IMO Kelly should have been up front with the team. This is a team comprised of young men that should have enough maturity to realize what opportunities are. Kelly should have enough faith in his team that they would react as young men and still preform to their abilities. This ND job apparently is a dream job for Kelly. Kelly IMO has build a great program for UC and now it is up the university to keep it going. The university needs to evaluate what Kelly has done for the school and look for a coach that has similar characteristics.

Freshmen, JV and Varsity all go at it. What's everyones thoughts on it?

Newport came out strong and never looked back. In fact the players off bench ended up having just as much time in the game as the starters.

Dayton 67 Bellevue 38

Newport beat Villa tonight.

Pangallo did not play which I was surprised about that one. I'm not sure which one Grosser was so I can't give any details on him. NewCath has a good team but not as quick as you would expect them to be. Newport has a quick group but for some reason they stopped playing together in the second half. IMO one of Newport's biggest problems is the discipline factor. IMO you either fix the problem or get rid of it.

Within a few seconds of the game a Newport player was injured as he was attempting to block a shot. The player was transported to the hospital on a back board. The player is going to be fine according to a Newport representative. The game itself was a well played game by both teams in the first half. Newport's #23 had a couple of 3's and handled the ball fairly good. NewCath's #10 did a good job getting the ball around the floor. The second half was all NewCath. NewCath went on a run as the second half started and never looked back. Newport IMO came out slow and never got moving. IMO Newport began to play as individuals. Newport will be a better team once they realize if they play as a team they can accomplish more.

Newport's enrollment has dropped over the past few years and IMO they will probably drop to 1A when the realignment comes out. Now, can Newport possibly be a force in the 1A, yes it is possible. Now, one would also agree that Beechwood is the major force in 1A in Northern Kentucky and Bellevue has been making some ground to be a power in the 1A too. Overall it could be an interesting district if Newport moves to 1A and their program builds under the guidance of Coach Rice.

IMO I look for this all star game to be a lot better than last years. There is more talent overall than last season.

The game is for seniors only. Kelly is a junior.

IMO this is one of their top defensive teams. Offensively IMO I don't believe this team is one of the better ones.

I do no know that Camp Ernest 6th grade team lost in overtime to Newport in a high scoring game. Camp Earnest 7th won and I believe the 8th grade team also won.

IMO NewCath always seems to ready when it comes to the playoffs but I'm going with DeSales in this one. NewCath 14 DeSales 22

IMO I believe Beechwood will win this game. However, if Bellevue IMO uses all of their weapons and not just focus on Buckler then Bellevue may have a chance. Buckler is a good runner and has a good O-line in front too. Bellevue has some other players that can make a difference.

The whole reality to your view is that this happens throughout high school sports. There are a lot of coaches that focus all of their attention on one athlete and not the team as a whole. I recall this HC team when they were freshmen and yes they were very solid and managed to keep the majority of the team together. Great group I wish them well with the future.

I agree with you 100 percent. The better student / athletes need to participate in all of the sports possible. Now IMO you also need to weed out the ones that are merely there for themselves and have no respect for their coaches and discipline to be involved in the programs. These are what I call cancers to a program and do nothing but hurt a program. Newport has had their fair share of these types of athletes recently too. IMO I believe this is what keeps some of the talent away from other sports. Some of the seniors this year that would have helped the football IMO were Collins, McDaniels, Hatfield and Plank. I'm sure I missed a few but those few I named have talent and are excellent students that know how to be successful. I believe that you and I are on the same path in that we both want the best for all of the programs. IMO I believe that Coach Rice in the position of AD will hopefully help all of the programs both boys and girls. :thumb:
