  1. Make that 3 for 3. I also agree with McPapa. Size across both lines (esp. offense) has to be addressed.
  2. Sad to say, but from knowing Mr. Foster he probably won't do any of the above suggestions already made (i.e. - public apology, editorial apology, personal apology, step down, etc)
  3. Your exactly right LMB. That comment is not just inappropriate it is down right mean-spirited and just plain wrong. IMO the principal should make a public apology in the newspaper and in person to the Fuller player for making that statement. While M. Fuller may not have been O.J. Mayo, he was a decent basketball player from what I can remember. Shame on you Mr. Foster
  4. Hey gang, can you make it 4 of us. I may not be as active as I used to be, since my 'dog' is no longer part of the fight, but I still enjoy going to all the home games and watching each team. My son and I have been comparing notes about this game. He has seen Ashland this year, but hasn't gotten to his old stomping grounds to watch Russell yet. I have seen Russell but not Ashland. So after comparing, I believe that even though the game is at the HANK, I think Ashland has too many weapons this year to for Russell to try and stop. I do think it will be a good game until thru the 3rd quarter, but I think Ashland will make a play sometime during the 4th to eek out a victory. The ones that know me on BGP, know that I have never tried to post a score, so I won't start now, but I do not believe it will be a blowout. And I would not be shocked if Russell came away with a victory, because I believe unlike last years well documented morale problems, this team does show more heart and fight in them. Hope to post some more as the season wears on.
  5. We will add this young man and his family to our prayer list at our church. May God bless the entire Meenach family.
  6. Okay, lets try this again!! I'm looking for anyone that can give us information about what Russell Fans can expect from this years squad?
  7. Speaking of a little maroon, I have not heard anything about this upcoming Russell Team on this site. I started a thread about a month ago and it died a slow death with no posts. Not having a dog in the fight anymore has left me a little behind on current players and starter. I am going to start another one. Maybe someone reading this thread can also shed some light on the Maroon/Gold sqaud. Thanks. --PS-- Also being a GC alum, I am also excited about what is happening with the squad. Hopefully this new coach can rekindle that excitement we had back in 78 when Dunaway, Greenslate and others were roaming the sidelines and bringing home lots of victories. (Of course excluding the Russell Game!!)
  8. :thumb:Was getting ready to say the same thing. When I watched the video and then saw the "action photos" from the Russell / Mason Game it was literally night/day from any of the other fields that Russell has traveled to. Mason has top notch facilities. Would pay for the lighting committee or whoever to go check them out:thumb: Also, just a suggestion, but maybe a little tweaking of the sound system would be a help to the visitor's side. Still very hard to hear. It looks like you have enough "speakers", maybe it's just needs someone to come re-work the sound board. Maybe add a little 'power' to the amp. Being a GCHS alum, I am also excited at what is being done. Of course I can only cheer for GC for 9 of the 10 Games
  9. Scott G. excellent game tonight was also accomplished with the fact that he is playing with a heavy heart. His grandmother (who has been a teacher at Rose Hill for many years) is very sick and has been in the hospital since a couple of days before Christmas. She had open heart surgery to replace two valves and has had complications in trying to come off the ventilator and is still in the ICU. I'm sure Scott and the family would appreciate all of us BGP'ers prayers!!
  10. Adam Foster (Russell Class of 08') lives in Lloyd. He transferred to Russell in the 5th grade when mom started teaching in Russell. He continued to play in the Greenup JFL his 5th and 6th grade year because of his loyalty to his coach Donnie Rowe. He switched to the Russell JFL in the 7th grade.
  11. No not at all, the call was absolutely right. It was just unfortunate. The player was on his way out of bounds to try and stop the clock and Foster and Jones had him wrapped up, when one of our younger guys came in to try and help out and grabbed hold of the mask. Of course, I personally disagreed with the decision to do the squib kick and give SK the ball on their 40. But it was one of the most exciting games last year, if you like offense.
