Work begins tomorrow on Turf at Newport...

Didnt the Mafia have something to do with building the stadium? There is a very old newspaper article about it and showed a picture of the construction back in the 30's.

Isn't there some kind of field dedication or ground breaking Tuesday night at the Newport Stadium and what time??

The ground breaking will be at 6:30 at the stadium.

For those NCC fans who were there, Pikeville has the same brand of turf, Sprinturf, on their field.

It does seem like a WPA project...

You are correct. There used to be a plaque on one end of the stadium that tells about it and the dates.

This is a huge step foward for Newport High School. Way overdue!!! This first thing I would due is raise the rent:D

As a person that totally dislikes turf...all I can say is please say it ain't so.

I really think that schools should update their stadiums but turf??? I've never totally agreed with it and guess I never will though.......BUt kudos to the Newport folks for wanting to improve their facilities.

My guess is if you were in the position of the folks who all had to share a field like the one in Newport, you would likely have a differing opinion of the turf. It will be a life saver for that facility, IMO.

I would definitely agree. I too am not much of a fan of the turf but if ever a facility was in dire need of some extreme measures being taken it was the Newport facility.

Fairly certain he's just talking about NCC playing there.

I believe Bellevue's Gilligan stadium and Newports were opened around the same time......Gilligan Stadium--was originally dedicated in 1936.

The addition of turf and improvement of the rest room facilities are certainly overdue and much needed. Although the stadium is very old, I still believe it to be one of the very best stadiums to watch high school football.

O there already working on that, rent is going up considerably for the breds.:fire:

I think he was talking bout the rent will go up to Highlands type prices. You know the birds dont let ya on their field for no less than your first born child.:D
