Not one true student/athlete wants to be a part of a losing program year in and year out, it just does not happen. Produce a winner and they will come and stay. It's the only way. The head coach is responsible for producing this type of program.

I for one cant see how any kid who has grown up in a school system and played sports all the way through, could not have enough emotion and school pride to want to play for that school in high school. I cant imagine helping a rival team beat the team that i had grown up wanting to play for and looking up to. That shows me that these parents and kids have no loyalty. Instead of trying to be part of the solution to a problem, they become part of the problem. I would rather lose with my friends and teammates that I have been with all my life, than win with a team that I have no ties to. Not to mention helping defeat the friends and teammates I used to play with. I'll never understand, and please guys please dont insult us all on here with an "academics" post. I think we all no that these transfers are usually some of the top atheletes in the school. I'm sure that education is not the top priority for these parents.

 

I agree with you 100% on this if the talented players that gave up on GCHS would have stayed faithful to their school we would have seen some more wins. I agree with you it takes a better person to stay with his team both ups and downs then to tuck and run.:thumb:

I agree about the division. My wife went to Greenup and at her class reunion you could tell the two apart and I am not from Greenup County

Second, It is hard to say where GC would be. I think GC is paying the price for the sins of a few vocal discontents that finally got their way and ran off the winningest coach in school history. Would Ironton do this to Coach Lutz or Russell do this to Coach McGlone? There is no way to know for sure, but I think Coach Maynard would have been able to keep most of the kids happy enough to stay and the talent level would have remain extremely high, instead of so many tranfers. JMO

Are the politics in Greenup County isolated in South Shore? Is South Shore the problem? If South Shore is the problem in Greenup County why not split the high school into East West or Greenup County and McKell. If the people of South Shore are tough to get along with then make them compete by themselves. It seems to work in Carter County.

Unfortunately, they can't split the school now, from what I know the kids get along and they don't care after a few weeks at the high school. It seems to be the parents on both sides of the county. If they could have set up one middle school instead of 2, this could have saved a lot of headaches.

I believe if you asked Coach Lutz they tried to push him out a few years ago, and did for one season.

 

He left three years ago but that was due to his wife's illness. Yes, he was almost not re-hired before that on one instance due to him retiring from teaching. (He retired due to his wife's illness then, too.) At that time, they didn't have a position for him and they almost had to hire another coach. Parents and fans alike put pressure on the system and they found a way to keep him. So, no, they didn't try to push him out.
