That is what I am referencing. Kentucky is doing no such thing and neither is the KHSAA. Again, don't get me wrong, I am all about the All-A and the All AA. Been in them and supporting them for their entirety. But let's not get carried away with equating it to the State Title or even a State classification Title. It's not. Not even all of the teams that are "eligible" to play in these events opt to do so. My objection is in folks dismissing the clear-cut fact that the vast majority of small school teams (and I'm talking all but about 5 or 6) are on the outside of the State Tournament chase looking in. From the Get-Go! The notion that a "cinderella small school from the mountains," or anywhere else in this state quite frankly, pulling off a state title in the one-class system is quaint, but it ain't happenin' here anymore. Single class basketball, or any other sport, with the huge disparity in size, budgets and drawing power of schools and school systems has had it's day. there's a reason virtually EVERY other state has moved away from it. I won't use the "F" word (by that I mean FAIR) because fair is simply someone's judgement or opinion, I will use the word reasonable. Okay, sorry for the rant. Sorry for the hijack. I'll shut up now.

Sure they do. But Sanctioned by who? Look I have absolutely no problem with the concept of being a "Champion." I overwhelmingly applaud the tournament for what it is. But it is NOT a State Sanctioned event as if we were playing in classification. Which, quite frankly, should have been done long ago. (That ought to stir the pot a little.).

Well, while you're doing your research as well, look at the list of KHSAA Sanctioned Championships and find that nowhere on the list is the All A or All AA Tournament shown as a sanctioned event. It's a tournament. No different than the LIT or AIT except that they have a criteria for admission. People can and will call themselves what they like and I have absolutely no problem with it, but at least know what is being referred to here.

No. They're not. As has been pointed out ad infinitum. the All A and now the All AA are NOT state championships and are NOT sponsored by the KHSAA. Sanctioned games, yes, but not a State Sanctioned Championship. It is a tournament that was instigated to give the smaller schools at least something to shoot for whereas the State title is primarily a pipe dream for 95% of small schools.

Love to see the Bulldogs get the win here, obviously, but I think this will be a nail biter.

Simple answer. NO. This is not a game intended to entertain fans. It is designed to educate young players how to play the game. ALL of the game.

Well, quite frankly, if you're above moral victories, then you SHOULD be above taunting and trash talking. Let the goal line stand and hard nosed play speak for itself.

Granted. However I like to see this as a teachable situation. Yes, you'll be dealing with some negativity or some complacency and even lack of effort. But using the situation to teach something other than maybe the sport itself is invaluable in my eyes. Hard to do, maybe, but not impossible by any means. Utopian? Maybe also, but I'm kinda like that I guess.

I honestly don't think you're comparing apples to apples here. Quitting on a long-term situation like a job, etc. doesn't equate to quitting mid-stream on a short term situation like a sports season. To me that's just rationalization. And, quite frankly, a way for some to make themselves feel better about what they're doing. Learning to follow-through on a commitment is a life skill sorely lacking in some, if not many, people. The sport or event may seem trivial to some, but the mental aspect of commitment and integrity is always important. If you commit, then you finish. If it's not for you, then you don't do it again after it's over, no hard feelings.

Of course it's a local search. There are few folks who are going to uproot and move any distance for a stipend-based coaching position. Even fewer who may not be teachers and wouldn't be getting the paid teaching position that might be available. I'm not sure what you think a high school basketball coach in Kentucky makes as a salary, but it isn't much. At least, not enough to make a living.

So, help me out here. Why does high school basketball have to be more "watchable?" NBA, even college, I get it, income, brand, yada, yada. High school is supposed to be about competition, learning, development, etc. right? what does marketability or fan entertainment have to do with anything in high school?

Reading this thread, I'm totally SHOCKED by the number of incompetent, politically motivated and biased coaches there are in the area. :wideyed: That's sarcasm for those of you who don't recognize it.

I actually agree with you. But I think a little backbone and insisting on a return to a more restrictive play-off system is in order. You are also correct in stating that the administrators of the various schools and district are who really calls the shots and indeed do put their own selfish interests ahead of the student athletes and the game itself. Here, here Mr. Guru.

While it wasn't a complete blow-out, there was really never a point in the game that I thought Holmes was "in" it. Poor shooting and repeated defensive breakdowns leading to easy Cooper baskets pretty much defined the night. Holmes is absolutely better than they played last night I'd say, but it just wasn't there this game. Cooper can flat out shoot the ball, or, at least they did last night.
