All teams can be ranked, but only member coaches can vote in the poll

It is a pre-season watch list. Indeed, member "COACHES" nominate their own players to the list as potentially all-state caliber. If a coach has not paid their dues, they cannot nominate their players. It is not a KHSAA organization, it is a Coaches Association. Also, if a member coach does not nominate his player, then they are left off the list. The end of the season All-State team usually looks quite a bit different and in my many years virtually every DI signee is automatically included on the All-State team.

Agree with the bolded part. Simple answer then is . . .Classify the sport and every other sport. Easy fix.

For the large schools there is no doubt that the conference title no longer holds any luster. That is a shame, but also a reality. There was a time when that wasn't so, but it's been many, many years. However, do not throw too much shade because it does indeed matter to the small, truly class A type schools. The fact is that those schools have little chance of advancing even to the Regional tournament level (despite the profoundly inaccurate allegation by some on here concerning the "David vs. Goliath" myth) makes the conference title something worth shooting for and they do indeed consider it worthwhile.

For starters it's NOT always a very good player, those are just the ones that get discussed on here and in the "rumor" mills. Kids move, parents move, parents separate, households break up, jobs change, some kids have needs outside what a particular school system can provide. The reasons are many. Not all families function in the vacuum of sports only. Do inappropriate transfers happen? Absolutely. Are they epidemic in high school sports? Maybe. I think so but others may think not. Does that mean that EVERY transfer is sports related? Hardly. I know personally of two of these type cases and there were legit reasons for both.

Because some kids change schools for reasons other than sports. I know, strange huh?

Just a side note - You just made the exact argument I've made for years about classification for a multitude of other sports, but that is a discussion for another time. :lol2: But I'm certain you know that those situations are playing out at schools all over the state. It's not unique to GC unfortunately. Also, there are no solid, clear answers. To me, Administrative support is more perception than anything, and the coach (whoever that may come to be) will need to help create that perception of support. Also, administrators without athletics backgrounds sometimes don't know what support means or looks like. Don't know that in this case, just throwing that out there. Also, having a coaching staff that is primarily "in the building" can, and often does, make a difference in turning kids out for the program. I feel for you and for the GC fans and I understand where you are and from where you are coming. It won't be easy. I'm just saying lowering the bar in and of itself, really doesn't solve the problem. I wish you all the luck in the world. I have lots of friends at GC and know tons of extremely good people in the GC system.

It's not an either/or answer. There are multiple issues there that scheduling can't fix. Sure, playing some softer games might help a little, but it doesn't answer the questions of motivation and effort, it just makes it easier to be less motivated or give less effort. Single agenda fixes don't work. Been there, got those t-shirts, made those errors myself. Again, its just MHO but I believe challenges are more important to the learning process for student/athletes than wins. Getting hammered is sometimes painful, I get that (I've gotten it often), but to me, its part of upping your game. Again, just an opinion.

Just a thought. I think that the fact that so many of you believe you have to "win some" before you change the culture says more about the problems at Grant than anything else that's been said on here. Lowering the bar doesn't make the process faster or better, just easier. JMHO.

No thread jack intended, but I want to hear you say that when the next discussion of classification in other sports comes up. To the topic at hand, I believe there will always be two or three teams that will relish the challenge and will readily schedule CCH. How many more locals do you need for non-conference when you WANT to bring in the SFD's and Chatards for at least a game or two? Honestly, non-issue in my mind.

Would Dale take a step back like that?

In my opinion, this early in the season you're looking for reps in non-conference, non-district games. Right decision all the way IMHO.

Always? Your are correct. There are no absolutes in a situation such as this. My personal experience tells ME PERSONALLY however that typically, this is the case. So edit my response to say "typically, the truth lies somewhere in between."

In every situation of this type there is one side, there is the other side and then the truth lies somewhere in the middle. That said, if anything in this press release is remotely accurate, then the Principal and those who support him need to prosecuted and terminated to the fullest extent. If it is proven to be false narrative, then the same goes for the coach. The two parties have set themselves up for a "death match" in this one.

THIS!! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!!! I write me own program and can be done with it after a game in about 30 minutes. I have spent hours trying to load and transfer stats from one source to another then to the KHSAA site. Hate it. Call me archaic, I don't care. This is primarily for the fans and not for the coaches. unnecessary.

You're also seeing more and more school districts going away from what many of us knew as "Junior High" schools (7th, 8th and 9th together) and the more recently traditional "Middle School" format where 6th thru 8th are together (often in separate buildings) and the Freshmen are in with the rest of the high school. Simple logistics also means fewer smaller schools can sustain the freshman level without a few younger kids, and thereby depleting the middle school teams, so thusly it makes more sense for the Froshmore scenario. At least, that's how I am seeing it.

While conceptually I will agree with the Next Level thinking, there are a couple of caveats that I have learned over the years. #1 there's always somebody out there that will give parents and/or players unreasonable expectations about a kid's ability to play at the next level. While I truly believe there is a college situation for almost any good to very good high school or select player, there are kids who think they're bound for an SEC school and would have a hard time getting significant innings at a DIII. Usually some well-intentioned yet uninformed coach gets the kid's or parents' expectations up beyond reality. #2 The reality of playing collegiately is that only a tiny fraction of players get "real money" to play at the next level. The vast majority are paying big dollars basically to play at smaller schools. I know this to be especially true in sports like baseball or volleyball. To the point at hand, great coaches should never be measured by wins and losses alone. Particularly distressing is the reality that schools competing in a single class system like ours in most sports have multiple disadvantages that being a great X's and O's coach are NOT going to overcome. Teach the game well, hold kids to high standards, make them love the game, produce kids of character. Those are the hallmarks of great coaches I believe.
