The district will borrow $600,000 to have the turf and new lights installed, build a second concession stand and renovate the restrooms and track. Original estimates had been close to $1 million.

Newport is putting together a nice facility. Their weight room is one of the nicest in the state. And now they add turf for the football field.

Are they also putting a rubber track in?

Well it was in the Sunday paper that Newport will start the new turf on Tuesday (6-20-06). I have to say i am glad it will happen. Congrats on the Turf.

Any idea on when the field will be finished?

Work will begin Tuesday and should be complete by Aug. 4.

It's in the article..........

This will be nice for all Newportonians. Now all of the Newport teams , including soccer, can play at their school on a nice, soft field.

The baseball coach has to be excited as well.

Judging from the restroom facilities, I would say it dates at least to the 50's, but could be even older.

Ancient, and hasn't been improved in years.

Great news to hear for the athletic program at Newport.

I agree, my buddy has a boy who will be a visitor and the home team all at once:lol: , he's going to be a freshman so I'm sure I'll make it down there a few times this season.

i think and if im not mistaken the stadium was built during the great depression so people could have work and earn money during that time.......
