MaddenCurse44 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 The game will be played in a few weeks! Any word who was invited this year?

Just a point of clarification, it's not exactly an "invitation" scenario, per se. There isn't any "all star game selection committee" voting to choose the participants for this game. The coach from each NKFCA program is just told that he can enter up to 5 seniors from their team for the all-star roster. Frequently the kids who have accepted notable college offers decline the opportunity to participate, and unfortunately there are oftentimes coaches that don't really pay much heed to the whole thing until a day or two before the practices are taking place. 2

I wouldn't even call this an "All-Star" game. It's a nice event, that gives many of the participants one last chance to strap on the gear and compete, and a chance for coaches to reward a few outgoing seniors for a job well done during their career. 5

Completely agree with you, and basically that's what I was alluding to. I definitely can appreciate that the game takes place, but I think calling it an "all star" game is a pretty big misnomer. Personally I think I would opt for "Northern Kentucky East-West Senior Bowl". 2
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted May 15 Posted May 15 The first annual Northern Kentucky East/West All Star Game was held in June 1983, so it featured seniors from the 1982 football season. Anyone who has info on the final scores from the years I'm missing, feel free to chime in with them. 2024: East 28 West 17 2023: West 20 East 12 (OT) 2022: West 14 East 0 2021: West 40 East 34 (3OT) 2020: No Game (COVID-19) 2019: East 10 West 7 2018: West 20 East 13 2017: West 25 East 7 2016: West 41 East 30 2015: East 28 West 7 2014: West 28 East 20 2013: West 38 East 7 2012: No Game (Not enough participants for West.) 2011: East 26 West 8 2010: East 16 West 10 2009: East 6 West 0 2008: West 27 East 14 2007: East 44 West 14 2006: East 43 West 0 2005: ?? 2004: ?? 2003: West 35 East 7 2002: East 58 West 14 2001: ?? 2000: East 19 West 7 1999: East 29 West 13 1998: East 14 West 7 1997: West 24 East 21 1996: West 8 East 0 (Ended in 2Q due to weather) 1995: West 33 East 6 1994: West 34 East 6 1993: West 19 East 7 1992: East 14 West 6 1991: East 17 West 6 1990: East 19 West 7 1989: West 20 East 0 1988: ?? 1987: West 14 East 6 1986: West 14 East 6 1985: East 12 West 10 1984: East 15 West 8 1983: West 14 East 0
PanthersProwling Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I've had the pleasure to play in the game in '09, and to have coached in it since 2017. Although it is not a typical "all-star" game and it does give some players the chance to put the pads on one more time it is a lot of fun and a good time for all. I did have a player in my position group the one year from Cov Cath who was going on to the University of Dayton for football. Rolled his ankle and tried to go back in the game. I wouldn't let him. No reason to get hurt in that game when your about to go play college ball. 2
Sycamores57 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I always thought this was a cool event. Wish they would make a bigger deal about it for the kids. I think it could be a really good event for northern kentucky football
Breds82 Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I was very fortunate to be able to play in this game. My jersey says All-Stars so it is The All Star Game to me. 3

I was fortunate enough to play in the '99 game, and as long ago as that was, I still remember the best players in NKY played in that game, so I will still call it an All-Star game. Even Lorenzen played most of the game. I think the only person that didn't play was Derek Smith, but I can't totally recall that. I get that players are now looking out for themselves and their futures, and I can respect that, but that wasn't always the case. 4
AvidSportsJunkie856 Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I look forward to this event every year! To me, it is like the official kick off of the new football season. I realize dead period still takes place right after this, but it almost feels like this game signals the closeness of the new season to me. Plus, it is always nice to get to see these young men that poured so much into their high school football careers get to strap it up for "their school" one last time. 3

I haven't caught the game in quite a few years. Do they still deck out their helmets with all the different schools decals on them? I know a few people who ended up somehow keeping their helmets after the game and have them on display at their homes and it's still cool to see them. I was either too poor to purchase my helmet or not crafty enough to get it back to my house. I like All Star game but Senior Bowl would be another good one.
Honey Badger Posted May 20 Posted May 20 If it was a true All Star game I would have been in it as a Sophomore lol. 😉 1

Can't say I would have made it my Soph year, maybe Junior 😆 1
Breds82 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 We all swapped decals for the helmets as well. Our coach was very accommodating giving us so many decals to hand out. It was a competitive game when I played as well. I skipped senior trip to play in it, and I’m glad I did, I had an absolute blast. 1
