  1. We've heard they are waiting for Leatherneck to show them the secret handshake.
  2. Who's not coachable? I was at the Highlands game and thought Carr was way out of line. Come on, he let someone slip behind him on the press. It was not like he did not hustle or something. Plus it was senior night. Wow, if that is how you treat a three yr starter during his last home game.............
  3. The Dixie/St. Henry district is indeed weak....any chance redistricting will take place in the near future? By adding Conner and Highlands into the regional mix thisyear there would have been much better first round match ups, esp. if the region was seeded. Unfortunate three of the top four teams in the region were all on the Holmes side of the bracket.
  4. Congrats to Casey on his MVP award and to Jordan Ponzer, the Enquirer stated he scored his 1000th point.
  5. Not to my knowledge. I was making a comment that the torch has been passed to the younger generation. Thought Coach Flynn told the team last night this was his best group of seniors in 20+ years of coaching.
  6. My son tells me stories from 30 years ago don't count....but I understand your point. What I would encourage is for you and all Bird fans to go all in with Coach Flynn. I firmly believe he is the right man for the job. It was evident he was working hard in the soph and frosh classes to keep the football players interested in basketball. So I hope we see Towles, Bruns and others on the hardwood next winter! Look for good senior leadership from Stewart and Crowley next year. Dean and Egan can step up too.
  7. When did the Birds beat a team similar to the one Holmes has currently in terms of talent (2008 state runner-up, 2009 state champ).
  8. I guess having Holmes in the region has made things tough the last two years. How's that for an excuse? Most us basketball parents can't understand why we don't get six playoff divisions like football. Hate to be blunt.
  9. I would be interested in what Malachi is implying as well. For the kids who were on varsity the last three years Highlands won 56 games against a difficult schedule void of some of easy Ws. We expected to make a run this year and the schedule reflected that fact. I know personally all the kids on the HHS team and can tell you they are an excellent group of young men who gave extra effort at every opportunity. Coach Flynn did an excellent job, as well. As for the game last night - congrats to NCC. Grant Pangallo, I hope you make All State, because that is the way you play against us every time. You are a first class young man and we wish you well. NCC's bench played well, too, which ended up being huge. Geisler was held in check for most the game, which was a plus for Highlands. The back breaker came with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd w/ Kowolonek and Watson on the bench for quick blows and the lead went back up to 10 at the end of the qt. 4th qt. was a scramble with HHS forced to foul and Breds hitting all their FTs. My hope is one of the Newport schools is the 9th region champ. Good luck.
  10. Last year's junior starters of Kowolonek, Grote, Watson, Grubbs and Lother started 0 games together as seniors.
  11. My guess is Lother, Kowolonek and Watson are looking forward to getting back on the floor together.
  12. Tough game for the Birds to lose as they were in control until a series of turnovers (it seemed like 4 or 5 trips in a row) to start the 4th qt. did them in - combine that with poor free throw shooting (1-7 in the 4th and overtime) and a nice road win turned into a dissappointment.
  13. Just want to say, as one of the 14 Highlands fans in attendance, how proud I am of our kids. Seniors Gordon, Dill and Smith Keller really stepped up, as did Jr Stewart (another strong game in the post) as did Jr. Connor Crowley, who had a break out game in his first varsity start. Crowley and Smith Keller both hit huge threes in the last minute of the game. Steal by Dill also in the last minute and all round good play by Gordon sealed the win. Also hats off the East Carter fans on their hospitality. Nice venue to watch a game.
  14. Nice win for the Birds on the road. Jack Stewart led Highlands with 14, Corey Dill and Garrett Smith Keller had 8. Colt Barnhill led all scorers w/ 23.
  15. Nice game Stephen Gordon and Patrick Towles!! Congrats to Stephen Kowolonek on scoring his 1,000th point last night!
  16. Since there have been a few posts about the boys schedule, their schedule for the next week is as follows: F, 2/12, Lloyd (Home): It is senior night, girls play at 6, boys at approx. 745. SA, 2/13, @ East Carter T, 2/16, @ Scott High F, 2/19, Bullitt East (Home). End of regular season unless Simon Kenton and/or Holy Cross can be made up before district play.
  17. The latest on Ben Watson is Xrays were negative. The doctor has ordered a couple days of physical therapy so he will not practice today or play tomorrow against Holy Cross. Should be back by Friday for Senior Night against Lloyd. Injury occurred early in the 4th when Ben pumped faked Avery off his feet and got fouled/chopped on his right arm and shoulder.
  18. I expect the Birds to play hard tonight. Should be a good game to watch from a fan's perspective.
  19. Ben Watson was out sick. FT shooting was terrible....8/20 for the game. Cory Dill had 11, Zach Lother 10.
  20. Murphy's Law continues for the Birds as Ben Watson is out of tonight's game w/ the flu. As an add on to the comments about the schedule, weather/now has hampered things this year, leading to last minute changes. Seven Hills was just added last week.
  21. From the Highlands side of things I thought this was a very good road win, esp. considering Kowolonek had an off night scoring, Watson played only half the game due to fouls, and Grubbs and Grote out due to injury. Stewart was very strong inside (I will say again he is very underrated) plus Smith-Keller and Dill really stepped for Birds. Lother solid game.
  22. Highlands missed five free throws in the 4th qt. and at least seven in the second half. Highlands hits their FT the margin of victory would have been larger.
  23. Completely agree, of the players I've seen this year Jacob Reiger is in the top 5. Absolute gamer who lays it all on the line every game. Brossart is having a better season than what many thought in large part though Jake's play and leadership.
  24. Jack Stewart from Highlands should also be on the northern Ky. junior watch list. He has played very well for the Birds this year in the post and had good games in the Birds wins against NCC and Cov Cath. Jack leads the team in blocks, is second in rebounding, third in points scored.
