Russell to play Ironton in 2009

Featured Replies

I know over the the years Russell has had a cake walk schedule as some would call it. Russell will play Ironton in 2009. Who was the last Kentucky team to bet the Fighting Tigers?

I believe it was Beechwood 2005.

I believe it was Beechwood 2005.

If it is a win, then it is a win with an asterisk next to it. The game was played at Ironton and the Beechies were leading in a close game in the late 3rd Quarter when the lights went out. Due to the long distance, Beechwood rightfully said they wouldn't come back to finish the game the next day so the game was called and Beechwood given the victory.

Belfry has taken their licks to Ironton over the years, also had a couple victories, err disappear to the Tanks Stadium magic (ie controversial officiating), the last time, and only time, Belfry defeated Ironton was way back in 1999 I believe.

Ashland hasn't beaten the Tigers in a looooong time as well.

I hope the Red Devils can do well against Ironton.

I hope they do well against Ironton as well. But, no matter what happens, playing Ironton will make Russell better prepared for the playoffs.

I loved playing in Tank Memorial Stadium. Hated the results but love the atmosphere. The old Russell/Ironton games were great. Win or lose, usually lose, I always liked playing at Ironton.

I am glad to see the series started up again. There was some good football between the two when they played.

I really hope the game is scheduled toward the end of the season right before the playoffs. I forgot to ask who will be dropped from the schedule. I would presume it would be Simon Kenton.

Heard this was in the works, but haven't heard confirmation as of yet...as Coach Jaggers may remind you, it ain't official until the contracts are signed and in hand.

I hope that Lutz is still coaching Ironton in 2009 - because Ironton without Lutz is NOT the Ironton of old.

True, but always a good test. In 2005 Ashland lost by 1 point, shanking a field goal in the final seconds and letting a victory slip away. It was one of the best high school football games I've ever seen.

It will be a great tune-up for the playoffs for Russell. Plus it will be good for the gate $.

:thumb: I agree.

I may be mistaken...but I don't think Belfry has ever beaten Ironton. We had a couple of games taken from us.....especially in Ironton...but i don't remember ever logging one in the win column.
