I'm going to go with Newport in an upset by 6 in this one. Holmes has a superior team and their bench has gained a lot of experience during the season. I believe Holmes' used about 9 different players last night against Boone. Newport seems to use only 6 players so this could be a big factor if this becomes a fast pace game. I do look for the first half to be fast pace but as far for the second half it will depend if Newport's Coach Russell can slow the game to get Sizemore and Tucker set up for the three point shot. Great season by both teams.

NewCath played a good game. NewCath did their scouting on Newport and was able to shut them down. Newport just couldn't get anything going tonight. Best of luck to both teams in the Region.

IMO I look for Highlands freshmen to win the tournament.

I notice Newport is not playing in the tournament. This doesn't surprise me at all. Newport's freshmen team is playing the small school tournament and IMO this is a mistake on Newport's part. If you want to build a successful program you have got to play a tough schedule. This freshmen squad has no leadership on the floor. Too many players on the team are more concern about their own performance rather than the team winning.

What transfers are you referring to for Newport? The two recently for this season are the only ones that I can recall.

IMO Highlands is deep on the bench and so is NewCath. Newport needs to be deeper on the bench. Newport has some good weapons on the bench but doesn't use them like they should.

I think we all knew this was going to be a tough district this season. It will be amazing to see how it comes out in the end.

NewCath did their homework on Newport. I've noticed Coach Meyers and Coach Pangallo at a few of Newport's. Scouting does pay off. Makes you wonder how many teams actually scout their opponents.

I think Newport will be too much the Breds to handle. Newport should win by 12.

Newport actually had this game but got too relaxed. SK looked good even without Swanson and a couple of other freshmen that I was told moved up.

This Tuesday, January 5th, triple header for Newport and Conner. Freshmen start it off at 4:30. Any thoughts on all three games? The varsity game should be a good.

If Coach Bob Schneider has been a major part of Northern KY football for as long as I can recall. He is a great coach that always seems to have the upper hand on his opponents. Never had the opportunity to play on his team but I did get the chance to play against them. I wish him on the best.

I'm going with Newport in this one. Newport has been getting stronger and stronger so I believe they can pull this one. Only thing that hurt Newport in the last game was the free throws. Newport in a close one by 7.

Newport game against Ludlow for Tuesday has been cancelled.

Any thoughts on this one? IMO Newport needs to start playing as a team and not individuals. Newport has talent but also has some players that are more concerned about themselves. If Ludlow can play as a solid team they should beat Newport.

Scott could have won this one by a wider margin. Scott was quick and moved the ball effectively. Newport did not hustle at all.

Highlands beat Newport's freshmen last night at Newport. I can't remember the score but it was a wide margin. Highlands' freshmen team is a solid group that will keep HHS talent pool solid for the next few years. Newport did manage to hang with Highlands for the first part of the game. Newport's freshmen lack discipline on the floor and IMO needs to learn to play as a team. Newport's #40 was about the only player going inside with his shot. Newport's #23 and #13 were too busy challenging every call the refs made to stay focused on the game. Nick True (HHS) was just too much for Newport's #33 to handle in the paint. True basically control the paint and made several rebounds.

Coach Russell is a good coach but IMO he needs to get that bench developed so that he more weapons to use. Newport runs about seven deep at this point. Tucker is the sixth man and Jones is the seventh. Newport has another senior named Opitz on the bench. The kid has some descent size and could possibly assist more under the rim. This would also give McDaniels and Collins a break so they can stay fresh for the game.

Newport played a great first half. Newport IMO was in control of the first half. It wasn't Holmes slowing the tempo in the first half. That isn't their style of play. Newport was all over Holmes on defense in the first half. Holmes shot from the outiside most of the first half. Now, the second half was all Holmes' style of play. IMO Newport got tired in the second half. IMO the difference in this game was Newport not hitting their free throws and not using their bench. Holmes has a lot of weapons on their bench.
