  1. The team really did bond... like greybeard said the decorating of the helmets reallyshowed how much a group of kids came together in one week.... the East coaches did a great job of keeping the ball on the ground and gutting the west and wearing them down through the course of the game... old school football wins again!!!
  2. I know a lot of people from Lawrence County but I dont know much about the Dawgs but I am always pulling for them cept if they play Russell.... I hope Billy Goldsmith can return them back to the Glory Days this year like the teams he had of the 90s
  3. What I mean is the Devils lose some seniors that have been playing and starting since they were sophomores such as Drew Mell, Tim Smith, Tommy Brown, Derek Timberlake, Michael Horn. There are a lot of holes to fill on the line onboth sides of the ball. It takes quit a bit of time for a line to gell. The onyl seniors that have seen serious playing time since they were sophomores are Kasey Clark and Sizemore. Josh Wills saw some action late in his sophomore year.
  4. I respected coach Lutz and loved his smashmouth playing style and the Iroton faithful and the IRONTON FLAGS will miss him greatly. He coached football they way it was suppose to be hard nose he ran the ball right down your throat and if you were not lucky ran you into the ground as well..... but on the other hand the talk has already started that this is the area's chance to get Ironton back for some awfully questionable calls over there years at Tank's Memorial over the years.... everybody who has ever played Ironton as a visitor knows what I am talking about
  5. I dont really know much about 4A football mainly a 2A guy but I saw Henry Clay's tape of Belfry and they ran around Belfry like it was nothing. I believe one day Henry Clay will win it again but that is the only lexington school with the talent that I have seen to match up with the Louisville Schools
  6. No way! Look at Russell's coach Ivan Mcglone he has been to 9 semi-final games and has only won 2 of them. It takes a lot of luck to win state titles unless you jsut have an overly dominent team but 2A is so competitive there is never really that one dominent team. I think if Mercer is going to win 2A that this is there year to do it because Russell will reload but they will not have the experience they did last year as most of their seniors this year did not see much action late in the year. I believe Mercer County has what it takes but Russell has had what it has took for the past 5 years and only won it once mainly due to some horridis luck. Maybe this year the stars will align for Marty Jaggers and Mercer County
  7. They did have Russell on the ropes last year.... i was there and lived it. That was the best game I had ever been apart of.... does anybody know where Newport's wide reciever signed he was number 32? he made that big catch late in the game leading Newport fans to think the game was over but you never count out the DEVILS!
  8. I agree with Mike Check's top 10 of 2A.... I do believe the consolidation has cause Mercer to be bumped up a few spots... but whoever comes out of region 3 will have a tuff time going down into the mountains and beating whatever team wins that region
  9. Justin Potter from Russell is someone you have to consider if you are talking about the best pitchers in the state. Russell baseball program has not been the best over the year's but this year Potter has lead the Devils to 20 win season the first since i can remember and potentional shot at possibly dethroaning Boyd County as the 16 region champs. The kid has battled through alot and has never gotten all the credit he has deserved.
  10. Should be a dandy one next year in Putnam Stadium when the Devils come to town can't wait for that one.
  11. Damron is a great choice for KCU in my mind. Their is a lot of talent that gets overlooked every year in eastern kentucky and Damron primed to suck up all of the overlooked players. It will take a few years but I think KCU will become a contender in whatever division they play in.
  12. It will be a good game when the Devils rematch the Scotties for the regional title cause in my mind they both are locks to be there. Last year's game was alot closer than the score indicated. Maybe this is the year Scotties could finally notch a win against the Devils, the Devils lead the series 3-0, all three games have come in the playoffs.
  13. It's Devil Country where I come from. The Russell Red Devils as usual will be reloaded and ready to make another title run as they have in the past. The Red Devils are the 4 time defending District 6 Region 3 champs, the 2 time defending region 3 champs, and defending class AA state champs. The Red Devils will put their hopes and dreams of another state title on back of Kasey Clark who had over 1500 yards last year and had 44 touchdowns. Kasey is serious candidate for Mr. Football and is a touchdown scoring machine. The Devils lose some key seniors though Tommy Brown, Derek Timberlake, Michael Horn(All-State), Timmy Smith, Drew Mell (All-State),and Chad Edwards who gave them great speed on the corner. Tyler Jones will be filling in for Tommy Brown at quaterback. Jones filled in for Brown some last year, so he has some experience but he will have to improve on his passing, a category in which Brown excelled at some much he was double threat back there he could run as good as any back in 2A but could also throw the ball, probably one of the best passers to come through Russell in the past 15 years. Who will anchor the offensive line will be a question for the Devils. Last year the line was anchored by All-Stater Drew Mell and Tim Smith. The Devils return guard Josh Wills, who is also an outstanding run stopping force in the middle of the defense at linebacker, and Center Ethan Gullet who may very well be that anchor and move out tackle. Jordan Parks is another one who could be that anchor that they run behind for the tuff yard, just as Mell was. The backfield will be lead by none other than Kasey Clark, who was a touchdown scoring machine last year by scoring 44 td's. Nick Lewis will be the change of pace back, along side maybe Aaron Beekman or Daryl Wells in the backfeild playing fullback for the devils. The fullback position is one I am interested to see who fills because '22 is one of Coach McGlone's favorite plays to call. The defense will be lead by Senior Linebacker Josh Wills. The devils lose Derek Timberlake who was a tackling machine in the middle tallying 130 tackles last season. Andrew Bayes or Bryson Perry are the leading candidates to join Wills on the inside. The Devils lose 4 starters along the defensive line, so there are major holes to fill their, it will be interesting to see who the Devils put their, I dont even have an idea who will be their. Coach Gary Morris is the defensive mastermind for the Devils, he devised the skeam last year that held Owensboro Catholic to only 14 points in the state finals, when they averaged over 35 a game. His defensive skeams and great intensity has been the fuel for the Devils defensive fire over the last 5 years. The secondary loses argueably probably the best shutdown corner to ever come through Russell All- Stater Michael Horn, who had 5 interceptions which is not a lot but the Devils play teams who pass the ball never so 5 interceptions is equivalent to about 15 anywhere else. On the bright side though they return their 2 safeties Kasey Clark and Jacob Sizemore. Well that about covers it!! Everyone in 2A should espect the Devils to be right there around playoff time in the hunt for all the marbles. Russell will have the target on its back though and will get everyone's best shot, it will be interesting to see how a senior oriented team handles this. I espect the Devils to be their around Final Four time, but the state title again will run through Belfry as the Devils have to go back Belfry if they want to successfully defend their state championship
  14. Looks like Mercer County will have a date with Russell for the regional title come this fall. Who does Mercer having coming back that made a big impact last year or could make a big impact this year?? How many seniors do they have?
