Walter Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Scored again 4 plays later, but still seems a little ridiculous to call that taunting.
Bluto Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Absurd. What I WANT to see called are the hugely excessive celebrations whenever a defensive player records a stop/tackle for loss. Those guys are outrageous, especially compared to this example of "taunting".
gchs_uk9 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Its amazing that thirty years later college football refereeing is still scared to death of Jimmy Johnson's Miami Hurricanes. 1
John Anthony Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Refs love to assert themselves into games, terrible call.

His observer, assignor, and league office will be involved (quietly) in this situation. Person may get a week or two off to reflect on that call. I don't think the player's action was the intent of the rule/point of emphasis.
bulldog77 Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 Did anyone consider what he might have SAID to earn the call? Agreed, if based solely on the visual, it's a horrible, egregious call. But what might he have said? Just a thought. 1
Walter Posted October 26, 2021 Author Posted October 26, 2021 Ref also said something to Josh Whyle Saturday... "Don't be excessive" per his mom when asked about it. Let the kids have fun. Unless they're showing up a defender and in their face after scoring, who cares if they dance or celebrate by themselves or with teammates.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Man, that's worse than a lot of the taunting calls in the NFL that I don't like.

I prefer that over simply watching and then deciding to throw the flag, especially in a game that ended up being decided by one score. I just hate how subjective the rule can be. What is excessive. I may laugh and think something was clever and in good fun while you fume about the same action as being egregious.
TheDeuce Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Celebrating and taunting are different for me. Taunting is done directly to or in front of an opponent, and is pretty obvious IMO. 1

Surely something must have been said, which then would have been directly to a player, thus taunting.
