StraightShooter Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Sounds like a defensive battle. Congrats to the Raiders. If they can get offense working, they can be pretty good. Camels will be in a must win situation next week vs. Conner.
theguru Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Sloppy game that has to have both teams wondering about their offense.
CCFC Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Dropped balls, untimely penalties, and poor kick-off coverage were the Camels' nemisis tonight....not the Raiders. It didn't help the Camels that the Raiders only had 2 penalties whistled against them all night. How about that Camel defensive goal-line stand in Q4 from the 1 yard line? By the way, outstanding turf. The orange end-zones are very cool! Raider's Nation facility is one of the best around.
StraightShooter Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 The Enquirer said 44 yards rushing and 98 yards passing for Campbell. I would say the Raiders were a big part of the nemesis for Campbell. As to lack of penalties, that would be credit to Ryle, not an excuse for losing. Was it the refs fault that Campbell had a lot more penalties?
cooperstown Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Game was by and large played to a draw were it not for penalties on Campbell. I believe they had 4 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties alone, including two by the same player (ejected from the game) and numerous other penalties. I certainly don't think you can blame unsportsmanlike penalties on the referees. Raiders defense looked very solid. Campbell had very few plays that gained any substantial yardage. #25 for Campbell (Bishop) looks like a heck of a receiver. Something HAS to change about the Raiders offense or they are going to struggle down the road. They seem to be able to break a couple of nice running plays every game - Eubanks and Thibadeaux had several last night - but their passing game is struggling mightily. They rarely complete a pass that travels in the air more than 3-4 yards. The opposing team's safeties are playing up tight to support the run defense because they know Ryle has no downfield passing threat. The O-line seems to be struggling with their pass protection right now, as Hempel is constantly fighting to avoid a sack. Next week's game against Simon Kenton should be very interesting.
GoCamels Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) Roughing the passer? Excessive celebration? Unsportsmanlike conduct? (x4) Give me a break. This was a tight game without the refs interference. Camel offense needs to get their act together! Props to Camel defense for a great job. all are doing there job well. how about 82! where has he been hiding? Good job! Edited September 20, 2008 by Ram Rule 13

I'm sure the refs were just making up those 4 unsportsmanlike calls. "Without the ref's interference"? Please. Maybe instead on pinning the blame on the refs, some of the blame should be directed at the lack of composure/discipline by some of the Camels' players who were responsible for the unsportmanlike penalities.
OLD RAIDER Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 The Guru is correct. Both teams have offensive problems to fix. A Bryson Warner team stoned at the one ? That should never happen. The Raiders knew how to run the ball for the last two years. Did the goal line offense change?
Da-Man Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 If I had left after the first 3 possesions of the game I would have been shocked at the outcome. From that point on it was like a completly different game.

The offensive coordinator changed and I'm not sure there were too many plays he called that I agreed with. A mix between bad play calls and not being able to throw the long ball is going to be Ryle's problem the rest of the year unless something changes. I don't know if Ryle's defense can continue playing 2/3 the game every game. Congrats to them and to Coach Woolfe for winning this one!

Was it the refs fault that Campbell had a lot more penalties? Well over 120 yards in penalties was more defense than the Raiders presented, thus the Ryle Defense didn't necesarily dictate the low number of yards gained. Though the penalties was not the reason for the Camels loss, it can't be said that it was the Ryle "D" either. Edited September 22, 2008 by Ram Rule 13

Not the biggest around which does not lend itself to overpowering run game. Your offense will look bad if you can't open holes or protect the quarterback. Everything begins up front to the unsung heroes of the game--offensive and defensive lineman!

Though the penalties was not the reason for the Camels loss, it can't be said that it was the Ryle "D" either. Penalties, especially the type of after-the-play penalties incurred, have nothing to do with the fact that the Camels only gained 140 yards of TO. Camels only score came on a 10-yard drive after a blocked punt. Ryle's defense was VERY much a factor in the Camels losing, just as the Camel defense was VERY much a factor in the Raiders only scoring one TD from an offensive drive. Both defenses played well.
