Colonels lead the red calvary into Union looking for a repeat of last year

Records: Ryle (8-3), Dixie (7-4)

BGP Ranking: Ryle (#5 in 6A), Dixie (#9 in 6A)

Series History: Ryle leads 15-14 all-time

Table Setter: As we look ahead to the District 6 championship in Union, the number 'one' has been relevant. It's the winning margin for Ryle in the first meeting with four different players recording one touchdown each and a single extra point deciding the outcome. It's also the separation between the two schools in the all-time series. The Raiders and red Colonels can't seem to get away from one another lately. They've alternated wins in the last seven meetings, including a pair of games last year. Ryle blew out DH in the regular season before the Colonels emerged with the district crown in a playoff shootout. A shootout this year would come as a bit of a surprise considering the 13-12 score from the first game and the 12 and 15 points per game the Raiders and Colonels have allowed this season, respectively.

Logan Landers accounted for 191 of DH's 230 yards in game one, while the Raiders primarily relied on three ball carriers to grind out yards on the ground. Landers may be the player most capable of carrying his team to a win in this game, but DH's kicker, Noah Koenig, could prove just as valuable if we're in for another close one. He was absent the first time they met, forcing the Colonels to go for two after both touchdowns, which they failed to convert.

For Dixie, Rohlman and Hawkins didn’t play any offense against SK. They weren’t needed, but will likely be needed this week as they provide more options offensively. I still question why Edwards doesn’t see any offensive snaps. The kid has shown his explosiveness this year on special teams and defense.

Dixie cannot afford to blow time outs early in the half like they have this year. This is a game that it could come back and bite them in the rear.

And speaking of kickers, Dixie’s are back, but will Ryle have theirs? Will club trump football?

Always tough to beat a good team 2 times in the same year.  This game will come down to whether Ryle can contain Landers and not give up the big play.  They were successful in doing that the last game.  Ryle was able to run the ball consistently in the 2nd half of the game.  Both teams have very strong senior leadership but I think Ryle wins another close one.

Neither team’s seniors will want to hang the turf cleats up easily. I expect a last possession type of game with the usual 3 “suspects” determining the outcome when evenly matched teams without a clear LOS advantage hook up: turnovers, big plays, special teams. Slobberknocker guaranteed!