  12. No offense, but I dont think the same coach having 300 wins, two state championships, and almost a 50 game home winning streak running those 4 plays is working more than just "most" of the time. I believe that some years we have players that can "execute" those "4" plays better than other years. Maybe this year is one of those years. But still a 6-1 mark right now is pretty good.
  13. I see alot of low and close score. Simon Kenton likes to score alot of points, if Russell is going to compete with them they are going to have to light up the scoreboard as well. If I was playing for Russell I would be as bitter as chalk, after having them beat last year and getting a penalty at the end that moved them into field goal range. In my opinion Russell won that game last year. If Russell comes out and play some Russell football ( which I havent seen them do a whole lot this year), and get gritty and smash mouths, then I think they will come away with this one.
  14. Russell has a pretty good ball club, but you have to watch those winless teams because they are hungry and have something to fight for. Like its been said to win at the "Hank" is no easy tasks, but LC will bring the fight to Russell we will see if Russell is ready bring the bigger stick.
  15. From what you and Watusi have told me, you are exactly right. I posted this earlier Now that's livin' right!!! Especially since Belfry has made it to round 4 for the past 5 years (2003-2007)
  16. I also agree. I know our home attendance was down that first week of the playoffs (which shouldn't happen during playoff time), the last two years when we played our own districts 4 seed. I guess it was hard for our fans to come out and see a team we had already played once and beat by a large margin. This way with cross-bracketing even though a 1 is still playing a 4, there is the "X" factor of knowing little or nothing about the opponent except for what you read here or in the press clippings. I think this will definetly put more fans in the stands during the 1st two weeks of the playoffs.
  17. If you remember in the week 3 game it absolutely poured at Belfry. The field of course sat next to a hillside and all the rain + the runoff from the hill tore the field up. Belfry did a good job in the week between 3 and 4 getting the field in decent shape, but I remember between 10 yd line and endzone on the hillside end of the field was nothing but stomped down mud. If memory serves me right, there was even rumors that week that they would move the game to the new field. But as I get older my memory is not as good as it once was, so does anybody else remember that end of the field being bad?
  18. Thank you 3W. That was what I was seeing too. It was really very confusing, which is what prompted me starting this thread in the first place. Thank goodness we got posters like Ram and Watusi to keep it straight
  19. Okay, I think I get it. But I wish they would stop messing with the playoff formats and class systems. If Russell and Belfry happen to both make it to round 4 it would be the 4th time in 5 years that Belfry gets to host that 4th round game. 2004 Russell at Belfry (mud bowl - last game at old Viperman) 2005 Belfry at Russell 2006 Russell at Belfry 2007 Breathitt at Belfry 2008 at Belfry
  20. I have looked at that link several times. According to the KHSAA website under where we look at scores it says that we are in region 1, but for district 7 to play district 8 the way I read that link we should be in region 4. Or is there a mistake on the Scoreboard link? Or am I reading that breakdown sheet wrong?
  21. I am having problems understanding the new cross-bracket playoff system. I have read several old posts and have looked at the KHSAA site, but when I click on links to the playoff format, it tells me they no longer exist or are broken. anyway, someone please help me understand this years playoff format? I know that we are no longer playing teams from our own district in the 1st two rounds this year and will be cross-bracketing from round 1. So does that mean we will not have a so-called district champion this year? I know that Russell is in 3A Region 1 district 7. So who will they cross-braket with this year in the 1st 2 rounds? If they are the top seed does that still give them the 1st two rounds at home? I guess I could go on, so I'll just make it easy. If someone could please layout the format for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much in advance
  22. Thanks. I appreciate it. If anybody finds out about the time let me know. I do not have Time Warner, so I will have to get someone to tape it for me.
  23. Does anyone know if the game will be televised like last years? With my "favorite devil" now off to college playing Football he will miss the game. Would love to tape it for him and send it to him to watch next week. Thanks in advance!!
  24. Anyone know why there was no player from Ashland there? I know that M. Thomas was participating in the other all-star game, but there had to be some more chosen.
  25. My son is playing in the event and he has not heard any difference in the schedule. they are to practice at 6 sun thru thur and play on friday the 13th at 7:30
