Birds outscore the Colonels 14-4 in the final qtr to run away with it. Hot shooting by the Birds was the key in this game.

 

Nice game by Jake Thelen for Cov Cath, he may have had a double double.

 

Birds had over 15 turnovers and still won by 16.

Birds outrebounded the Colonels 40-34.

 

Birds shot 52% for the game.

 

Kowolonek led with 17, Smith Keller had 14 and Watson had 12 pts.

Better game than the score indicates. Good game through 3 and then the wheels fell off for CCH. The game really ended in about the first 3 possessions of the 4th qtr. 3 missed bunnies for the Colonels with HHS scoring each time and I think one was a 3. Ball game.

 

I like the HHS team. Long, strong, good PG, good defense, solid outside shooters.

 

Am I correct that until the subs came out in mop up time that HHS played all seniors?

Jack Stewart is the only JR that got minutes I believe. He normally starts for the Birds or was when Grubbs was out.

That's 1 more than I can remember. CCH will have to get some scoring from their guards if they are going to beat teams like HHS.

Fun watching Jake and Grubbs battle. I didn't realize how tall Grubbs was. He was eye to eye with Jake so I'm guessing 6'5. Good effort by both of them.

The missed bunniesand rebound margin were key, however the other one was Highlands 3 pt shooting in my opinion. Seemed like almost every time they needed one to stop the Cov Cath mo, they hit one. Congrats to the birds on this one. Like Clyde said, game was a much better close game till I think it was about 5 or 6 mins remained.

 

One thing I did like seeing from the Colonels was when they tried to double Thelen, he passed to Wellbrock for some easy shots - was just bad that they were not always made.

Great game to watch. Great atmoshpere, etc, etc. CovCath has some very nice athletes and certainly played with alot of spirit and heart but they seemed to lack a true leader on the floor. I dont know, maybe I am missing something here but jmo. 20n10

This is not a strong shooting team. The best shooter is the junior Riedinger. Fredrick , Murphy, Bir, and Ward on the freshman team look to be good shooters.
