Coach Schmidt released a text to the Seniors and other baseball players at St Henry saying that he is leaving St Henry for Turpin. Can't say I blame him, given the lack of support from the St H administration. The principal of St H has not been to ONE game in over 5 years!! That itself is shameful!!St H Administration promised to help fix the aging field but little money was given to the program. I truly feel for the incoming Seniors.

It's a shame the coaching carousel at St.Henry. Terrel,Mullins,Peddicord,Collins,Schmidt. This will be their 6th head coach in 5 years.

With that said, I have seen Mr.Otte (principal) at several games over the years. Not a lot, but some.

And, I've been told that most of the funding for the program has to be raised by the team. Coach Schmidt, being a first time head coach, did a poor job with the major fund raiser, the kid glove game. Poor communication and after the season (at the freshman level), before the tickets were distributed. I'm sure he will do better in his next gig.

Good luck to the next coach. I wonder if Ernie Brady is interested as he does a heck of a job (and he should be there at least 3 years as his boy is an incoming sophomore).

For years the softball team parents have requested to do ALL the work to improve the softball field, including paying for and installing a new fence at 200 feet, and were told NO!!!

 

If doesn't have something to do with girls soccer, volleyball, cross country, or track you can forget about it.

Just Jim; don't know where you are sitting at the games but I've personally been to countless games for many years and have NEVER seen Mr. Otte, much less that so called AD , which is another sad story. Regarding your comments about the fund raising: I'm surprised you haven't noticed the brand new 50K soccer and track and field press box, oh and the soccer teams practice field, but little to no money has been spent on the baseball and or softball programs for approx. 4-6 years, perhaps even longer. I had heard that they were supposed to spend 30K on the field before the season started last year. Like to know where that money went. LOL!! As you probably know, Walt spent his own money in many cases on the field as he personally took pride in the field.

 

Regarding your comments about Coach Schmidt. He did a great job given what he walked into. It was a very fragmented program at best that has no support from the Administration. Communication problems? Perhaps, but understand he was a first year HS coach and was learning the program and insights of being a HS coach.

 

The baseball and softball programs will ALWAYS take a back seat to the all other sports programs at St. Henry unless things change at St. Henry.

6th coach in 5 years is sad. St. Henry needs a young energetic coach who plans on staying there for years to come. You have to feel bad for the players who have to endure another coaching change. Interested to see everyones thoughts on who could replace Coach Schmidt.

St. Henry has never been and never will be a "baseball school". If you want the field to look like it did then I suggest you take after the coaches and kids that built the field into one of the best in te region. Even before Walts money, Bieger was there and he is who built that field into what it was. Let's just say I doubt he had the money that Walt did. So, if you want the field to go back to what it was then get your butts out on the field and work on it because I can guarantee you, your not going to get any help from the administration.

Kywonder...nothing I said was not true. I've seen Mr.Otte at a few games over the years. Not many,but some. I have not seen the AD. The major fundraiser for the team is the kid glove game and it was handled poor. The school does need to put some money into the field to keep it one of the nicest in NKY. Bieger did a ton of work on the field when he was there. I have seen the soccer field/practice field and press box and have no problem with it. I'm sure we are on the same page that we want an excellent field in the future and hoping they make a great hire.

There is never anybody stopping you from using a good old fashioned rake and edger. Pull some some weeds, level things out, take care of your dirt and grass, clean things up, etc etc.. You'd be surprised how far that will go. As far as moving a fence and things of that nature, while it may be wanted, it certainly has no bearing on having a good looking field.

I've listened to Otte speak on a few occasions - while he's undoubtedly a good man and genuinely interested in the schools academic environment, he completely lacks charisma and to outsiders he gives off a sense that he just "tolerates" sports in general but seems genuinely disinterested in any sports except the ones listed above. As a result, the rest of the administration reflects their leaders attitude.

Here is an idea. Do an expansion project at St. Henry. As soon as it is finished, the Bishop will get rid of Otte.

None of you (except Just Jim) have a clue as to what you are talking about. If your kid actually goes to St Henry and you want to know what is going on, go to a meeting and find out. I am sick and tired of the "they only care about" argument because it is ridiculous.

6 coaches in 5 seasons just seems really wrong.... I have no idea as to what the reason is.... But, clearly something needs to change. That's just really unfortunate and unfair to the players.
