REDDEVILMVP'06

I like Fleming's program. They have been a player in former 2a and the best team on our former regualr season schedule. We consistently beat Fleming at the lines of scrimmage. They need to coach up and get tougher ... Seem to have all the ingredients .... Good luck .. You folks should be in our new district , why you not was a bad decision by someone...

My heart hopes so , but I don't look for it .... Program , School System needs to get back on solid ground ....

Belfry needs to find a offensive spark .... Sound football team , well coached but missing a spark .... Maybe it's CAM ,,, Move back to Vipperman and bring back the Red Army ....

Boyd is back on track ... gone is the spread passing ,,, Boyd stays with hard nose running it with a fullback and Lions are back in business long term ...

How about BK's grandson ... BJ ( roger ) Nelson .. small but he could play .... Also glad to see my old buddy Merman "Tater" Mckenzie is remembered ...

Josh Wills .. Russell

Drew Mell , O line - small ,blocked with great fundamentals Micheal Horn "cover corner" ... Both these guys deserve consideration .... 2005 state champions ...

Ashland is a sleeping giant.....

Devils will reload , so many reps in last couple years , 2004 final 4 , 2005 State Champ and 2006 Runnerup ... Russell will have kids who have practiced over an extra year as seniors. This comes out of one if the not the best Middle School and JFL programs in the state .. Devils are positioned to reload due to the coaching staff for years to come ... QB is back #8 three year starter and very physical kid ... Ivan loves those Fullback-Quarterbacks.. If 13,38 or another kid or two steps up to handle the ball the Devils will be tough ... Wing T allows Ivan to interchange parts ... only need is a guard or two ... Devils will have two of the biggest tackles in the state , these boys need to hit the weights and the steps... On defense #8 will be a lock down linebacker , along with Big Seth and many other kids with size and speed looking for a chance to shine .. I look for kinks but come playoff time , the Devils will be tough again ... Actually really looking forward to this next year , just to see how the program and kids react ... Should be great fun ... Winning breeds winning in Russell Flatwoods ...

Many of us agree but it's history now .... and I can't afford any more therapy .. during the shock treatment I thought one of the ink spots looked like the Scotty ...

Looking Forward to traveling to Mason ... Much better trip than Powell , and even my old friends down at Estill ... Love those Engineers One thing we all can laugh at is the distance Fleming is traveling to avoid both of us ...

One of the backs for Mercer , likely had more speed and quickness but wasn't the football player that Kasey is ... Also Mr Wills ... that kid is a football player - warrior who impacted a team and a season as much or maybe more than Mr Clark. I wish in the state game we would have gone to Mr Wills in the backfield more as a blocker ...

Over the years , we've lost tougher games and ended up tougher for it ... Like Ivan said in 2005 these things "state championships" build over several years ... The program is in fine shape and well positioned to keep rolling .... Every kid in Russell - Flatwoods plays in the JFL ... Coaching staff knows the way to the carpet and what it takes ,,, What are the Devils going to have coming back .... Which Sophmores to be steps in , many of the kids over the last two years played as Sophmores .... Whose next to star in Friday Night Lights a top Red Devil Hill ... Certainly have some good players coming back .. 8 ,13 ,75,74, 38 ...

Yoter 00 i really dont see how u can say Mercer won it fair and square... they are twice the size of Russell with twice the kids to choose from... i dont care what any person thinks or says Russell had the state title stole from them because the KHSAA was asleep at the switch.... they should have told Mercer you can go ahead and consolidate but since you such a ungodly advantage over every team in 2A that you won't qualify for the playoffs... Mercer is lucky the Devils gave the game to them!! Russell was the best team in 2A no doubt about it... Mercer is about 5 in 3A

Josh Wills was robbed.... he was better than Honorable Mention... He was the heart and soul of the team this year... a great leader and even better player was left out because of a popularity contest

This whole thing just must be a popurlarity contest because Josh Wills senior linebacker from Russell deserved better than Honorable Mention... He was the heart and soul of a defense that held the 5A 2A state champions Mercer County to only 15 points... I am not quite sure how many tackles he had but it has to be somewhere up by the 100s... this kid is a better play than that should been at least 3rd team maybe 2nd

Devils will be fine for years to come .. Everything is in place to sustain winning on Red Devil Lane , both sides of the street ... Most high schools don't have the facilities the Russell JFL has ...

I know this is a homer type pick but who can go against Ivan "The Great" McGlone of Russell or even Mr. Haywood down in Pond Creek at Beflry

Corbin gave the Devils a fine account of themselves ... I sat on the Corbin side ( it's closer to the field - no track ) and was impressed. Corbin kids played hard the entire game and it payed off. I never thought the Devils were in trouble because they for the most part controlled lines of scrimmage even with Clark clearly hurting . But those kids from Corbin never backed down and would hit you .... I look for big things from redhounds next year ...

Looking forward to how far the "2a champion parade" takes Mercer in 5a next year ..... Playing up , oh I mean at the proper level ... should be interesting .... hint , speed of the game, size of the players will all be increased ... send me the tape ... :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: ps .. Mason needs to prepare for the Devils , not the other way around ...

We share the frustration of giving this game away .... The long standing winning program on Red Devil Lane ( from JFL to Varsity ) will be just fine ... I cannot be critical of this program which has all the elements to consistently produce winning results in the proper manner for our kids ... Last 10 years has been a heck of a ride for Devil fans ... let's keep it going .. This program and feeders - powered by countless players , quality coaches , supporting parents, school system and fans is on cruise control ... let's not hit the brake

The Ky High School Athletic Association is way to smart to let someone with two physically-seperate high schools manipulate the system.... Well , maybe they will be the second time ...   devils will be watching ...

No way Mercer is in top five for overall state ... Devils aren't either ... Mercer will get it's chance next year to play with the big boys ...

Devils were best 2A team beyond a shadow of a doubt ... 5A Mercer won 2A Championship Game .... Next year let's put Trinity in 2a to give the legit 2a schools someone else to shoot at ... Devils almost did it and really gave it away , to the 5a power .. who next year will have to buy a ticket to get into the finals or semi finals .. we will be watching and posting ...

I agree .. Devils have a program ... that means they compete at a very high level consistently... Not one year wonders .... Devils will be fine because , this program is sound .... Kids , coaches and community provide everything for Devils to compete year after year ... JFL is Russell/Flatwoods is as good as any in the state ... They have better facilities amd support than most varsity programs in our district .. Devils will reload next year , work out the kinks and be ready for another playoff run ... How many in 3a can say that ? Can Mercer going into 5a ?
