UKPat02
Also, let me add that I know SNL is a very very left leaning show. I realize that Republicans are, on the whole, mocked more than Dems. But, setting all that aside, Palin is the easiest to mock.
gametime
If only they were bringing back, say, Maya Rudolph tomorrow night to play Mrs. Obama. Wait, they are? Can't be...
oldrambler
If Joe Biden were a Republican, SNL and the rest of the media would be having a field day with him. "Jobs is a three letter word" and "Stand up, Chuck" are classic gaffes. These examples, both from the past two months, combined with the fact that Biden cheated in law school, graduated in the bottom 25 percent of his class but claimed to have graduated in the top half of the class, exaggerated the number of degrees that he earned, and even plagiarized another man's family tree and you have what should be a virtual gold mine of political satire and ridicule. The only reason SNL has not skewered Biden on a regular basis is the "(D)" beside of his name on the ballot. :thumb::ylsuper: Another nails it! "Botox Biden" is so transperant it is laughable. ( Joan Rivers is jealous of that plastic clown) But......he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
oldrambler
The only problem with that viewpoint is SNL doesn't get into mudslinging. The merely go to a heightened reality of the candidates actual personas. That is what you are calling it and is a very good spin. Reality is that it is just another way to say they are mudslinging. This is NBC (the B. Hussein Obama campaign headquarters) we are talking about.

This is NBC (the B. Hussein Obama campaign headquarters) we are talking about. But here's the thing. It's a sketch/comedy/variety show. It comes on at 11:30pm on Saturday nights. It doesn't profess to be "the news." Does it matter if they sling mud? Does it matter if it's fair? It's a TV show for crying out loud!
Hangman
The SNL ratings are the highest now that they've been in years. They are poking fun at Sarah Palin more than anyone else in the campaign because people tune in to see it. They are playing to their demographic, and it works. It's just smart business. westsider
What would the reaction be if SNL repeatedly had a person making fun of Michelle Obama and putting her down the way they put down Palin? What would be the reaction if porn producers had open casting for Michelle Obama look a likes to produce a new porn called "Michelle O's O Face"? Would there be outrage? Why none for Palin? You're equating SNL with porn?
True blue (and gold)
Palin was the big news...new to the national limelight, young and a woman. SNL wants ratings. Anyone that watched SNL during the Clinton years knows how much fun they made of him. Heck, what about all of the Hillary Clinton skits recently? H
Because the entire premise of a Palin Vice Presidency is preposterous and lends itself very easily to satirical ridicule. Her performances during the Gibson and Couric interviews revealed her to be a pretty face, capable of delivering snarky speech lines, but incapable of answering questions in a way that conveys deep understanding of the underlying issues. Palin is so unsuited for high national office that SNL was able to do their skits using her own words to mock her. What would be the humor angle for a Michelle Obama SNL skit? As to the porn video stuff, I can't say I agree with any of that. I guess that's just the free market at work, right boys?
MountainThunder
Anybody seen this yet? This is a funny skit. Good to see Ferrell back (was on Thursday night). They also have a poll going: Who is the best political impression in 'SNL' history Chevy Chase's Gerald Ford 3% Dana Carvey's George H.W. Bush 13% Phil Hartman's Bill Clinton 12% Will Ferrell's George W. Bush 13% Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton 2% Tina Fey's Sarah Palin 58%

Bush 13% Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton 2% Tina Fey's Sarah Palin 58% I have to say that Ferrell's 'Bush', Hartman's 'Clinton' and Carvey's 'Bush Sr' are my favorites. Poehler shouldn't even be on there as she doesn't do a close impression at all. Chase's was groundbreaking as he didn't try to look or talk like Ford, just act clumsy and it was wildly popular. Hartman also did a pretty good Reagan. Tina Fey just looks so much like Palin that there was no way they weren't going to do that one with her getting so much attention right now. However, the funniest of all of them was probably Dana Carvey's 'Ross Perot'. It was awesome and I literally laughed my tail off at that.

Who could forget: Ferrell's Bush: "Stategory" Hartman's Clinton in that skit where the police were called to the White House on a domestic disturbance call because Hillary had beaten him up. Carvey's Bush: "Wouldn't be prudent, not at this junc-ture" and "Not gonna happen"
