I agree this is the worst the guards have looked all year. I can not recall if it was the end of the second or third period where the ball looked like ahot potatoe for the last 10 seconds. None of them wanted it.

While I'll agree the guards didn't play great last night, however, this version of the Colonels is not guard oriented. I think the key was the number of missed shots from 5 ft and in. I bet they missed at least 6 or 7 of those in the 3rd and early in the 4th. The vast majority of the missed shots were from the big guys.

 

I don't have the stats, but I am guessing the shooting percentage wasn't very good for CovCath. Some of that can be attributed to Highlands D, but not all.

 

Unfortunately I think the team was thinking about "not Losing",instead of how to win. I know that sounds kind of trite but I really believe that was the biggest difference between the 2 teams. CovCath hoped to win, Highlands expected to win.

Game indeed was closer than the score and it was a battle either way until the fourth when CovCath just didn't come out playing tough and HHS did.

Game changed in the 4th due to Birds depth. Also Birds outrebounded the Colonels. Grubbs had 8pts. and 8 rebounds; Watson 12/8.

CovCath was 1 for 9 the 4th quarter from the field, but Highlands actually cracked the door open for the Colonels as they went 4 for 12 from the field, 1 for 3 from three and 3 for 7 from the line.

No production from the 1,2 or 3 spots is what did them in along with the mental mistakes when they did get close. Wilson and Reidinger need to get more touches as they are the only 2 with confidence in their shots right now.

BTW I was surprised with the attitudes that Coach L puts up with during the game. Is this a common occurance, as I have only been to 3 games.

I know you have the FT percentages, but how many free throws, attempted and made did each team have? Covington Catholic was in the bonus in the first quarter.

BTW I know its chic to knock 9th region officials as calling it too tightly. The 3 tonight really let the boys play and it made for a strong game. CCH got a few breaks on potential Ts as well. The boys need to learn to close their yaps.

 

i don't think you can make that claim anymore. That was true 10 years ago, but anymore they let you beat the heck out of each other. i would like to see them call it a little more closely because it takes away the abilities of the players if you can bump and push guys around when playing defense.
