  1. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  2. IMO Highlands is a solid physical team. NewCath will have a hard time handling Highlands strong attack. NewCath can be physical too so I suspect this game will be well worth the price of admission to see. I'm hoping to catch this one myself.
  3. Thank you - that is exactly what I was trying to say earlier.
  4. My thoughts and prayers are with these young men and their families.
  5. First of all I believe you have misunderstood what I was trying to say. So here it is - I know that if you have talent a college will find you so what I am saying is that it is a plus to have a head coach that has some college connections to get kids into a college to play more and further their education. A lot of people believe that you need to be at a school that has been successful and you will get looks from colleges. IMO that is not the case - a good athlete is a student first and needs to make the best of every opportunity they have in the classroom and then on the field. For example, Coach Schlarman had a lot of connections from his playing days at UK. He was able to get some kids some good opportunities based on a kids performance in the classroom and on the field.
  6. Coach Hyder is a great person and he did what he could with the team.
  7. Thunder Stuck by AC/DC or Let the Bodies hit the Floor (or ground) not sure who sings it and if the is the right title or not.
  8. I am thankful that the bodies were found and that the families can have closure. I truly pray that the outcome would have been different in the beginning but now the families can have closure. May God take care of these families and my prayers go out to them.
  9. I can foresee kids getting looks from colleges because Nick Rice was respected from several other colleges that he competed against. This is something that Newport has lacked is a college connection. I have heard over the past few years that a lot of talented players leave Newport because their parents and them feel as though they ould not get any looks from colleges at Newport. I can assure everyone those days will be over with Head Coach Rice in control of the program.
  10. Basically Highlands has the more disciplined and Newport has some god athletes so the outcome IMO can go either way.
  11. Yes he will have a lot of talent coming back as far as the skilled positions. The line will still lack size but I'm sure Nick will take of that. I only wish that the seniors leaving could have had a chance to play for someone like Nick Rice.
  12. Rice should be able to bring back a physical attitude to the Cats. You're right Newport under the days of Coach Murphy, Lucas and Schlarman were hard nosed and physical. Newport was also a very discipline team at that time too. Newport IMO has lacked discipline for the past two seasons. Coach Hyder is a great person and did what he could do with the team. The team had some discipline problems that IMO separated the team and when that happens it's hard to get it back on track. A lot of talent with the exiting senior group that could have benefited from a coach like Rice.
  13. Dayton is a team that is taught to play hard at all times. This goes for any sport they put out there. Dayton coaches have been able to put a system in place over the past few years that teaches all of their sports programs - you've got to play hard to get the respect and bring pride back to your school. Newport IMO needs to wake up as a team - you've got talent there so if you want to beat Highlands you better show up ready to play hard. Congrats to Dayton on a good season and I can't wait to watch what you are capable of doing next season.
  14. Congats Nick - he was IMO the best choice for Newport and the one that will bring back pride in Newport football.
  15. I'm glad someone else thought the refs were bad tonight. Newport played a hard game tonight but fell short to a talented Beechwood team. Number 10 for Beechwood was the strength of the team. He goes hard to the basket and handles the ball great. Newport stayed with Beechwood and IMO had improved a lot as the season went on. But the refs were bad - at one point it was 7 Newport fouls to Beechwood's 1 - I saw a lot of pushing off by Beechwood and it took awhile before the refs called it. Good job Newport and good luck in high school. Beechwood good job tonight and good luck with the rest of the tournament.
  16. By the way, welcome to BGP's colonelsrock.
  17. Why did Brossart leave CovCath? I thought he had another coaching job he was taking. Now, he wants Newport? I don't understand why he left without having a coaching position or other to go to. Can someone please explain?
  18. I hope #23 Beatrice still plays some basketball while at CovCath he is a hard nose kid. There was another kid that played a good game too and I think he was #12 or 13 I recall him sinking ever free throw he got.
  19. I agree with you 100% - Newport has been playing together as of late and their fate is in their own hands. Beechwood has a good group but I believe Newport can knock them off.
  20. The candidates are at this point Dave Brossart, Nick Rice and a teacher at the high school. IMO - Newport should hire Nick Rice because he is a good motivator and he IMO can bring back and keep the talent there. Brossart IMO would not be a good fix for Newport because I just don't believe he is what Newport needs at this time. The other candidate IMO definitely is not what Newport needs. Rice is the right choice IMO and I hope Newport's AD's realize it. If you (Newport's AD's) want someone that is going to stay around and produce and actually have some college connections to help the kids get recognized then Rice is your man.
  21. Newport managed to get a shot with about 2.7 seconds left on the clock. Newport started out strong and then went cold letting IHM back into the game. IMH's #25 handles the ball good and shoots a good 3-point shot. IMH also had another player I believe his number was 23 - he played a hard game and was very impressive. St Henry will be getting a good group of players out of IMH. Newport's #44 Pearson got the winning shot. Pearson has been playing some good ball the past few games and Newport's big men have been pulling down the rebounds. If Newport can jump off to a good start against Beechwood they might just pull off an upset.
  22. Both teams played great tonight. Brossart played their usual discipline game and Newport actually adapted to it seeing that Newport is usually a run and shoot team. I also noticed that some of the NewCath's coaches were there tonight so one might believe that Newport has a good chance against Highlands in the districts. I know that Newport has Dayton first but Newport hasn't had too much trouble beating the Devils this season.
  23. Does anyone have the brackets for all three grades?
