It sounds like kywonder has an issue with the administration at St. Henry. The administration isnt the reason the coach left. Or the coach before him or the coach before him. Or the coach before him.

Agree to an extent but the administration did have something to do with Bieger, Terrell, and Mullins leaving. The administration is also responsible for the Collins hire. Anybody that knew Collins track record knew he wasn't in it for the long haul. Only until something better came around. And the administration is also responsible for finding a coach who is committed to the program. So in a way, it does fall on the administration.

But these guys arent leaving because the principal and ad arent coming to their games and banquets....

You have a problem, address it with someone at St. Henry. It is not my job to answer your questions and address your problems in an online message board. Some of you want to gripe and complain but don't want to step up and do anything about it. The booster meeting dates are on the website, I am sure they would be glad to answer your questions if you have the guts to talk to someone face to face.

 

And, KYWonder, I have had kids there for 8 years. playing just about every sport for both sexes. I don't know why you are so hung up on the Principal being at games. Now I will admit that I am not his greatest fan but his attendance at games has nothing to do with anything. You have a problem with the administration at St. Henry, we all get that. If it is so horrible why do your kids go there? If you speak for the Seniors and the in coming kids get out from behind your computer and talk to someone at St Henry about it, don't bash people and other programs anonymously.

 

I know that all sports at the school are treated equally. No one gets more than anyone else. There are plans in place to do maintenance on all of the athletic fields because they all need it. That is the truth. If one gets done they all get done.

 

The revolving door of coaches seems to only be happening on the baseball side. I don't see that as a problem with the administration....

As an outsider looking in, it is difficult to overlook the revolving door of coaches. Some of it may be due to personal issues, timing, or matters wholly unrelated to the program itself. But 6 coaches in 5 years certainly seems to indicate a bigger problem to me.

Well that's completely different from what you said before. You said nothing about banquets or games. No doubt they're aren't leaving because of that. When I played there Otte, Gish, Grau, and Harden came to games.

To get this thread out of the weeds and into something more productive, I have a question:

 

Would you prefer to have a program that makes the regional tournament each year and has continual coach turnover, year after year

or

Would you prefer to have a program that struggles each year but has stability and structure, year after year.

 

If you are truly looking at the needs of the student athletes, then I would vote for stability of the coaching staff.

Is that what St Henry is looking for? Seems as though the last 2-3 hires have not been thinking about the overall goals of student-athletics.

Someone's sensitive. And why no names? This is a thread about St. Henry with no doubt people from St. Henry in it. If they don't know their principal, assistant principal, and athletic directors then they're a little of base with bashing the administration. And I only brought them up to prove a point that they did attend games when I attended St. Henry. Nothing wrong about that

I would imagine Sanders, Gray, Sawyers, Bieger, Dixie and Scott's freshman coaches and Hill from NCC will apply.

I would say that St.Henry has had some fine coaches in the recent past and in their district they should make the regional tournament the majority of the years (which they have).

When you look at some of the other local catholic schools and the stability they have (and success) it is disheartening to St.Henry. Cov.Cath and NCC both have excellent programs and both have coaches that have a vested interest in the school being teachers at their schools. It would be nice if their was a teacher at the school that was qualified and had a passion for the game that could take over. I guess I would prefer stability and success and passion and someone that loves the school and what it stands for.

None of you (except Just Jim) have a clue as to what you are talking about. If your kid actually goes to St Henry and you want to know what is going on, go to a meeting and find out. I am sick and tired of the "they only care about" argument because it is ridiculous.

All four were athletes, and all four went on to participate in sports at the next level. I had a leadership role in the school boosters group for a few years. You might think by that comment that I would say that St Henry athletics was a positive experience. Not so. I think my kids were successful DESPITE the sports program administration. I found them unprofessional, arbitrary and generally an obstacle to progress. Especially as it relates to baseball.

The AD does not show any visible support for baseball, and bows to parental pressure, undermining coaches at every turn. For that reason, I would never recommend a friend to take the head baseball job there. I sure wouldn't want to work for a boss who consistently undermines me.

So, I'm pretty sure I have a clue as to what has happened at St Henry, at least since 1998. And I pretty much totally agree with kywonder. It's a mess. And it belongs primarily to the AD and the assistant principal.

For that reason, I would never recommend a friend to take the head baseball job there. I sure wouldn't want to work for a boss who consistently undermines me.

That's why I'd personally be shocked if Coach Sanders or Coach Gray would be the least bit interested. Unless one of them has some personal history with the school that I'm not aware of.

Who is the AD? And with all the recent turmoil over the last decade at Covcath, then Ncc, then recently Brossart, are we sure the administration problem doesn't start in the diocesan office?
