This is not Mahon's first move. He originally played in Russell's JFL until the fourth grade when he moved to play in Greenup's JFL. He stayed in the Greenup system until at least the 9th grade (I know he started the year as Greenup's Freshman QB.) Then I heard he left Greenup and transferred to Lawrence Co, before he then landed in Ashland last year. (Don't quote me on the Lawrence Co. deal, but that is what I heard) Anyway, if he really desired to play QB, then Raceland would have more of an immediate opening. Greenup has a strong QB in Junior-to-be Eric Craft, so if he came to Greenup it would probably be at RB, (Which he played very well at during his JFL days)

Just curious, gchs_uk9 what does Greenup Co have coming back? You have them ranked as no. 2. With their record the last couple of years, just wondering if Coach Sammons has made any changes to the offense and defense?

1. I agree that l. Central with their 11 wins, should be up there. 2. Russell has a lot of spots to fill from last years squad, and non-district play will be tougher, plus adding Mason Co to the district makes for a much tougher schedule this year. As a fan, it would be nice to see a 3-peat!! 3, 4 and 5 - Did not see Tilghman, but saw the other 2 teams and based on what I saw, I would move Breathitt up a notch. They are very physical up front on both sides of the ball. 6-10 From what I've read, Are pretty close. Overall, this is going to be an exciting year in 4A. Can't wait.

Funny you should mention that. As a matter of fact he is available. He resigned from Clay High School(Near Portsmouth Oh) just this week

Russell should be strong again this year. They will need to find folks to step in on the offensive line to go with returning starters Adam Foster and Tobey Hicks. Seth Harvey should be one, but the rest are going to have to step up and take those spots. The backfield has a good corp in bailey and abrams. Fullback is up in the air. On defense I see Jones possibly being moved to Wills spot at linebacker and Abrams moving to one end and Foster manning the other end which he did on several snaps last year. The entire secondary will have to be replaced, but their are several candidates looking to grab those spots. Having cornwell back to man the middle of the d-line will help too. Dolly will have big shoes to fill as kicker, but I feel he is up to the task. Spring practice is this week, so we'll see as the week goes on what's been brewing in their heads these past 3 months.

I think it will most definitely be a close game. As much as I hate to say it, it may come down to who is wearing the stripped shirts tomorrow. If they call it close then it favors Russell because of their depth on the bench, but if they are allowed to play, then it will make it harder to overcome Rose Hill's Terry and Queen. If one of Russell's guards hits for 6 to 10 then Russell should win, But after seeing the box score of the RH / EC game, if they can get 8 to 10 from Britt and 8 from Dundon then Rose Hill may be making a return trip to BG. So good luck to both teams. Unlike what the paper was touting the Russell / Rowan as the marquee match-up, I think this one will be the best.

Have to agree with that statement too. I remember JV from his days as a RH Royal and even though he was a little mischievous now and then, he was always a gentlemen.

Has anyone said if it was a concussion? If it was, then I'm really concerned about Tyler's playing future. I know for a fact this is at least his 2nd concussion he's received playing. My prayers go out for him. He is a tremendous young man with a wonderful family. Good luck to Russell on Friday. Our prayers are with Jonathan also

Hey folks: Was flipping through channels last night during the UK/LSU game and found womens College basketball UofL (Ranked #22) vs. Providence. UofL won the game pretty easily and I was able to watch one of our own Kala Faulkner play the last few minutes of the game. Handled the ball pretty well, made one turnover, played real good defense but unfortunately missed both of her shots. It was good to see her get play again. Looking forward to next year adding Laura to the UofL mix and watching Emily shoot em up with Middle Tennessee St(Ranked #17)

My son has lifted for high school football since eigth grade and he said what lift helped him alot of Butterflies. He did them everyday and the thing he said that it helped the most was tackling. Not one person broke one of his tackles, it helps you when you wrap up.

I agree with all of your comments GoRadio and also want to echo those others who have complimented you on your announcing. I listened to you guys alot especially during the post season run of regionals and state. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the broadcasts from the girls state tourny last year. It was so good to hear local folks, calling the game for local girls they know. Your radio station is always programmed into my car radio throughout the year especially during baseball season to cheer on my beloved Reds. I can't wait for Spring training to start now that the NFL is done. Of course that is until July/August when we here at Russell begin to get excited about our football friday nights!!

Looks to be shaping up to be a good region tournament at good old MSU again this year. Can't wait. I agree with Cubster on his picks, but if you could I'd have Russell 1 and Elliot 1A. They are really that close imo. good luck to Elliott in the all A tonight and to Russell at GC. Both should be great games to watch

No kidding my son had to go against him during the state game anytime kasey ran the ball and he said that he was the hardest hitters hes faced all year

Sorry for all the hoopla I started with my post. Just asked a simple question, got a simple answer from RickyP and said thank you. I guess I figured that would be the end of this thread, but from the looks of it, I've opened the proverbial can of worms. For that I apologize. I also really admire Coach Fraley. We both are GCHS grads and I've respected him and his family. He has really turned out to be both an excellent coach and person. Good luck to both schools in Bball (girls and boys squads). Here's hoping whoever makes it out of the 16th, makes a deep run in the Sweet 16.
