  1. There are so many factors contributing to this situation there is neither time nor space here to address them all. So many of those factors are out of the control of the folks in Covington, yet there are many that are in their control and must be addressed before my alma mater can get back to the "glory days" that we old timers remember so well. And, it is across the board for the good folks at Holmes, not just basketball related. I wish my Bulldogs well and hope for good things to come.
  2. With all due respect to Guru . . . That's a lot of points coach.
  3. The Tigers move to 2 and 2 on the season.
  4. Congratulations to some deserving young men and to Coach Montgomery on his first Bellevue victory.
  5. Perhaps I missed this in an earlier post, but to me this is purely a training issue with whatever association assigned this crew. The fact that not one of these officials stepped up and said, we interpreted this incorrectly AT THE TIME OF THE PLAY, makes me believe none of them knew the correct call to make. Or, even worse, were afraid to step up and correct their peers. That is a training issue for the association. Somebody has to catch that. "Punishing" the officials is absolutely the wrong look here. If there was no intent to miss the call, and I'm more than certain there was not, why even use the term "punish?" Fix the problem and try to use it as additional training for the entire association. Owning the problem is noble, yes, but affixing blame where it may not be warranted is pretty weak in my opinion.
  6. There are a few more kids joining in recent days and have not been added on the KHSAA roster yet. Chad Montgomery and his staff have been a real positive for the program and are making huge strides forward in teaching the game and developing interest. It wasn't an overnight process to get where they were and it won't be an overnight process to get where they want to go, but this group of young men and their extremely committed coaching staff are showing incredible willingness to get it done.
  7. Sept. 1 Bellevue hosting Riverview East (OH) Sept. 22 Bellevue hosting Gamble Montessori (OH)
  8. 100% on point. I'd add a few more things but you hit the nail on the head. Access is killing interest, not the other way around. Great post.
  9. As I said, there are some exceptions depending on the type of coverage, the association of the schools and whether it is district level coverage or school level coverage. But in most cases, that is exactly why. But, feel free to check. Just trying to help.
  10. In the vast majority of cases a school's athletic liability and healthcare coverages will not cover unenrolled students. There are a few exceptions I know, but that is the reason in most cases.
  11. Heard the entire Simon Kenton Coaching staff was in Ft. Mitchell Graeters buying Bourbon Pecan ice cream cones. (By the way, if you haven't tried it, OUTSTANDING!)
  12. He bought. (That should tell you something right there, huh, huh)
  13. Was told Hal Mumme bought a Chocolate Chip Raspberry cone at Graeters in Ft. Mitchell.
  14. I heard someone saw EE buying a Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cone at Graeters in Ft. Mitchell . . . Just sayin ' gosh.
  15. Fiction. There are absolutely zero rules from KHSAA about job postings or interviews or any other aspects of hiring coaches. Those rules are set by Board policies for each individual school district and typically in most school districts, extra-curricular positions aren't required to comply with the same rules as full-time jobs. Meaning, they can do what they want when they want. Now I don't profess to know the Beechwood District policies on hiring, but there certainly are no KHSAA restrictions. I suspect this will all be done well before Spring Break though.
  16. This will be a dismal, albeit interesting, season. They will be bad by MLB standards but there are some interesting and entertaining potential young stars that will be fun to watch if they can keep their enthusiasm through 100 losses.
  17. Long time Bellevue Girls Basketball Coach Tommy Sorrell reached the 200-win milestone this past Saturday with a win at Augusta. Coach Sorrell is one the really good guys in the sport and also one heck of a good coach. His loyalty to the small school is admirable and much, much appreciated by those in the community. Congratulations coach!
  18. This is a trend that is disturbing at the very least. Kids who think fighting is the answer is nothing new, but coaches who see this as an acceptable form of competitiveness is. That there is not a more widespread level of discipline is directly attributable to coaches and school administration who place winning above the other virtues of sport. Winning, or the chance to win, has replaced the instillment of sportsmanship and class in competition in far, far too many schools. When winning becomes the ONLY measuring stick for success, then this is what you get. And no, I'm hardly a "give everybody a trophy" kind of guy. We just seem to have lost the concept of the values of sport and competition in favor of win at all costs. at least, in my humble opinion.
  19. The enrollment number at the Middle/High School is actually 362. And remember, that is grades 6 through 12. There are only 640 kids in the ENTIRE school District. Now I don't say that as an excuse or as a negative, it's just that there has been so much false and incomplete information (both innocently and by some with other agendas) spread about this situation. Despite the clear problems this decision has caused for many involved parties, it was absolutely the correct decision for the kids at Bellevue. Nobody involved in the decision process, and it WAS a process, was happy with the outcome, but it WAS the correct decision. It will be a tough road back to regain where the program once was, but you can be certain that the people involved with Bellevue athletics are committed to pursuing that goal. The consolidation issue is one for the administrations of those districts to wrangle. Right here, right now, the aim is to re-establish a proud and historically strong program. Whatever and however long it takes.
  20. This game reported incorrectly on KHSAA Scoreboard.
  21. . . . as long as the adults keep everything in perspective. Aren't you the optimistic one! In all seriousness, I agree with you whole heartedly. Let's hope the adults all stay in charge.
  22. Is there more to this story? I would think there has to be some kind of explanation. Just bailing on a contracted game simply isn't done by reputable programs. Mix-up maybe?
