Rain outs

With all the rain this year, Has the KHSAA ever considered moving the baseball and softball season?? Just throwing it out there.

( I am new to the site so I apologize if this has already been a topic.)>

Where are you going to move it to?? Personally, I do think the season starts too early....the first week of April is a better start date. I also think too many games are played. Regardless, because school starts so early in August, and because most school districts are done by the end of May, the season would really be condensed if you did decide to start later. Flipping baseball to fall doesn't help, because I think numbers would be seriously hurt competing with both football and soccer for athletes. Plus, you'd be playing your playoffs in cold weather and part of the season with short days and less daylight...not everyone has lights.

Do away with football, move baseball to Aug-Oct, stretch basketball from early November through graduation. Seems good to me.

Rainouts are expected. That's why most schools will schedule more than the allowed amount of games in the regular season (36). Looking at some of the bigger NKY schools' websites, the average regular season schedule seems to have about 40 games, with some as high as 48.

Which schools show 40 or more?

CovCath, Highlands, Conner, Simon Kenton, Campbell County. Could be more, didn't check them all.

Split the season. Play mostly non-district/conference games in the fall. Maybe 15-20 games August thru end of Sept. Then start back up after April 1 with district matchups and other regional games up thru the end of May. Another 15-20 games. Then proceed with postseason as you normally would.

Again, you'll be forcing more multi sport athletes to choose, and I would bet football/soccer would win out. You'd also effectively be making baseball a year round sport and increasing wear and tear on athletes. I love baseball but this would be very bad for the sport.

You just have to take the good with the bad. Years that is, most have a small sample size with their child playing 4-5 years. The old timers have seen it all

Brossart has flipped home dates with Lexington Catholic and will travel to Lexington on Friday (April 7th) for a 6pm game with the Knights on the LexCath turf field.

Turf fields can/do solve a lot of weather issues. Hopefully we will see more and more of these in the area. Would help baseball programs in a big way.
