I'm thinking the Conner/Highlands game will be evenly matched. CovCath should dominate Dixie. I do look for Lloyd to win against Holy Cross. Don't be surprised if Newport pulls off a win against Ryle.

While I fully expect this to be a NewCath victory — possibly even with a running clock in the second half — I can’t help but wonder how the Newport–NewCath game would have played out if #4 Barber had been in the lineup. I'm not sure why he didn't play (possibly an injury?), but that’s a question that could be answered if these teams meet again in the playoffs. NewCath’s front line has really come along, and it's made a noticeable impact on both their passing and run game. Bivens is fun to watch when he is in his zone. Stevie had a great game and seems to be more and more around the ball and involved.

Does anyone have a roster for both the West and East that they can share with everyone? I was unable to attend.

Thursday - where and a time....

Kinney is a great young man. He needs to focus on his future. The program he is in will guide and develop him more than coming back to Newport just to battle for a state title. I will not be surprised to a few players leave Newport for better opportunities if they became available.

It should be an interesting season for several of the teams. I have noticed that several rosters have more 8th and 9th graders with limited Sophomores and Juniors if any. Is there a lack of interest from the sophomores and juniors this season? There are Freshman teams with more 7th and 8th graders than Freshmen. Again is it a lack of interest or is it within the coaching?

Newport has about 8 seniors and about 10 juniors. Next season, they will need to replace a Quarterback who has matured over the past few seasons into an outstanding individual. A few skill positions will also need to be replaced. I believe their offense and defense lines will be good.

Honestly if I just played a team that crushed us and have to play them in the first round I would ask my players what they wanted to do. And support them with their decision.

I find it interesting to see what schools have changed up their helmets or uniforms So who is staying with tradition and who has changed it up.

Rondon has talent but he also tends to lose control. I honestly believe Lowe will be the key to running the offense.

One option would be to allow the regional winner and runner-up to attend the tournament. That would increase the field to 32 teams with a draw format. No way that anyone should want to have the format set up like the current football playoffs. There are too many classes in football and should only be the top teams in their districts with the possibility of a wild card for a few teams.

Congratulations Bellevue girls basketball. I wouldn't call this an upset. I believed that Bellevue came to play and was prepared to show that their program has worked hard and earn the "W". NewCath girls are a good team overall so congrats to them on a good season.

I consider this game to be a toss-up. Lloyd's defense last week was all over the offense line of NewCath. NewCath will need to have a solid week of preparing their O-line to be more aggressive up front. Overall should be a good game and come down to the final few minutes of the fourth quarter.

Late 70's and early 80's Newport had a red Cats logo the black Cats logo was mid 80's.

I like that look of two different logos. Newport mid 80's had NHS on one side and Cats on the other. Nice balance look.

Agree 100% - this is an area within the football playoffs that needs to be addressed. But as far as basketball; I like the Sweet 16. I was merely curious as to others thoughts about it and overall it looks like we all agree.

Yeah I understand that and agree 100%. Was just thinking how the Region is setup and the possibility of a runner up reaching the top. But overall I agree I like it how it is now.

Just a thought. Kentucky has had the Sweet 16 for ever it seems. So my question is, what if the runner up in the region was able to attend it. Like I stated just a thought. But curious as to other opinions.

Why not develop a wild card system. Use the RPI to establish wild card teams.

Very sad to hear about the lack of discipline for Newport football. This is a major area of concern for them as a school district that needs to address. Football is suppose to help teach us the values we need to survive in life.

I'm thinking that NewCath was playing their JV in the second half against Bellevue. But as they say, Any given Sunday! Well this case Friday. Lol

Not to discredit Dayton, NewCath is more discipline. Dayton will need to be discipline, not allow themselves to fall apart if NewCath jumps out to a quick lead. NewCath will need to play their normal style of play and not let up if they jump out to a quick lead. Basically leave no doors open for the other for opportunities.

And this in my opinion is the issue with the current playoff system. But that is a thread to explore after the season.
