  1. 1. I'm not sure if there are rules for number on sideline. It definitely is attempted to be monitored by staff of Ryle. Many years ago, it got way out of hand and was far worse than last nights game. 2. Music might have played too long in some cases, (music is not supposed to be played during action of game) but that noise should not impact players on field any worse than the 4,000 people in attendance. At least it isn't like the World Cup games with the noise makers! 3. I would say about 6 appeared to be wearing them. Administrators from Ryle had to try and keep those kids from going in front of the Ryle crowd to avoid unnessary heckling or conflict.
  2. In regard to fake punt. It looked like SK tried to draw Ryle offsides and couldn't, called timeout and set up fake attempt. If they could have put in punter at beginning and not have to call a timeout, it might have worked, you give a good coaching staff time to go over possibilities and it makes it more difficult to be successful. But it almost worked anyway! Pretty creative attempt in my opinion.
  3. Great game last night. Perfect night for football and the Raiders win. Two picks in the end zone were the difference. Can't turn the ball over when you have driven down the field. Made for big momentum changers as it came at the end of the half and beginning of second, both chances to tie the game. Lawrence is amazing at making plays out of nothing and Elliott is a BEAST. Good Luck Raider next week.
  4. I think the birds win this one, just like the others... taking advantage of Ryle mistakes or unnecessary gambles by the coaching staff. Ryle's defense has been hit hard by injuries and if Ryle's offense does not control the ball, it could get ugly. Best case scenario... Ryle's offense possesses the ball for majority of game and they have no turnovers... but lose 21-17.
  5. Tates Creek in 90-91 (year they were state runner-up). Great teams and players in the tournament year after year.
  6. Jones was amazing for Ballard. I heard he was going to Bellarmine. Seems like a D-1 school would be looking at him with his athleticism and shooting touch.
  7. Things definitely went the Raiders way tonight. Not sure what to expect with them this season. They seem to beat some teams you wouldn't expect and lose to teams they aren't supposed to. With that said, they are surely capable of having big post season, but they will need to get McLeish and Coleman to be good floor leaders and unite their team or it will be a quick exit in my opinion.

  9. i don't think you can make that claim anymore. That was true 10 years ago, but anymore they let you beat the heck out of each other. i would like to see them call it a little more closely because it takes away the abilities of the players if you can bump and push guys around when playing defense.

  11. Excellent post because of the accuracy of your statements. It is very unfortunate what parents can do to a game. I have a elementary aged son who plays some sports and the main thing I say to him after games is did you have fun? Unfortunately, I have observed other kids at 8 years old looking to the sidelines with that defeatest shrug because their mom/dad is yelling at them constantly to do something. I cringe every time.
  12. If you saw the 2002 District tournament win by Ryle, you saw JD drop over 20+ on Brock to pull the upset. Brock had 8pts, 12 below average, while being guarded mainly by Rechtin. I think JD had more versatile game than Brock and Neltner-- but Brock was a beast! Neltner won Mr. Basketball that year, but JD won 9th Region Player of year that was awarded at Sweet 16. JD is still playing in France for a team in the highest league over there. Great to look back on a lot of very talented players. I think Ron Dawn was one of the toughest guards to play in the decade. Great shooter, but made his teammates better as well. Fabiani was great pt guard for St. Henry. He sure knew how to lead a team. Feagan was 1000+ scorer at Ryle, had nice career at Transy, but was overshadowed by Doellman.
  13. I don't agree with taking playing time away from kid because of his parent's poor behavior. Unfortunately, a coach rarely hears the comments unless it is directed at him/her so it seems difficult to have coach address the situation unless the player comes to him about it. I agree that as parents of other players on the team, it may be our responsibility to address the unruly parent, but you almost never see this happen. So inevitably, this parent continues the behavior and it becomes a true distraction. This situation stinks because the parent who is negative will generally rub off on the son/daughter and make it more difficult for the coaches to create a true team atmosphere.
  14. Great pictures. Game was very physical. Ryle had their chances but turnovers hurt them. Cov. Cath could have caused less stress on themselves, but missed several FT late in the game to keep game close.
  15. Tate is not playing this year. Focusing on getting better for football. Ryle in a nailbiter on their home floor. 59-58
  16. Anyone know if the Murray who ran for 9 yards was Vince Murray from Ryle. He is a junior and I wasn't sure if he was getting any PT this year.
