I honestly don't think you're comparing apples to apples here. Quitting on a long-term situation like a job, etc. doesn't equate to quitting mid-stream on a short term situation like a sports season. To me that's just rationalization. And, quite frankly, a way for some to make themselves feel better about what they're doing. Learning to follow-through on a commitment is a life skill sorely lacking in some, if not many, people. The sport or event may seem trivial to some, but the mental aspect of commitment and integrity is always important. If you commit, then you finish. If it's not for you, then you don't do it again after it's over, no hard feelings.

bulldog77 replied to Sheldon's topic in BGP Break Room
Fred Terry was one of the good guys. I was most fortunate in my life to know him and to have been involved with him in even the most remote way. My sincere condolences to his children Fred an Jeanine and to his entire family and to everyone at Covington Turners. -

Question for Old-Timer Reds Fans
bulldog77 replied to MJAlltheWay24's topic in Major League Baseball (MLB)
Concepcion actually suffers from having played with so many incredible teammates. He was and is overshadowed by other HOF's with greater stats and much more "sparkle" to their resumes. The truth however is that he was one of the two or three best at his position in that era. He belongs in the Hall. -

Back to Florence, has anyone . . . ANYONE . . . ever eaten at the Korean Barbecue place? Kiwha I think the sign says. I've never been there, just drive by it often and I've never seen more than two cars in the place. For years!! Asking for a friend.

Right decision. Done the right way. He's 8, of course you ultimately have the responsibility to make that decision but giving him the opportunity to feel as though he helped "make" the decision is a great move. I've been involved in baseball at many levels for more than 50 years as player, coach, administrator, yada, yada, and I think the schedule you were given is too much for an 8 year-old. Learning to love the game doesn't mean living it 24/7 for every kid. Sometimes less is more.

I have had both knees done. Life changing. I waited five years between knees but wish now I hadn't waited. I literally couldn't walk 50 feet before and can do about anything I want to now. The advice about the therapy is on point. It is sometimes painful and a royal pain to allot the time for it, but it is what will make all the difference in the world for you. Also pay heed to the advice of doing the exercises BEFORE the surgery. It will help immensely. It took me about a year before I felt "normal" after each one, but the difference now is miraculous.

US Women's World Cup Embarrassment?
bulldog77 replied to Voice of Reason's topic in Other Professional Sports
I watched the last 6 goals and in no way do I think the celebrations were "over the top." And I AM a Get Off My Lawn Old Man!!! Aren't some of these folks complaining some of the same folks who celebrate bat flips and such? -
School year beginning in Fall of '92 means the first baseball season would have been Spring of '93.

Way to go out on a limb there Ru.
-
Gotcha. Would love to see a sweep too.

Why? Both teams have the same record. The A's ARE a professional baseball team. It's not like the Reds are a power and the A's are totally inept. I guess I don't get the expectation.

Is the defensive shift bad for baseball
bulldog77 replied to CincySportsFan's topic in Major League Baseball (MLB)
Baseball has ALWAYS been about taking what the opposition gives you. Still is. Also about taking away what the opposition does best. Still is. Someone said earlier, Baseball is a cyclical game. Absolutely. This will cycle out when a better strategy or a different approach comes along and becomes successful. Here, here, VoR, a chess match it is and hopefully always will be. That's why it's the greatest game. -
Now that the flames are out, a question. Did you get your hunch . . . back? Asking for a friend.

Of course it's a local search. There are few folks who are going to uproot and move any distance for a stipend-based coaching position. Even fewer who may not be teachers and wouldn't be getting the paid teaching position that might be available. I'm not sure what you think a high school basketball coach in Kentucky makes as a salary, but it isn't much. At least, not enough to make a living.
