I've been part of HS sports for a long time. I woke up this morning knowing this thread was coming. It has every year since the KHSAA went to this format. Funny stuff

Not sure which Spalding ball will be the official ball but I have used the Spalding 500 ball in tournaments and it is very comparable to the Rawlings r100. I think the coaches will be happy with it

I have to agree with Bullybird. Why dont we talk about quarterbacks arms getting hurt or soccer player pulling muscles. I would think the kids who are playing now in the spring are more acclimated to the conditions anyway since practice started in Feb when its even colder. Unless of course the coaches are always going indoors for their workouts. Dont forget all the college teams start games Feb 15th. so if your kid wants to play at the next level, he will need to get used to it now.'Unless of course he is going to Florida or the likes(unlikely)

How wet was the field or did they play on the football field?

I have had the pleasure of seeing Coach Tompkins on the baseball field several times. He always had his teams very well prepared, this is a well deserved honor. Congrats Coach Tompkins

Just curious why the redistricting has hurt the football team so badly but other sports, baseball, basketball to name a few have been able to compete pretty well

Of course the problem is ALWAYS the coach...never the kids with whom the coach has to work with! As the daughter of a high school coach and now a wife of a high school coach I am tired of hearing it's always the coaches fault! Too many helicopter parents!!!

It's pretty sad that the third largest school system in the state can't find the resources to put lights on any fields becides football/soccer fields. Not many baseball or softball fields in Jefferson or Fayette county public schools are without lights. Let alone the sister county's of Campbell or Kenton. The kids deserve better

There is a min number of games you have to play in order to qualify for District Tournament play. It is either 9 or 10 games.

I am very surprised that no one had mentioned anything about the Holmes Head coach. Especially with the irony of the timing of this game. The Cov Cath faith full knows that Wednesday following the game he will be inducted into The Cov Cath Athletic Hall of Fame.

I read a bunch of things in an old thread Ryle/NCC game awhile back. Lots of talk about Cooper being on the upswing and Ryle having players but no coaching. Surprised there isn't much discussion going on after this score from the other night.

Spot on Just Jim, not sure how many guys on here have dealt with a tarp but its not an easy task. That's why most summer teams don't use them often. Surely not for a pickup game of old timers.

Simple question, who decides on positions for players? Parents/Kids/Coaches. If its not the Coach then they are not the coach! There is no out of position.

I agree with Oldercoach, could someone please find a rule in the NFHS book or the KHSAA bylaws that sites the player restriction rule. I have never heard of it, or read it, and have read both. Until I can read it and see that i am wrong I think it is a crime that umpires are allowed to create their own rules, for the situation. Regardless, they are only suppose to follow the rules in the book. The Dixie boy probably shouldn't have been tossed, I have no idea wasn't there, but don't make up rules to cover your butt.

I am sure reading the article there will be all kinds of thoughts on this. Its really about the kid and his limitations. If Lawrence was laboring, wincing on every pitch, or something like that Coach Roberts would have known to get him out. He knows he was a pitcher. Obviously none of that was happening. One of you old timers on this site help me with the story of Newport Catholic in the early 60's. The pitcher went, I think, two games on consecutive days to win the state championship. He went on to the eventually the Majors I believe.

I've never heard of a player being restricted, only a coach. So I guess they are forced to take him out of the lineup and stay in the dugout as all players are required to do anyway?

How nice would it be for the third largest school system in the state, Boone County Schools, do some facilities upgrades to put lights on the baseball and softball fields. The average fan could come out an watch this huge pitching duel without taking off work. The NKY sister counties have a better vision for athletics.