  17. This is an interesting matchup because Ryle has the size to rebound with Holmes athletic players. Ryle's guards are not as quick as Holmes, so it will depend on Ahern and McLeish handling the speed of Holmes and not turning the ball over. Ryle was with them in the first game but gave up two big three's early in the fourth that gave Holmes some breathing room. Ryle is not good if they are down late in a game as their offense is mediocre. First round of the Regional Tournament can provide for some interesting games and upsets. It would not surprise me to see an upset here, but it is unlikely to occur. Holmes pulls away late to win by 8+.
  18. Very good win for Ryle. NCC is tough team to beat at home. I heard they were down 7 at one point in the second half.
  19. Game was supposed to be Tuesday, but snow canceled it. The girls were already scheduled for Thursday night. The coaches agreed to do double header and cancel the JV games. Boys naturally will take the 6pm slot since it was the girls originally scheduled game. Title IX is part of it, but common sense dictates this as well.
  20. I had the same thoughts as cooperstown when I watched the game. Ryle played 10 players in the first quarter. Ordinarily I think it is great to be playing a lot of players, but usually you are starting to narrow your rotation down this time of year. But I think there may be some benefits to the number of players, they gain experience and the team is a little more rested, as due to the snow days, they are playing three games in three days. They have Boone tonight, which will be an important district game. So I wonder if there will be the same type of rotation tonight? I still like Ahern as a good point guard. In the first quarter he beat the press by quickly dribbling pass the traps and then making some nice passes to big guys for lay-ups. Highlands adjusted the press a little and he was contained more. I hope Ryle can get a quality win tonight against Boone. The first seed playing either Cooper or Heritage would be a lot better than having to play Conner to get into the Regional. By beating Boone, it would give them a better chance at the #1 seed. If they lose, they have no chance as Boone would be #1.
  21. I left before the game was completed, but Boone won by double digits but it was tightly contested throughout. Ryle had 4 point edge at halftime which should have been more if they could sink free throws. They took it to Boone early in the game as Boone had 8 fouls in the first quarter, Ryle could not capitalize on this by missing too many free throws. Boone pressed in the third and fourth quarter forcing a quicker pace and turnovers on Ryle's part. McFarland had a good second half and Gabbard is an impressive shooter. It was a typical district battle with Boone making less mistakes and executing better in the final quarter. Stauffer played a solid game, Russell played well in his return, McLeish is good at getting to basket and pull up jumper. Coleman had an off night. I thought Nichols was better than Earls in his limited time- should get more time as year goes on. Ryle is fairly deep and has good size, but lack consistent outside shooting and overall quickness. Teams that press could give them problems. Ryle's overall guard play will determine their future success as they have some good big guys that are pretty versatile and interchangeable. They really have only 1 pure point guard in Ahern and then Mcleish can handle the ball as well. My prediction was pretty accurate, McFarland was the difference in 3rd and 4th quarter. Ryle had too many turnovers and due to their inability to make F.T. they lost the Free throw battle as well. Therefore a loss this time. Both teams will be better at the end of the year. Ryle has tough week ahead with Oldham tomorrow and Clark cty on Friday. But it will definitely give them areas to improve on. Sponsored Links
  22. I was working on details as you posted this score. Someone may want to combine the thread.
  23. Good game to start the season. A district battle that will be a part of the seeding this year. I understand the district has gone to playing each district team twice to determine seeding rather than the traditional one game. That makes this game a very important one for the first game of the year. I think Boone has edge playing on their home court. It should be a good battle between the two teams. The matchups look pretty good between the two teams, I think the x-factor for Boone is who for Ryle can defend McFarland? I look for a good but sloppy game as the emotions will be high and it is the first game of the year for both teams. If Ryle can limit turnovers and get to the free throw line more often than Boone, they might pull the upset. Any thoughts from others???
  24. Another option would be for the regional tournament host to provide a special pass to all the schools in their region to give to the basketball coaching staffs. For example each 9th region school would receive 5 passes for the regional tournament. This would allow the head coach and his staff for every school (not just those participating in the tournament) to attend the game free of charge. A very small consolation for all of the hours they put into coaching high school basketball (for very little pay). This would eliminate the problem of so many people having coaches cards getting in and allow the coaches to see the culmination of the season before heading down to the state tournament.
