Matt Otte-St Henry

Stephen Love-Villa

More to come.....

Was Otte hurt in Sweet 16 against Mason County?

Great list. Lets add Bryant McCarter and Corey and Justin Pelle from The Grove. Also Jeremy Wight from Bellevue. Also Jackson Capel from Heritage could be on the honorable mention list with these guys.

SG isn't in the 9th region.

St Henry:

Matt Otte

Todd Vieth

Brandon Lenhof

No way Otte or Lenhof are on the list. Todd Vieth deserves an honorable mention.

It was a shame that Simpson and McGraw both had health problems their Jr and Sr seasons. Both were great kids.

Th HHS candidates look like this in my opinion.

1-Neltner

2-McGraw

3-Vories

4-Simpson

I'd put Neltner #1 & Kevin Gilles #2. Without Gilles, that HHS team would've struggled. A 6'6'' shooter creates a lot of matchup problems.

I think Pennick originally committed to WSU but ended up going to Morehead. Not sure how long he played there.

Penick ended up at Pikeville College.

Thanks MJ, I was trying to think of his name for day or so. I knew he had played against my brother. He was probably the best of the Lloyd players in this decade.

Myron Hopkins or his brother (can't think of his name) are better than Charles Kinney. Charles was athletic, but his teams were horrible. Hopkins had a pretty good career at Lloyd. But, to be honest, none of the above would be on my list.

It's probably debatable as to whether or not he could make honorable mention, but the 7 footer from Dixie in '03 (name=??? 'May' ??? perhaps Steven???) that played with Russ Bramlege, played a large part in Dixie's success their senior year. Does anyone remember his name or if he played in college anywhere?

Steven Mays. He went to some Christian school in Ohio, I think.

Big man Mike Schmidt was the one who hurt his knee. Otte had a few huge games at Bellarmine and turned into a solid player for them. His father was the principal at SHDHS.

ColonelCrazy's 9th Region Team:

PG - Matt Nestheide (CCH '04)

SG - Ronny Dawn (NCC '01)

SF - Justin Doellman (Ryle '03)

PF - Ross Neltner (Highlands '03)

C - Mike Brock (SK '03)

That team would be very, very tough.

2nd team:

PG - Matt Fabiani (St. Henry; '03)

SG - Corey Sorrell (HC; Not sure the year he graduated)

SF - Kevin Gilles (HHS '03)

PF - Nick Faegan (Ryle '02)

C - Joe Bramlage (Dixie '01?)

Honorable Mention:

Zimmerman (NCC '04)

Jordan Stowers (SK '00?)

Brian Lewin (CCH '02)

Russ Bramlage (Dixie '03)

Jackson Capel (Heritage '05)

Brennan Votel (CCH '05)

Lots of pretty good players, but I think my 2 teams would be very tough to beat.

I know I may be a bit biased, but I saw Brock, Doellman and Neltner play head to head many times and I can't think of a single game I came away thinking either of the two were better than Mike Brock.

If you saw the 2002 District tournament win by Ryle, you saw JD drop over 20+ on Brock to pull the upset. Brock had 8pts, 12 below average, while being guarded mainly by Rechtin. I think JD had more versatile game than Brock and Neltner-- but Brock was a beast! Neltner won Mr. Basketball that year, but JD won 9th Region Player of year that was awarded at Sweet 16. JD is still playing in France for a team in the highest league over there.

Great to look back on a lot of very talented players. I think Ron Dawn was one of the toughest guards to play in the decade. Great shooter, but made his teammates better as well. Fabiani was great pt guard for St. Henry. He sure knew how to lead a team. Feagan was 1000+ scorer at Ryle, had nice career at Transy, but was overshadowed by Doellman.

I don't think Speed should be on this list. I don't think he is near the level of these players. Love the Ross Hart post though, great player.

Yeah speed might be a little questionable. But I guess there was a tad bit of home cookin going on from me. Loved to watch him play. Very good shooter and led his team to a 33rd and 34th District title in both his years as a starter.

You really think there were 16 players better than Hill,Rice and Henderson from Holmes?

I was thinking the same thing.

Rice, Hill, and Henderson all three had better all around games than Sorrell.

Henderson, I think, was the only player to hold Sorrell to single digits his senior year too.

I don't think Speed was a top 10 player in the region last year. Still a good player though.
