2007 district for Russell
I think the series with Ironton should be reopened... so what if u get a couple of cheap calls against it will help make our teams harder nosed and playing basically 14 or 15 how many officials they have on 11 will help our teams learn how to play through adversity and a few bad breaks...I think for the second game we should make a road trip to P-burg or some team in the mountains that we might see later down the road in the playoffs

Sheldon Clark vs Lawrence County
Lawrence Co is hurting but they will hit you .... I think the dawgs have enough ... watch the Carter kid ... I expect a big year

My 3-A Pre-Season Top 10
Ashland should be top 10 every year. Ashland still has an industrial and construction trades base. This combined with alot of people with many resources should produce endless talent. Ashland needs to recommit up and down all levels to tough minded , hard nose football. Ashland could become an "Ironton" if they will focus blocking , tackling and runnin it right at someone.

Statewide Top 15!!
I watched all the football finals last year including our victory over OC. For a statewide top 15 , no teams from 2a and likely very few from 3a would be on this list including Belfry or Russell. The best kids on a 2a team can play at any level. But top to bottom the larger schools play better football , less weak players.

Class 2A, Region 3 Poll
Morgan is getting better every year and one day might beat the Devils ( but not this year). Fleming has had the talent and the size ,they just cannot figure out the Devils . Newport and Mercer if present coaching staffs remain at both schools can be scary .... The rest in this region are cup cakes .. Let's start playing , good luck to all ....

My 2-A Pre-Season Top 10
Greenup is a sleeping giant.... If the new coach can get the kids out , Greenup will be back. They just need some consistency in the program and a physical scheme. If present staff stays and can get the kids out , I look for Greenup to compete with the Devils in a few years - but not this year , no way. Greenup JFL struggles so they have to be rock solid at the High school level to raise level of play ...

My 2-A Pre-Season Top 10
Certainly Devils title to win. Devils have to replace clutch passing game ( Tommy Brown was a playmaker) and physical play of very experienced small senior class -almost all played both ways. The problem for the Devils this year is once they play the big three ( first three games) , it's cupcake city where you really cannot judge improvement or performance. Devils will go in the playoffs , as far as they can find ways to get Kasey , Jacob and others the ball outside the confines of the base Wing T.... One final word , Mercer , Newport, and Belfry (Physical Play) could have beat the Devils and would have certainly beat anyone from the West ... Bring on the season ...

Ashland Football
Ashland becomes a force when they commit to the run , period. Last years Russell game would have been a blowout if Ashland doesn't hit a few big busted plays. In high school if you can't run , you can't win. That's all the hint you get ... Seems to me , right now based upon last several seasons Ashland is committed to being a Hollywood Passing Team .... Sells newspapers but doesn't win games , especially playoff games .... Good Luck except when the Devils come in winging it .... ps winging it isn't a passing formation ...

Ashland Football
Ashland needs to find a running game thios year if they expect to do anything in playoff times and they need to tuffin up on the line.... Rockastle beat them because theyt are more physical than them...

Class 2A, Region 4 Poll
I think Belfry Boy is right... this will be the third year in a row the Devils and Pirates me for to see who walks on the carpet for the east.... I cant wait for the game either big time rubber match

Where are all the Russell Fans:
What I wanna know is what in the world happen to us at our own passing scrimmage not even making it to the finals???

Work begins tomorrow on Turf at Newport...
Glad to see Newport's Field get some renovation. These old facilities are priceless reminders of proud past for many river towns , like Portsmouth's Spartan Staduim and Ironton's Tank Stadium. I wonder with the turf , if those 'gas' post sideline heaters will be maintained. I have never seen that version of heater on any sideline before. Last question , did Newport's field ever have concrete stands on the visitor side ?

Mercer's new associate coach, Donald Smith
Everything at Mercer is news ... at that's good , I like reading it. Football starts and ends with a consistent scheme , execution and most importantly kids - with ability - who have a full understanding so they can execute. In my opinion all these changes at Mercer will take time (likely more than one season) to gel. Certainly this is the challenge for the combined efforts of new coaches and players. Good luck Mercer , your size and numbers were wearing us down late in the game last year.... that's all the clue you get for this season ....

Scott Grizzle, is he the best kept secret in the state?
Scott is a great athelte but considering Raceland throughs the ball every play... he really didnt not impress me much when Raceland played Ashland last year... it was almost like he disappeared against the better competition of a AAA school

16th Region 2006-07 Outlook
Stripes 3 w/e ypu are smoking Id like to have some of it cause that is just straight up nuts.... Elliot could not even beat Russell last year and Russell has the same team coming back.... My pick is Russell and everybody else in the 16th Region is playing for 2nd
-
Class 2A, Region 4 Poll
IMO its Belfry until Belfry is dethroned I always have to pick them cause they will be well coached and as usual as hard nose team that will never give up.... Also personally I think Belfry is one of the toughest places in the state to go in and win at

Wide Recievers to watch out for in '06
Jacob Sizemore of Russell came up with some key receptions for the Devils last year and being tall as he is will be a nice target for Tyler Jones this year
-
Mercer v LCA Best 1st game in the state?
I dont think so LCA is a 1A school i believe Mercer from watching them last year will just bully LCA and grind them into the ground...Mercer wins easy because of their size and strength which a 1A school will lack
-
Mercer County Titans
This is Mercers big chance IMO if they are doing it this is the year to do it cuase they will have an advantage over any team they face because of their extremely large numbers for a 2A school

KY/Tennessee All-Star Game Friday
The red devils deserved to have one player on that team
-
KY/Tennessee All-Star Game Friday
It would have been nice if at least one player from all the state championship teams was on this all-star team... seeing that Russells was soarly LOOKED OVER having two all staters on the team!

Top EKY RBs
Kasey Clark in my opinion is the best in EKY... but I am sure another sleeper will arise from the Mountain area.....

Where are all the Russell Fans:
I ll tell you something I am so excited for this year i cannot wait for the first game against greenup...I think the Devils have a excellent chance of repeating although they have a lot of holes to fill in the middle of that defense.... remember offense wins games DEFENSE wins state titles.... the state title runs through Mercer County in my opinion mercer and russell are 1 and 2 in AA.....but Mercer has to come to the Devils lair... the Red Devils are something like 23 in a row at home.... GO DEVILS!!!!
