Work begins tomorrow on Turf at Newport...

What is going to be done about the corners of the endzone that were on the concrete track? IMO that was very dangerous for the Wide Recievers and DB's who had to run toward these concrete corners!

Will it be ready for the start of the season?

Doesn't matter who owns it or doesn't own it.

It's always fun to see the Breds use the field later in the season every year than the Wildcats.

:D

Glad to see Newport's Field get some renovation. These old facilities are priceless reminders of proud past for many river towns , like Portsmouth's Spartan Staduim and Ironton's Tank Stadium. I wonder with the turf , if those 'gas' post sideline heaters will be maintained. I have never seen that version of heater on any sideline before. Last question , did Newport's field ever have concrete stands on the visitor side ?

Looks to be well on its way to being ready. If it goes as planned it will be done weeks before the first game is to be played on it.

It will be fixed and done right. The goal posts are out and the field will not go on to the track now.

Here's where your info gets mixed up.

That field is not NEwport High School's field.

That is why the AD will have nothing to do with what gets charged and so on.

That field belongs to the City of Newport. Not Newport High School, the AD can want to raise the rent for NCC and take over whatever, but it's not up to him in the slightest.

The field does belong to Newport Independent Schools. The AD will have nothing to do with what NC is charged. That will be up to the Board of Education of Newport Schools. Last, Newport Schools sent a message to NCC and asked them what they thought would be a fair price. If anyone would like to argue with this they can send me a private message. Believe me, I know what I am talking about.

Was on 471 today and I saw turf on the field. From what I could see, it looked like they have turf laid down between the 40's

It's looking great they have about 2/3 of the turf laid down now.

Thank Goodness that might have been the worst field i have ever seen. It was worse then are practice field down here in Somerset. The turf should be really nice as long as they move the track out of the back of the endzone.

I believe the stadim was built in the 30's, should be a nice place to play with the renovations.

I believe Newport and Bellevue's Football Field were built at near the same time, with New Deal Money (WPA?) from the FDR administration.

Was returning from an evening at the Levee and was headed home along the highway, and Newport's stadium lights were on.

The field look sweet.

There was some equipment out there and was not sure if they were working but the field looked really nice.

The letter "N" at midfield, the endzones were black, with "WildCats" in red, trimmed in white, and that was the north endzone....didn't get a quick glance at the other endzone.

The black endzone really make it stand out.

I'll check it out when we come up to play you guys. It sounds nice. We are suppose to be getting a new stadium when they build the new school here. It also will have turf. It definitely has it's advantages. Can't wait to come up and check it out.

Drove by the stadium yesterday and it looks really good, the big "N" at midfield and like Labs stated, the EZ's stand out color wise.

The field is looking pretty freakin awesome. They are putting in new lights, a new scoreboard, adding another concession stand, and re doing the track. Its gonna be pretty top notch down there when its all said and done. Something for NHS and the community to be proud of.
