Back to Popp and Schultze. They apparently quit over playing time issues.

 

This tactic rarely earns you more playing time.

The 33rd is wide open. According to a Boone player, both Popp and Schultze have quit the team in the last week. .

 

I recall reading many posts on here that there were colleges recruiting Popp. If this is indeed the case, I would think any college coach would look very negatively on a potential player who quits his team right before the tournament for any reason. Would be very surprising to me I guess, to see the young man hurt his chances to play College ball on scholarship by quiting right now.

I mentioned I had heard from a teammate that Popp and Schultze had quit. Sometimes the lockerroom knows before the coaches and even parents. I know these kids love playing basketball. They are both very friendly, respectful, and popular kids off the court. There have been at least a few defections and attempted mutinies at Boone over the last three years, mostly surrounding this 2010 class---playing time and how they, their parents, or AAU coaches perceive Boone's coaching staff. I commend these two, in particular, for hanging in and through these dramas and I wholeheartedly wish they hadn't quit. To say they would regret it is not a threat of any sort. High school basketball is a fleeting but memorable experience. They will at least ponder someday what might have been if they had hung in there for just two more weeks, win or lose.

Unbelievably selfish and disrespectful to their teammates and school. Sadly, something they will regret over time.

 

 

On behalf of these two young men, I believe this is very unfair to them to make that statement. First unless you are their parents or coach or school adminstrator I don't think we really know the whole circumstance on this issue. Secondly everyone is entitled to voice their opinion, but this is a thread on 9th region basketball not Popp and Schultze.3rd we have not had any official word from Boone Co or the Popps that he is no longer playing so until that is verified I think we need to stay on the subject of basketball. And to these young men good luck with your future plans.

It wasn't attempted "mutiny" by 2010 class. It was the 2009 class leading it.

I agree. Or, I would at least have to do a double take and question if I really want to take the 'chance' that he would do the same thing in college, that is to QUIT on his team(mates). That is what it is looking like what happened in this case from the outside.

 

However, like it was also pointed out, we DO NOT know the whole story so we shouldn't pass judgment as to the reasons why he/they are no longer on the team.

I don't think there is any official word one way or the other, so it probably should not be discussed yet.

Better to have them quit now than quit in a game or become a distraction in practice. If this is where their heads are, it is addition by subtraction. Boone has plenty of talent. As Paul Brown said to his team at the start of every season - All of you are important. None of you are necessary.

If Popp and Schultz are gone then I dont expect Boone Co to win the Region. They may escape from the Ryle game and make it to the Regionals but they will struggle at the guard position in the 9th tourney.

 

Hard to believe the players would quit on their teammates at this point in the season. Its a team sport and the coach does what is best for the team. If the players cant deal with that then maybe they need to be gone.

You are right. In fact, I apologize for interrupting this post with heresay about Popp. I hope it was a misunderstanding and hope to see him playing his best tonight versus Cooper and the Rebels challenge for a regional title. The more I've thought about it, it doesn't make sense, especially after the game he played against Holmes.
