Yes, they would...sorry if you take it as arrogant, just being realistic. While Raceland does have a nice little tradition, but looking at JV results the last few years and knowing a bit about both programs it wouldn't be close.

Not taking it as arrogant. You have a right to your opinion just as I. Being a fan you should feel strong & confident about your team. It is hard to judge a program on the results from a JV game. While it does give a measuring stick to see what the future may bring it is not a true measure of talent. Some kids develope later than others some not until they reach Jr. or SR. seasons.I also know a little about both programs. As I said before Russell has an outstanding tradition & I respect their program but I think Raceland has a little respect also and our tradition is also felt throughout the community.To say the game would not be close is not a fair statement. Russell is the better team, but anyone can beat you on any given night. Good luck to your Devils this upcoming season.

I cetainly agree with you on the last few years 06, there is no doubt that Russell has had an outstanding program through the years, as a matter of fact I have complemented them on their tradition more than once. My problem with some, not all is that they seem to think that they are the only program around. I also believe that Raceland would had held an edge in the 80's in series over Russell.

 

It would have been much closer in the 80s with Russell having the edge through most of the decade. The early 80s Russell would have dominated. IMO

Looks like we can pick up 2 games for 2007 season. We will still play:

1. Greenup Co. 4A

2. Boyd Co. 4A

3. Ashland 5A

4. East Carter

5. West Carter

6. Fleming Co.

7. Lewis Co.

8. Mason Co. (new alignment team brought in)

IRONTON would be a good pick up.

WAYNE, WV would be another good pick up.

I would think Spring Valley WV and Cabell Midland WV would be strong candidates to fill the open dates.

Looking at it from a purely financial standpoint, I doubt that many matchups would garner as much GREEN as a Raceland vs. Russell game.

 

Spring Valley, Wayne, Cabell Midland, Huntington VA Tigers? Does anyone on this side of the river have any interest in these teams? No disrespect to all my friends from WV. All these teams may be Cincy Moeller for all I know, but WV Football doesnt seem to match anything Ohio has to offer and maybe my Bluegrass Goggles are on but I think Kentucky football is better. Tough to compare since WV has consolidated so much in the last 20 years. I follow a lot of football and hear very few people in this state mention any interest in Mountaineer High School Football, those that live in WV I'm sure have a different view. Plenty of Marshall fans around, but they dont speak about WVHS Football either.

I think we all know why Russell doesn't play the Ramblers. Not to stir up things but it goes along ways back. And I will leave it at that. Russell and Raceland was AT ONE TIME good rivalry games. But it will not happen under Ivan's era. Russell would gain nothing by playing a 1-A school. Yes Raceland has a good program and long tradition. But Russell has too. I would like to see Ironton, Wheelersburg, West Portsmouth , Portsmouth on the schedule. :fire: :fire: :fire:

Don't look at the record in those years. Look at the strength of the schedule. Russell wins hands down in the 80's and beyond. Gotta give you credit for have Rambler pride.
