First, this is a BAD thread when it comes to emotions. Ram said it best when he said that most transfers happen before high school. Most of the transfers to Raceland (including my daughter) was done without athletics in mind and in the fifth grade. Until this year, she never played on a team, just barrel raced her horses. I think that most kids that do transfer for "other" reasons do so because they don't fit in or "politics as usual". Do I think they should? I'll answer it this way...I had the chance to transfer when I went from McKell to GC, but couldn't imagine the abandonment of my teammates and the retribution that would've occurred on the field/diamond if I did it. Listen, this transfer thing has happened at a lot of schools for a long time, all over the state. It is the same argument and same "bad blood" feeling for each occurrence. There is no answer for this and there is no argument against it, either. Most of these decisions are personal and family issues. It cannot be regulated any better than it is right now and people that want to change/tranfer, will.

A winning football program will stop the transfers. How cheerleaders, baseball players and dance team members have transferred out og Greenup? Not many.

Winning will cure this problem. Quit avoiding the root of the problem.

How many girls have transfered in to be part of the cheerleading squad???

I know of one girl who transferred a few years ago from Raceland to GCHS to cheer. She has since graduated.

That is not the problem with athletes transferring in. It is out, and it will continue to happen until it gets fixed.

That is what I am saying. Girls come to be part of GC cheerleading because they are successful. Same thing with students transferring out to other schools who have successful teams/programs. Winning cures a lot of problems!

Not one true student/athlete wants to be a part of a losing program year in and year out, it just does not happen. Produce a winner and they will come and stay. It's the only way. The head coach is responsible for producing this type of program.

You can add Austin Blankenship, Jessie White, and Dalton Terry . Yes they all still live in Greenup except Jessie White. I know for a fact that Austins parents moved him to Raceland right after basketball season was over at Wurtland last year simply because of all the politics and they are big sports fans.

My mother's people come out of Greenup County and she used to tell me about the rivalries up there. (McKell, South Shore, Greenup etc...) I was just wondering, (without bothering to call her up and ask her) how many high schools are there in Greenup County now? I know Raceland is in the county on the Boyd County side. (My grandmother used to teach there) Of course, there is Greenup County High, (My great aunt used to teach there) but, is Russell in Greenup County or Boyd County? Where exactly is Rose Hill? I was thinking there was another high school on the Ohio River going to Ashland U.S. 23. I was just wondering out of curiosity. Thanks ahead for the response!

Russell is in Greenup County, Rose Hill is in Ashland in Boyd County

Like Mom said, Raceland, Russell, and Greenup County are all in Greenup County. Ashland, Fairview, Rose Hill, and Boyd County are all in Boyd County. Carter County has East Carter and West Carter. Lawrence County only has Lawerence County, and Lewis County only has Lewis County.

Thanks Ram...you answered another question that I didn't know...I never knew where Fairview was located. I thought it was located up around Maysville somewhere. I knew that Berea used to be in a district with them a few years back.

 

The reason for the interest in that area up there is the fact that Rockcastle, who finished third in their district, will be playing the second place team in the Rowan, Greenup, Lawrence, Boyd district. Poor McCreary is going to have one heck of a drive (four and half hours from there to Boyd I think? Less for the closer teams.) to play the number one team. It'll be two and half hours drive plus for Rockcastle. And I have to get back home to work that Saturday...which stinks. Anyway, it will be fun to see Rockcastle play against some of the cousins at Greenup High if it works out that way. Family bragging rights are important!
