I just reviewed the District brackets for 9th Region teams and here is my take on who will advance.

 

Boone Co has the easiest path to the tournament in the 33rd District as they wait to play the winner of Cooper/Heritage. I would expect them to play Cooper. The game of the week will be on the other side when Conner/Ryle battle. This is a tossup game for me but I like the Cougars to pull it out and take Boone Co to the wire only to lose in the finals.

 

33rd District

Winner- Boone Co

Runner up- Conner

 

 

Dixie Heights will have the best chance of advancing in their District waiting to play the winner of Ludlow/Lloyd. I expect them to be in the finals playing St. Henry who will have a tough game vs. Villa Madonna. I like Dixie as the District Winner.

 

34th District

Winner- Dixie

Runner up- St. Henry

 

 

In the 35th District Tourney the easiest path to the finals IMO is Holmes taking down Class A Beechwood. Cov Cath will have their hands full with a scrappy Holy Cross team but their size will get them to the finals. Holmes and CovCath will be a great finals to watch IMO. Holmes should prevail and get the Title by just having more athleticism.

 

35th District

Winner- Holmes

Runner up-Cov Cath

 

Newport has a cakewalk to the finals in the 36th District, they are playing very well right now. Dayton will battle NCC to the end but probably lose by 10-12 which will create the NCC/Highlands battle. If Highlands has all of their players I think they pull this one out on a neutral court but it will be a battle. Having to face the homecourt Wildcats in the finals will be a daunting task. I like the Birds to get focused and healthy for the Districts and get that revenge on the Wildcats for the drubbing they gave them early in the season.

 

36th District

Winner- Highlands

Runner up- Newport

 

The 8 teams advancing.

Winners-Boone Co, Dixie Heights, Holmes and Highlands.

Runners up- Conner, St. Henry, CovCath and Newport.

 

To me there are no easy teams to play in this tournament if it gets this type of a lineup.

 

Matchups I would like to see out of this would be the following.

Boone Co vs. Newport

Highlands vs CovCath

Dixie Heights vs Conner

Holmes vs. St. Henry

I agree with almost everything you put in the post. The only game I differ with is the NCC/Highlands game. I think with Grubbs out NCC pulls out the victory in a close one. However, I agree it will be a battle. I'll just go with NCC.

Excellent post. :thumb: I concur with your observation that Holy Cross is going to be a tough out for Cov. Cath. It is a shame that either New Cath or Highlands will miss the BOK Arena. I enjoyed watching Pangallo, Kowolonek, et. al., running the college size floor last year. It should be a great tournament.

Who in the 9th region has played up to their potential or over-achieved?

Some teams have been a little more successful because of their soft schedule. Some teams lost a lot due to injuries or graduation.

 

Holmes is the favorite I can't image Pittman laying down and letting the Holmes base down.

The only thing that might stop the Bulldogs are untimely injuries/illnesses to one or more of the big three... or foul trouble especially Ricardo.

 

I'm pulling for Highlands to pull the shocker if we can get a ticket to that dance. The pressure is on Dayton/NewCath to knock-out the Birds and Newport to win their first district championship in years. Highlands will be a huge, huge underdog to come out of the 36th...

The most interesting match-ups to me are Conner/Ryle and possible NCC/HHS. "Too close to call" type match-ups that may be better than some of the finals.

 

I've stated before that Conner has a great team "make-up" that it wouldn't suprise me if they actually win their District. Obviously Ryle is just as dangerous, adding in Boone makes the 33rd very interesting.

 

Equally interesting could be the 36th where HHS is the intrigue. If they are healthy at all (consider that in the OT loss to Scott last nite, they started Gordon, Crowley, Dill, Smith-Keller, & Stewart: none of which were projected as starters at seasons beginning) At this point they have to be healthy and play well or its likely NCC/Newport III for the finals.

 

Still like Holmes to make it to Rupp but Regionals will be a battle this year !

Aren't Grote and Grubbs both out for the season for the Birds? I seem to rememeber someone saying Grote was out for the season due to his back and Grubbs was already out with the Foot injury.

That's what I hope happens...but you're hearing it now. Holmes and Boone will meet in the region semi's.
