Team Outlooks

Featured Replies

I was wanting to hear about the teams that arent talked about so much on here. I want to hear about how Owen County is looking, Grant Co., Pendelton since the coach left, Trimble, Dayton. Schools to that nature all around the state.

Thanks

Pendleton Co.s young men are working hard in the weight room a few have been to a couple of combines. I know 4 of them went to the tri-state combine. I heard their center who will be a junior next football season benched pressed 185lbs. 25 times. Even with their coaching situation still up in the air these young men will stay focused and play hard for whoever will be the coach.

We follow the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets here. Jim Black looks to be poised to bring the Jackets back to playoff contention after a re-building year in '05.

Senior Quarterback Thomas Frazier has a major league arm and in the new offense could put up huge numbers. Chase Hamlin,(District Reciever of the year, SEKC Reciever of the year), who led class A in receiving last year returns with expectations of another big year. Williamsburg had difficulties last year with having only one real threat at reciever (Hamlin), but some changes in personnel on offense in the spring showed the potential for some others to become theats. Aaron Root (SEKC Linebacker of the year, 1st Team All District) moves from center, where though undersized (5'9", 185 lbs.) he led the Jacket line, to full back where he showed excellent hands out of the backfield, as well as a nice burst of speed and a nasty attitude when the ball was in his hands. Will Moses, a rising junior, is cat quick, and showed much improvement in catching the ball. A bevy of young, fast receivers also demonstrated potential in the spring. Look for nice things out of Aaron Brock, Dusty Brown, Daniel Pettit, and Alex Patrick. The O-Line will be anchored by vetean AJ Jusino (2nd team district and SEKC). Elias Abner should step up at center, and Soph. Tyler Rollins(Honorable mention all district as a freshman), has the potential to be a beast.

Where I look to see the Jackets really improve is on the defensive side of the ball. The defense will be led by Aaron Root who is a tremendous natural linebacker. He had 164 tackles in 8 games before a knee injury last year and was voted SEKC linebacker of the year. His knee is now healthy and the kid has been a beast in the weight room. He has doubled as catcher on the baseball team showing no signs of knee trouble. AJ Jusino, whether with his hand down, or possibly at linebacker is a big play guy with outstanding quickness. Hamlin will be at a DB slot and has good ball hawing abilities. I expect to see Black put 11 on this side of the ball who can flat out run.

Lynn Camp and Somerset should be picked to be frontrunners in the district, but don't be surprised to see Williamsburg in the thick of things at the end. The Jackets have both at home this year.

Overall, look for an exciting year from Jim Black's charges at Williamsburg.

I will tell you this much watch out for Cumberland in district 7! I think that everyone is down enough and I think that we have the possiblity having one of the best athletic groups that has came through in while! I don't want to name kids but look for an offensive explosion!!!

It's Devil Country where I come from. The Russell Red Devils as usual will be reloaded and ready to make another title run as they have in the past. The Red Devils are the 4 time defending District 6 Region 3 champs, the 2 time defending region 3 champs, and defending class AA state champs. The Red Devils will put their hopes and dreams of another state title on back of Kasey Clark who had over 1500 yards last year and had 44 touchdowns. Kasey is serious candidate for Mr. Football and is a touchdown scoring machine. The Devils lose some key seniors though Tommy Brown, Derek Timberlake, Michael Horn(All-State), Timmy Smith, Drew Mell (All-State),and Chad Edwards who gave them great speed on the corner. Tyler Jones will be filling in for Tommy Brown at quaterback. Jones filled in for Brown some last year, so he has some experience but he will have to improve on his passing, a category in which Brown excelled at some much he was double threat back there he could run as good as any back in 2A but could also throw the ball, probably one of the best passers to come through Russell in the past 15 years.

Who will anchor the offensive line will be a question for the Devils. Last year the line was anchored by All-Stater Drew Mell and Tim Smith. The Devils return guard Josh Wills, who is also an outstanding run stopping force in the middle of the defense at linebacker, and Center Ethan Gullet who may very well be that anchor and move out tackle. Jordan Parks is another one who could be that anchor that they run behind for the tuff yard, just as Mell was.

The backfield will be lead by none other than Kasey Clark, who was a touchdown scoring machine last year by scoring 44 td's. Nick Lewis will be the change of pace back, along side maybe Aaron Beekman or Daryl Wells in the backfeild playing fullback for the devils. The fullback position is one I am interested to see who fills because '22 is one of Coach McGlone's favorite plays to call.

The defense will be lead by Senior Linebacker Josh Wills. The devils lose Derek Timberlake who was a tackling machine in the middle tallying 130 tackles last season. Andrew Bayes or Bryson Perry are the leading candidates to join Wills on the inside. The Devils lose 4 starters along the defensive line, so there are major holes to fill their, it will be interesting to see who the Devils put their, I dont even have an idea who will be their. Coach Gary Morris is the defensive mastermind for the Devils, he devised the skeam last year that held Owensboro Catholic to only 14 points in the state finals, when they averaged over 35 a game. His defensive skeams and great intensity has been the fuel for the Devils defensive fire over the last 5 years. The secondary loses argueably probably the best shutdown corner to ever come through Russell All- Stater Michael Horn, who had 5 interceptions which is not a lot but the Devils play teams who pass the ball never so 5 interceptions is equivalent to about 15 anywhere else. On the bright side though they return their 2 safeties Kasey Clark and Jacob Sizemore.

Well that about covers it!! Everyone in 2A should espect the Devils to be right there around playoff time in the hunt for all the marbles. Russell will have the target on its back though and will get everyone's best shot, it will be interesting to see how a senior oriented team handles this. I espect the Devils to be their around Final Four time, but the state title again will run through Belfry as the Devils have to go back Belfry if they want to successfully defend their state championship
