Yes Walter Grote and Grubbs are shelved. Kowolonek has bad knees,Watson hurt his shoulder vs Holmes and isn't 100% and Lother has a nagging wrist injury. This was their projected starting 5 at the beginning of the season.

Thought so. If that group was healthy, I wouldn've picked them as district champs.

 

Not only would I have picked them as district champs, but also would have predicted them to meet Holmes in the finals. (Assuming they were on opposite sides of the bracket)

Yes, its a darn shame those boys who have all played together since Middle School cant finish out their careers on the hardwood together. Dont count out the Birds though in Districts. Stewart is a formidable big man at 6'6 and has hops.

NCC is playing as hot as anyone. But I'd love to see them not even make the region.

The 33rd is wide open. According to a Boone player, both Popp and Schultze have quit the team in the last week. That leaves them with some depth problems at guard, where there have not been quality minutes played by anyone outside of Gabbard and Montgomery. They will get by Cooper but could struggle against Connor or Ryle. Also heard a rumor that McCliesh has turftoe, which could mightily hinder Ryle's chances if true.

I know Schulze turned his uniform in last week, and Popp did not show up at practice yesterday. Why do you think Popp quit over playing time issues? He was playing a lot the last couple of games again after slowly coming back from being out a few games from sickness. I know he was struggling to regain his playing form coming off the bench after his return and had good moments and bad in those games. Its no secret that he and his coach have had interpersonal issues over the last year and a half.

 

Blame/fault does not always lie entirely with the players in situations like this, and I would not rush to condemn the kids. This type of thing has happened before at Boone each of the last few years with seniors quitting during or before the season and players transferring. Plus, they are teenagers. I'm sure they make some mistakes and need to learn and mature. That being said, if players aren't having fun for whatever reason or happy with their situation, than why stay and be miserable? Plenty of people move on to other jobs in the working world or transfer to other teams in college because they aren't happy in a particular situation. I know that Popp and Schulze have been good players and loved basketball for many years and not had problems like this before, so it is sad it has come to this.

If Popp and Schultz are gone then I dont expect Boone Co to win the Region. They may escape from the Ryle game and make it to the Regionals but they will struggle at the guard position in the 9th tourney.

 

Hard to believe the players would quit on their teammates at this point in the season. Its a team sport and the coach does what is best for the team. If the players cant deal with that then maybe they need to be gone.
