PutMeInCoach
Brock was a better high school player than Neltner, he has to be in the top 8.
MJAlltheWay24
Brock was a better high school player than Neltner, he has to be in the top 8. I completely agree, but that could be a whole new arguement. I would like to throw a name in the mix that no one has mentioned yet. I believe he deserves to be mentioned if some of these other players are... Mike Kannady - Simon Kenton (03') Might also throw in... Ben Brown - Boone County (Graduated 01 maybe)
NKYBOY1487
\ Mike Kannady - Simon Kenton (03') Might also throw in... Ben Brown - Boone County (Graduated 01 maybe) Totally agree on both of these guys. I played a lot of ball with them both and both are great people and still friends of mine. Didn't want to say them because Im kinda biased, but they both were very very good players.
NKYBOY1487
Mike Brock was one of my favorite players to watch play. If I coach a big man or ever have a kid who is a big man. I would want him to play exactly like Mike Brock. He was a beast. But with that said, kinda hard to put Brock on 1st team over Neltner after Neltner was Mr. Basketball in the state of KY. Walter
By far the most talent the 9th ever had was in the 2003 season. Highlands, Dixie, and SK were all preseason top 20 that year and the team who made it out of region, St. Henry ended up being one of the best teams in the state. St Henry, Highlands, Dixie, and SK were all loaded that year...not to mention teams like Holmes, Covcath, and Ryle were pretty solid too, despite their record. Those teams produced the following players: St Henry- Vieth (sp?), Otte, Schmidt, Fabiani Highlands- Neltner, Gilles, Guidugli Dixie- Jones, Bramlage, Mays, Corbitt, O'Toole Brothers SK- Brock, Kannady, Reed, Stowers Boone- Rasso, Laboiteaux, D. McFarland, Fox Holmes- Englemon, Fisher, B. Smith Covcath- Nesteide, Kennedy, B. Votel, R. Votel Ryle- Doellman, Rechtin Not all of those guys are top players, but top to bottom that is some pretty solid competition.
SportsGuy41017
Well, seems like a good number of players have been mentioned. All of the ones who needed to be mentioned were, but there are a number that wouldn't even make an honorable metion team. I agree VOR, would like to see a list of where most of these players ended up playing college ball.
Walter
Off the top of my head: Brock- Eastern Kentucky Neltner- LSU then Vanderbilt Doellman- Xavier B. Votel- Penn Hill- Southeastern Illinois JC, then Illinois St (D1) Rice- Columbus State CC Henderson- Cincinnati St Nestheide- Union College (?) Union or Centre Hester- Union College Kannady- Mount St. Joe then NKU Jones- football at UC Krebs- walk on at UK Dawn- Marshall (?) Rasso- NKU D. McFarland- NKU Stowers- swimming at Georgia Sorrell- NKU Englemon- football at Michigan Jefferson- full ride to UK for football (never played due to off the field issues) Nic Simpson- North Carolina A&T Greg McGraw- Translyvania Penick- Pikeville (?) S. McFarland- Georgetown Others not mentioned: Scotty Bibbins- NKU Brian Romes- Mount St. Joe Kurt Bovard- Thomas More If you know where anyone else attended college for athletics feel free to add to the above list. malachicrunch
Walter, I'm kind of confused about Stowers. Jordan played bball at NKU. His brother Evan was an All American diver at Georgia Tech.
MJAlltheWay24
Kannady didnt' play at NKU, only the Mount. Both of the Bramlages played at Union. I will throw out another name that hasn't been metioned. Probably wouldn't be on honorable mention or anything, but at least deserves mention in this thread... Voice of Reason
I think the list and names are getting very watered down. This thread is about the team of the decade, right? I see names being mentioned that are nice high school players but not worthy of being considered for the region's team of the decade.

Clyde
For some reason I thought Pennick was Wright State. Nestheide was Centre. I think Pennick originally committed to WSU but ended up going to Morehead. Not sure how long he played there.
NKYBOY1487
Charles Kinney - Lloyd Thanks MJ, I was trying to think of his name for day or so. I knew he had played against my brother. He was probably the best of the Lloyd players in this decade.

Nothing much has changed from the original team I put together. With the exception of probably adding Austin Hill. Before I created a team, I wanted a good list of players to pick from. Also didn't want to leave someone else out that I had forgot about. Stay tuned!! Fun to remember some of these great players and great teams. Pennick originally commited to WSU then they had a coaching change and he changed his mind. Headed to Morehead. After a short stint there he head to Union I believe with Mike Hester and Herd from SK. (I believe) Now he's playing with Kane Belcher from Pendleton Co at Pikeville College.
