2007 district for Russell

Featured Replies

Looks like we can pick up 2 games for 2007 season. We will still play:

1. Greenup Co. 4A

2. Boyd Co. 4A

3. Ashland 5A

4. East Carter

5. West Carter

6. Fleming Co.

7. Lewis Co.

8. Mason Co. (new alignment team brought in)

9. OPEN

10. OPEN

IRONTON would be a good pick up.

WAYNE, WV would be another good pick up.

Not bad. You could also get a game from Wheelersburg (we play them in Fresh. and JV already) and a good friend of mine who played for Fairview said they would love the chance to play Russell.

Raceland would be really cool as well. I've heard they feel they are going to have some really good teams for the next few years.

I think the series with Ironton should be reopened... so what if u get a couple of cheap calls against it will help make our teams harder nosed and playing basically 14 or 15 how many officials they have on 11 will help our teams learn how to play through adversity and a few bad breaks...I think for the second game we should make a road trip to P-burg or some team in the mountains that we might see later down the road in the playoffs

I would like to see Russell and Lawrence County open their rivalry back up.

Please, playing Raceland or Fairview would be a complete waste of time...nothing really to be gained from it IMO. I can't believe we still have 5 district games...what a joke. Just once I'd love to see the Devils get the benefit of being in the smaller district and being able to pick up an extra game.

Personally, I say keep Ashland and Boyd but only if the Lions can maintain their program and continue to improve. Pick up a replacement for Greenup until those people get their act together. Add any combination of Wheelersburg, Ironton, Lawrence County and Wayne. Be tough competition and get you ready for the playoffs.

ONE six team district in 3A and of course Russell is in it...

Oh, I don't know. Why does the Univ. of Texas schedule games with "N. Texas". A team that they beat 65-0 two years ago, and who were a total of 2-9 last year? Maybe, to help N. Texas' program? I think that a game with Raceland and/or Fairview could help THEIR program out. Plus it would be a definite 'big' gate for those 2 teams

Very good point, its not always about the team that is going to win by 50! :thumb:

You and me both. I think that is a great game for both programs to prepare for the playoffs.

And why should Russell be interested in 'helping out' those two programs????? Again I say that, from Russell's perspective, scheduling either of those programs right now would be a total waste of time. The Red Devils get enough opportunities to get the back ups some playing time once they hit the district portion of their season...no need to further water down the schedule, IMO.

Actually, I would not see it as a total waste of time. Especially, Raceland. The two schools are 4 miles apart. Raceland has had an air attack over the last 7 or 8 years that would help Russell see some good wide open offense and actually help Russell prepare for a run deep in the playoffs.

Plus the biggest advantage of playing Raceland obviously, would be $$$$$$. There would be a whole lot more people at a Russell/Raceland Game than what makes the long trip from Powell County or Estill or other schools.

Raceland and Russell are in the same district in the other sports. Let them play. Raceland won't fare any worse than Greenup County has recently.

I agree in the renewal of the old Rams / Red Devils rivalry might be very profitable $$$$ wise. I know for a fact that B.T. Ross when he was at Raceland done everything in his power to play Russell, McGlone and the Russell A.D. would not play........Period. That may have been one factor that brought about the Rams/Tomcats series. Besides that game may come to be anyway bc I have been hearing rumors (right now that's all they are) of Raceland moving to AA in the near future.

Excuse me ?????   Imo Ironton would not need the help of any officials to gain a win over Russell. Russell could gain the value of playing tougher competition by playing Ironton, that is for sure and it would help them in the playoffs by having played tougher opponets than they do now. But please do nor go off crying  about the officiating. That is a joke.
