Lawrence won in the past with very emotional style of smashmouth football. That straight forward formula is proven in high school. I see posts suggesting that change, similar to last year .... Certainly kids can rally around this direct style of football , is that going to happen as suggested ? LCHS should win the district but come playoff time you have to have something to hang your hat on ...

Burg another small Ohio school that plays football much better than it's size would indicate. Style is physical and straight forward. Will be good matchup for JC ... At the Burg they very seldom get beat , to win JC will have to be more physical and run better to the football as Burg will have good execution on both O and D .... As someone said no fat guys or give away positions , every kid will be schooled in football. Interesting game - good luck ...

West played a tough game - they are improving as a program ... I don't think they will ever beat the Devils consistently. Devils D needs to find toughness up the middle other than Jones ... Devils are always very good running to football but Belfry will bring it between the tackles .. We have to be able to shut down Belfry fullback. This was key to winning in 2005,2006 and the loss in 2004. Jones is in the middle for this toughness but needs help ... What are Wills or Timberlake doing ? Still young group they are improving and for sure can do it .. Devils O backfield starting to settle in ... Line still needs work but is improving ... Again have to be able to knock Belfry off the ball - wing t will not trick Belfry ... Intensity - Devils expect to win , but never come out in first series on D with real intensity. Not alot of hitting in practice but without a doubt the old coach has proven he knows what he is doing and it always works .. So first series problems are not a worry ...

Ashland has to go back to basics ... Hitting , Blocking , Tackling. These fundamentals have been missing since Vic left .... Ashland is flagship for this area they need to represent with a brand of hard nose football not the spread , shotgun or some other college ' want to be a player " attack .... Ironton is perfect example they will return as scheme is sound and Lutz knows how to execute. Ivan is another example not as hard nosed but has a basic proven scheme every year ... Ashland can do it has the kids and support just needs to committ to a new direction and go ...

Daily independent does great job with high school sports .... Has to sell newspapers ... In part a big reason I subscribe ...

Agree with 51 .. Ashland needs to go back to basics ... Football is hitting , blocking and tackling ... Shorten the play book to those basics and go right at people .. Ashland has been too smart for themselves for years , much better talent than results. Ashland , Greenup , Lawrence are sleeping giants that have to go back to basics .... Not preeching , as Ivan seemingly does it with an eye on execution of wing t .. And the rest takes care of itself ... But he has years and a calibrated eye for what will work and what will not .. Boyd gives Devils trouble when the Lions show up with good basics and take it right to the Devils .. Ps .. Russell JFL provides the strong basics

Seemingly not Ivan's nor admins style ... No pep rallies ,retired numbers or such ... No much looking back , more looking forward ....

Ashland should be a reload not rebuild. What basic is Ashland missing ? Blocking , Tackling , Hitting someone ? Football in NE Ky needs Ashland to be consistently successful .... Like it or not they are flagship for this area ... Same for Basketball ...

BC played good game ... they had a chance ... Hat's off to BC - kids played hard ... Devils have lot to work on - this game will be good for them in long run .. Certainly they have to show up and play , just not roll out the newspaper stories .... Stopping the run and developing an inside runner are priorities for this talented group ... Jones is a horse ...

I want Dawgs to have a day but "mini me" is heartbroke again - Red Army has to much in a close one .... Don't think Cirbin win was very big .. Belfry has a program and just keeps going ..

As I stated after first scrimmage ... 3a beware - Devils are loaded .... Devils still have many kinks to work out but are very talented and much improved since first scrimmage.. Sky is limit for this team if they continue to come along .... A loss or two would be a good thing for this group , to get them battle tested. Jones kid is horse , stands out physically ... He is looking to punish people.. This kid is intense far beyond high school and has played so much he makes no wrong steps... Lines still need work but they have good looking kids and many waiting ... Skills need work but they are blessed with many kids who can play .. Athletically this is team has the great promise , many kids flying to the football. If you want to beat the Devils you will have to run it right at them ... Too much speed for anything outside ... Looking forward to Mason ...

Corbin was better than the devils last year but didn't win , all summer they were best in 2a ... Now expectations can come to earth and football begin .. This loss will likely be a good thing for Corbin .. Did Red Army have any break away speed .. they missed that last year ? ...

These are similar to posts for dawgs from last year .... How does an intense coach and team start so slow ... Coal Grove was a must win , now Belfry is really a must win .... One good thing , Red Army really isn't pass oriented so will this dawg have it's day against pirates or will LCHS be on the way to mid season offense change again ?

Football in Boyd County took a spanking tonight .... Tomcats and Lions went down to a Pirate and another group of hungry Rams.

Great win for Raceland again - two years in a row is no fluke ... Ashland really needs to consider direction in this program .... If 5a cannot dominate 1A at the line of scrimmage soemthing is really wrong ... Always like Raceland staff and kids - no fluke ... Looking forward to matchup with Devils ...

No joy in Louisa ... What is it going to take to awake the sleeping dawg - will it happen this year ... Coal Grove is small Ohio school .... Just think if the Burg crosses the river .. They are also a small school but not as small as Coal Grove ...

Surely to goodness the Dawgs will beat Coal Grove ... Coal Grove is not an Ohio football power. Kids from Ohio are tough and play fundamental between the tackles football but Coal Grove is very small school. Big game for the program in Louisa ... a must win ...

Playing Ironton is a good thing for all involved... Devils get to test toughness and Tigers get a win close to home. Ironton with Lutz is hard for Devils to beat because they run exclusively right at the defense. Devils play defense to defend the entire field this doesn't work against this opponent who is willing to live and die by being more physical. Bottom line you can't beat Ironton if you can stop the fullback dive and other power plays... Again look forward to this series starting again ... If we had played Ironton during the 2004 season might have beat Belfry in the playoffs ... 2004 Belfry reminded me of Ironton .. Ironton beat Belfry in 2004 at the Tank , Belfry was in the game couldn't beat the stripes ....

Greenup needs to start with someone else ... Won't be a big score , Devils have lot to work out .... Good luck to both teams ....

Devils are solid .. 3A Beware .. No hype , not a homer ... Many challenges this year , but this staff is very good ...

Throwing the ball as a base offense in high school is very tough, takes as a minimum a gifted QB who can control the action with his feet ... ie best athlete on the field ... And if a passing base offense doesn't work .. you are toast , wonder how committed LCHS is to passing .. better work on knocking people off the ball that's Dawg football , the old timers like Roger N, Tater played ...

3A Beware the Devils looked real solid .... Offense, Jones gives Devils many possibities on offense and others like #13,#38 will be getting better all year. Jones is 5 yards per carry even on his shortest runs .. He'll drag people for 5. Defense full of kids who can again run ... So if you can't pound it between the tackles , you won't beat the Devils this year ... Jones brings enough toughness for the entire Defense .... Already predicting Devils travel to Belfry ... tougher regular season will help these Devils come playoff time ... Cabell scrimmage will tell more , but no doubt Devils are real solid and will improve each week .... Still shake out to do on both lines ... but coaches have alot to work with ..

Play in 5a will be much more physical .... Mercer have very good speed last year but were not very physical on lines , previous year 2005 Mercer was big but slow and again not very physical ..... Boyd beat us in 2005 by being more physical .... Good luck in 5a ... Ashland is 5a and they would have a much better chance of beating Russell if they lined up and ran it right at the Devils .....

:devil: Agree with Red about state game , Mercer was small and ran to the ball very well ... For any scheme to work have to move people off the ball - see State Game 2005 #36, #60 manhandled OC up front on powers .... Devils didn't have as much punch last year in trenches , need to regain this edge come playoff time ...
