  1. If it appears I alluded to this in this case in particular my apologies. Not what I meant to say as I have zero knowledge of this particular instance. How often it happens in each particular sport however is certainly up for debate. I have seen it first hand in the two sports I mentioned as well as baseball.
  2. And let's say it out loud, it is also done on the dubious advice of SOME AAU/select/travel/club coaches and programs. I say SOME because my experience is that it is a clear minority of those coaches and programs. However, it IS definitely a thing in many sports now, particularly in volleyball and soccer.
  3. Will this one reach the epic numbers of the original hire thread? Got my popcorn!
  4. After reading the exchanges, the Principal appears as an entitled, unprofessional "Daddy-Ball" type bully and has zero business leading an institution of the caliber of Manual High School. The AD needs to grow a spine or find another line of work. Neither of them has any place in high-level athletics.
  5. The two 8th graders they had this year both have the potential to eclipse all of the above mentioned players, and those are some pretty seriously talented young men.
  6. The legal challenges to this will be many and wide-ranging. The finer points of this decision were clearly not considered and the overall effect looks discriminatory. Why athletes and not the brass section? Is there a reason the drama dept. is excluded from this very specifically aimed statute? (Yes, I'm well aware of the intent here) I can't see how this can hold up in any way shape or form.
  7. You are 100% correct. CLASSIFY THE SPORTS KHSAA. ALL THE SPORTS. I find it incredibly naive to think this will not create an even wider disparity in athletics. It already is not an even playing field, this makes it much, much worse. If you want to go elsewhere, then go. But let's be honest enough to give everyone something to play for and not just become cannon fodder. And no, I'm NOT a give everybody a trophy type. Far, far from it.
  8. That is correct. Most top officials are hired by multiple conferences (2 or 3 usually) and are reviewed annually as well as assessed and rated by coaches. With the shortage of officials even at that high level (not nearly as bad as high school, but a consideration none-the-less) it says something when you can't get work where you once did.
  9. Win in multiple ways? Building solid depth? Team chemistry? Solid rotations? Getting better? Can't be true. If it was that would mean they have solid coaching and as some on here KNOW, Coach Cal just rolls out the balls and says play. Oh, and if you haven't been paying attention, their defensive rotations are tremendous of late. Do they miss a couple now and again? Sure. But their defense has been more than solid. But again, they just automatically know that stuff right?
  10. I think you have to look at what he does bring, and there are things. He understands the flow of the offense and doesn't take shots away from the true legitimate scorers on this team. He sets a ton of screens and typically doesn't turn the ball over much (There have been some exceptions, yes). He plays decent defense against a 3, 4 or 5 and on the odd 2 when needed. I think fans believe he gets lost in the offense because he doesn't always look to "get his" so he lacks that scorer's mentality. I believe he fits this team well for those reasons. Replaceable? Absolutely, which is actually another plus in my book. Need a higher energy guy? Plug in Toppin for short spurts. Need another ball handler? Mintz. Need minutes for Ware or Collins? There's your spot. His mid-range jumper has indeed been valuable in games this year and he draws his defender out because he can shoot the three at times. Flash? No. Good for this group? I think so.
  11. Job is now listed on both their website and the KHSAA site.
  12. The last extended strike/lockout was, I think, 1992. I stayed away from the pro game for 13 years in response. And those that know me know how I worship the game. If this extends into Spring Training, I'm done with professional baseball. $20 beers and $75 tickets are bad enough.
  13. No boss, they won't. The problem with your premise is that you apparently assume those "bad kids'" and those "bad parents" will just disappear after they've been expelled, excommunicated, whatever. They still have a right to an education based on federal and state law. You think they're just going to all join the service at age 12? Someone, somewhere STILL has to educate the kids that currently the private schools opt out of educating and, in your scenario, future public schools should opt out of educating. Talk about creating a cast system. No, we need to stop thinking about treating the results and spend more time on treating the causes of the issues. Those will be very, very hard options and choices.
  14. Just throwing this out there to stir the pot. Are the folks defending the rights of the program to bring in whoever they want "according to the rules" the same folks who have been whining about the quarterback in Ft. Mitchell? Again, just asking for a friend. Go Bulldogs.
  15. So picking against a team, even by fans of the OTHER team is now showing disrespect? If that's the case, it's gonna be a long basketball season . . .
  16. And how!!! If the perception of maybe not winning a state championship is the sole criteria for someone not taking a position like this I, for one, don't want that candidate anyway. Give me the competitor that take on that challenge. THAT's the guy I want.
  17. Cinci fans won't support high dollar ticket events. Just not enough people in that financial strata that would support a full NBA home schedule. JMO
  18. Could Cincy handle being an NBA town again? No. Too high dollar. Too many games at that high dollar cost.
  19. Did anyone consider what he might have SAID to earn the call? Agreed, if based solely on the visual, it's a horrible, egregious call. But what might he have said? Just a thought.
  20. If you don't teach young kids to love, or even just like, the game, whatever game you're coaching, then the rest is just fluff. And while you might disagree, "winning" has very little to do with loving the game. In my opinion, it is misguided to believe winning is the only criteria for success as a young player and that factor, in and of itself, is what really causes kids to quit any sport. Do you play to win? Absolutely. Every time, because that teaches the spirit of competition. But if winning becomes the sole reason for participation, then disappointment, frustration and ultimately quitting end up being the result for many, if not most. OR, you develop a culture of elitism that, if not properly guided and managed, creates a negative experience for even more players. You compete to win. But you teach to compete and handle whatever comes with that. Just my opinion.
  21. You can make all the excuses you want to make, say the other guy just needs to "get better," or whatever other cliche garbage you want to throw out there. The fact is this is classless and cheap. I don't care what the "circumstances" are. Act like you've been there before even If you haven't.
