10 Good
  1. Congrats to the Tomcats. did not see this one coming. good to see them coming around, just wish it didn't come against Russell. Sat way up here in Butler Co. Ohio watching my kids' school, Edgewood, who also runs the wing t. The Cougars lost also, and I was listening to the Russell/Ashland game on the phone. Long night.
  2. Russell just has a better team. You have to play the comptetion that is put before you, so some of those easy games, they are what they are. Get some good looks at upcoming talent. But I don't think they makes a team unconditioned should they wind up in a 4'th quarter battle. Good to see the Tomcats improving, I like for them to do well any other week that when they're playing the Red Devils. 27-14 Russell
  3. good luck in Louisville. Coach Haywood is pure class. What a stranglehold Belfry and Russell has had on state the past 5 years. Kudos to Breathitt, but before you reserve a spot in next years semis, don't forget about :fire:the Red Devils
  4. Mercer went only managed to go 5-6 this year in Class 5 A. This shows the KHSAA were wrong to let them compete at 2 A last year when they dwarfed the enrollment of their opponents. They were excellent last year at the 2 A level with the numbers of athletes they had to draw from, but one has to wonder how that would have played out if they were in with the large schools last year.
  5. Why can't the Devils convert extra points ? They must be around 60 percent or so. If they don't address this, it could cost them a tight game sooner or later.
  6. finally had a chance to read the 3 A preview. a few questions for everyone back home. any truth to Cordle taking the reins and Jones moving to tailback, or is that not happening:fire: ? also where and why did Seth Harvey leave again ? :fire: Go Devils !
  7. I think based on past seasons, Rockcastle and Bell were not having the level of success they are used to. right now we're dealing with comparing on paper. All I have to go on is Belfry ringing up Middlesboro and allowing the Jackets 3 scores. Then Russell completely suffocated the Pirates. Then where Corbin had a poor outing with Middlesboro point wise, the teams slot into place a little clearer. Middlesboro could not have slowed Russell. And we were thrilled when Belfry beat them, to save us a much longer drive. I think Corbin did well for themselves in the playoffs, and I won't argue the future looks good for them. But they finished..without looking it up, 7-5 ? The Redhounds weren't one of the top 4 AA teams this year, or they would have made it further than they did. Anyway, I would be interested in reading up on the program if you can hook me up with some articles.
  8. not sure why you are so angry, you're pushing plain old chat room flaming with your response. the first line of your post says it all, COULD/SHOULD. you didn't, the scoreboard says it all. doesn't matter who figured out what at halftime, or who shot themsleves in the foot, the better team won. and all mudslinging aside, this wasn't a matchup that would have went 5 each way if it were played 10 times. Corbin played well, and Russell didn't appear to be on track all night. maybe you can attribute that to Corbin's effort. I also think you should research Russell's schedule. Obviously it was harder than Mercer's, no offense to them. I hope you aren't hanging your hat on beating one team 2-0, obviously they were down a bit. you are only remembered for your last game. Corbin may have a nice tradition, but not as well known and respected as Russell's. Corbin's best days were back when our grandfather's were in diapers, that's not a slam, just a fact. Kasey Clark played the playoffs with a torn meniscus. Thankfully he isn't the entire team, but anyone who has seen him play knew he was really slowed down by this injury. side note- the hit he came up from safety, and laid on the Corbin player who caught a 4'th quarter swing pass. was the most brutal hit I have seen in HS football, playing or watching. I hope you do well in the new 2A class. but to say you hope you play Russell in a few years, says you that feel you can't defeat them in the upcoming seasons either.:fire:
  9. even if the Corbin/Russell game had been at played in Coach Jewell's driveway, the outcome would have been the same. Corbin played a courageous game, but caught Russell hurting, and still had trouble on the lines of scrimmage. let's not discredit the Devils. Luck had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the run they have been on the past few seasons. Good teams make their own luck. Russell had most likely the only defense in AA that could slow down Mercer, as Mercer's did Russell's. The Devils stonewalled Belfry, who hammered Middlesboro, the same Middlesboro who hung 62 on Corbin. So to say Corbin would have had an answer for Mercer's offense is going out on a limb, wouldn't one think ?:fire:
  10. I was impressed with Corbin when they came to Russell, it was a much tougher game than expected. It's good to hear you have a good nucleus coming back, I like seeing the balance of power shifting. It gets old when the same schools make deep runs each year. However, I think you're overlooking Coach Haywood and his Belfry Pirates when you already have a 10 win season penciled in. :fire:
  11. Ok, Doug, I couldn't stand it anymore, I had to join so I could post. I still can't talk about the game. Not going to slam Mercer, but it still hurts. One thing no one has talked about, was the play calling. Why did we go to the air way too soon ? Plenty of time, 3 timeouts, and the football looked like a kid's balloon everytime it was thrown up in that wind. Oh well, a topic for another day. I think we should already have our special teams out in the cold practicing for next season. Here's a disturbing trend for the Devils with special teams' play in big games, in recent memory: 2000 Lexington Catholic AA playoffs, missed XP in OT, lost game 2002 @ Breathitt County AA semis, missed XP in OT, cost us the game, and most likely the 2002 title, as Breathitt won by 50+ the next week over Corbin. then the game against Mercer, missed XP, then MC bobble their's, kid bails them out with a sweet run on a busted play and all of a sudden we're down 2. how can you consistently miss XP's ? missed at Belfry the week prior also.
