  1. Hey Juggs , how about " the rocket " did he play beyond high school ?
  2. Agree on program ... To win state in a particular year means your composite fundamentals in that year were better than everyone you defeated. This was the case for the 2005 Devils. No flash , no stars , just solid fundamentals in more areas than anyone else in 2A .... Kids , scheme and coaching produce these results ... That's the beauty of this team sport ...
  3. If JC is physical and runs the ball between the tackles very well they might be ahead of the Devils ... If not , "ain't no way you can beat the Devils".... Devils strength is the entire field ,athletic play - the old coach brings execution ...
  4. Who's doing the cooking ( and everthing else for Dawg football ) since my old buddy and son are moving onto Marshall ?
  5. Love that Woody picture ... It just says football - takes me back .... Radio station should have more range than previous years , wonder why the change ? Hopefully will still have Doty Shell Mart First Down - Devils ... You gotta love small town football .....
  6. Devils will go as far as lines of scrimmage take them ..... Championship we had the skills couldn't consistently knock people off the ball. O line and D front seven are keys in tough games. Devils reload ... These kids have practiced or played in alot of games in last several years ..... These extra reps are priceless ...
  7. Top of 3a looks better than old 2a ... 2a within the districts was very weak. Russell is playing much better schedule this year ... Most happy about that , games wil be games ...
  8. Looking forward to playing Mason again ... they can beat the Devils , several on this years schedule who can certainly makes for lot better games... 3a is a welcomes change ... Seats on the visitor side are closer to the field , no track in between , from years past Mason is well coached and has some nice kids ....
  9. I know the road and the location very well .. Hotel California ... Those who pass Jackson Bros .. beware ... Do not cross the bridge ... Actually looking forward to the excitement renewing this rivalry will bring ... How about some flip flops ???
  10. Devils play down in Louisa , anything is possible ... From the heckeling adult dawgs on the sideline , kids on the field and the ref's likely from a local Fort Gay WVa watering hole ... What a hostile atmosphere , looking forward to it ... Somewhat like Vipperman .... Only lights on in Louisa will be at the Power Plant ...
  11. Having been on both sides of the Ohio River ... Biggest improvement to KY Football would be in fundamentals ... Blocking and Tackling... Basketball in this state focuses on fundamentals at individual level .. kids know and accept that they must grow these skills themselves .. Ky kids likely have some of the best basketball fundamentals in the nation ... Football in many areas has no real feeders. Russell does thru a fantastic JFL system. It's a major factor to the on going success. Kids focus at early age on fundamentals , so by high school they can focus on execution. Football is simple especially at high school level , blocking and tackling by kids who want to , size is not that big a factor ... Improving in these areas would raise the level of football in the enitre state ... You are only as strong as weakest link. Many schools in KY have major room to improve in these basics ... Look at Northern Ky ( Cincy area) schools , they are more like Ohio than the rest of the state .... North East Ky is kind of a mixture of schools with good feeders and those with weak ones ....
  12. I agree with EKU5 on line of scrimmage in '04 .. We all agree someone will step up ... Ivan and staff play alot of kids so to guarantee the "beat goes on " .. Backing up to '04 for just a minute , Russell had the kids to compete on D with Belfry , the trade off was number of kids on the field and at which positions. I believe if staff just pointed to one season / one game and not a on going program , Devils best possible 11 could have made the '04 Belfry game really interesting ... Loss to Belfry in '04 was hard to take ( because we had the kids ) , but those kids who got experience by fire sustained a level of play that carried over into a '05 State Championship .... Now that's a program ...
  13. We are all pretty much on same page with respect to Devils over last three years .... Looking foreward to the transition this year , last three years had key kids holding down critical positions so transition was more somewhat easy... Haing Jones in the backfield should really help ... Filling holes is where present Devil staff shines ... Good luck to all the kids ... JFL physicals today so season is coming ...
  14. wow looks nice , hard to believe high schools can afford this ... really nice
  15. Cooksey is a fine person with kids best interest ... Has proven that year after year in this area ... Again problem at Fariview might be in the long run .. When all the outside influences move on and they will ...
  16. How far Devils go depends on both lines of scrimmage. Gross era shredded the line of scrimmage perfect back for Wing T ... Kasey needed a hole , 2005 won by grinding it out ( not so much wing t) and timely clutch passing. Last year Devils running game stalled somewhat in second half of final. Seemed Devils went away from the run , couldn't grind it out as had done against OC... This year in the tough games will again come down to the lines of scrimmage .. Devils dominate Red Army last year on line of scrimmage ... Big Seth is a major loss .... Will be interesting how this years team runs it , pure Wing T , Power I , or combination ... I don't agree lines can be easily replaced .. But Devils do seem to reload ...
  17. Looking foreward to the season starting ..... Devils will be solid , schedule will be better , Playoffs should be better much better district with Mason Co , they have skilled kids who can play with anyone ... Let's go
  18. The real problem with all this is long term. Fairview like alot of other very small schools is going to wake up one day and no one is going to want to coach football ... Without dedicated leadership and the ability to rally the school and community (year after year) , this program will likely face this in the future ...
  19. Someone pinch me , didn't Fairview just get over dropping football ? Didn't they have a coach who was young and a proud alumni ? How did this dream end by the program wanting to head in a different direction ? What new direction could such a fraglie program want to take ? Can anyone answer the questions ? ... makes no sense ... This guy will rebound , if you can make a program at Fairview or any other small school .. you can coach ...
  20. Your son likely has more opportunity to play at the next level coming from St X .... goodluck , lift weights and run short sprints/steps ...
  21. Beside the obvious kids waitng in the wings like 38 ,13 who steps up for the Devils this year ? This is a reload year at alot of positions , still expect big things from the Devils ... How about # 22 only a soph but Ivan and staff put kids on the field that can play , even if they have to develope some ??
  22. Belfry was different last year ( speed and physical play was down a bit ) .... New stadium is too nice for the nation , suggest tearing up the turf and restoring the mud of Vipp .. This might restore the Red Army Mojo ... Look forward to playing Pirates again , lot's of excitement ....
  23. Dawgs need to stick with running the ball and over powering people. When passing doesn't produce consistent results they will be changing offenses again mid stream this year. LCHS is most productive when they just line it up and run it at you , especially with such an emotional coach ... In high school it's all about execution .... "run it varnum" and get wild about a 5 yard gain , that's football in Louisa ...
  24. Old Rambler always has great OSU pictures ....Certainly a guy with great football taste ... Raceland will always be good. I am impressed by the head coach and staff. Coaching in high school , that can get a program in place can produce success at any and all levels , year in and year out ... Raceland , Russell , and Fairview have that right now ....
