I know there has been a lot of talk about the politics and the division among the areas that make up the Greenup Co. school system. Let me pose this question. How many athletes that live/lived in the Greenup County school district have gone to a neighboring school in the past 5 years?

It is always bad to loose talent to another school but it does happen. Is there a solution - no I don't think so.

Now did all of these young men still live (including Carter) in Greenup's district when they attended the other schools? What I was trying to get at, is how many kids that lived in the Wurtland area went to Raceland or Russell because of the perceived South Shore bias by some people.

What your asking is going to be very hard to answer. Most of the transfers now happen before high school, and many of those student/athletes started at Raceland because their parents were from Greenup County.

 

I live on Route 1, well into the Greenup County district, there are 16 students on Route 1 that attend Raceland. They did not transfer, I am pretty sure they all started at Raceland.

 

There are students at Raceland from Route 7, Route 2, Ulen Branch, Coal Branch, and from all over Wurtland. We have students from Lloyd and from Boyd County as well, several from the Summitt area.

 

Most of the out of district students at Raceland begin before high school, but the most noticed ones are entering in high school

Last I heard, Carter lived in Greenup then moved to Ashland. Beach, Troxler, and Jackson still live in Greenup.

Adam Foster (Russell Class of 08') lives in Lloyd. He transferred to Russell in the 5th grade when mom started teaching in Russell. He continued to play in the Greenup JFL his 5th and 6th grade year because of his loyalty to his coach Donnie Rowe. He switched to the Russell JFL in the 7th grade.

Joe Stephens went to Raceland 07 grad.

There are several East Carter students over the years that have lived in Greenup Co. It is closer for some on Route 1 to go to East instead of Greenup Co.

You can add Austin Blankenship, Jessie White, and Dalton Terry . Yes they all still live in Greenup except Jessie White. I know for a fact that Austins parents moved him to Raceland right after basketball season was over at Wurtland last year simply because of all the politics and they are big sports fans.

I for one cant see how any kid who has grown up in a school system and played sports all the way through, could not have enough emotion and school pride to want to play for that school in high school. I cant imagine helping a rival team beat the team that i had grown up wanting to play for and looking up to. That shows me that these parents and kids have no loyalty. Instead of trying to be part of the solution to a problem, they become part of the problem. I would rather lose with my friends and teammates that I have been with all my life, than win with a team that I have no ties to. Not to mention helping defeat the friends and teammates I used to play with. I'll never understand, and please guys please dont insult us all on here with an "academics" post. I think we all no that these transfers are usually some of the top atheletes in the school. I'm sure that education is not the top priority for these parents.
