What happened to Boone?

Dixie 39 Boone 34. Boone came back to take the lead briefly in the fourth but wasn't able to hold it. Boone had a terrible first half. They went to full court pressure in the second half and actually outscored Dixie in the second half, but it wasn't enough. Credit goes to Dixie.

Flannery got hurt 2 minutes into the game and never returned. He is Boone's leading scorer and scored 19 against them the last time. Popp still has some rust to shake off, playing at about 85% and in only his first game after 6 weeks off. He's normally good for 10 points, but his timing is still a little off, and although he didn't play bad, he missed the few shots he took.

Dixie's coach was smart and sat in a zone the whole game and took advantage of Boone not having a legitimate big man or its best three-point shooter on the floor. All of Dixie's points came inside. I don't think they made many, if any, outside shots. Their big guy ate Boone up on the block. I thought that if Cotton would have fronted the big man instead of playing behind him, it would have changed things. Boone guards (Popp, Gabbard, and Schultz) also all got into foul trouble, with the fouls called about 2-1 in favor of Dixie. This also affected what Boone could do in the fourth quarter.

Dixie is well coached and is legitmately one of the top 4 freshman teams in the 9th.

Good post. Very accurate description. I thought Dixie had a great game plan. I don't know how many Gabbard had but Raleigh picked him up full court and seemed to take him out of the game. Dixie is legit when they play their game.

The game between Boone and Dixie sucked big time. The coach for Dixie was to scared of some of the boone kids and had to press some of them to keep from getting their butts kicked. It's just a shame you don't let the kids play each other straight up instead of being afraid.

X, welcome.

Free advice: Change your tone or my guess is you'll have a short BGP life.

Boone County = Overrated

Obviously, the Dixie coaches had a great game plan. Congrats to Boone on a great year, good luck to Dixie through the rest of the tournament.

P.S. It's called Coaching when you press, call offenses, etc. Not being afraid of playing someone straight up...

It's called being scared of one or two kids that could of turned the game around. The coach must of been worried about the plays that Cotton and the Gabbard kid was pulling on them to stick a kid so close they seemed like one. It's nice to know that there are kids that are so good that even the coaches on other teams watch for so they don't look BAD when they lose. Watch out for these kids next year, they will be a hard team to beat!

So are you upset because Dixie played defense?

I'm at a loss.

Overrated, no way, but, yes, it was good coaching on Dixie's part given the circumstances and Boone's key injuries. Boone had a a fully healthy Flannery and Popp the first time they played Dixie this year and won easily by 19, and that was without their 6'6" freshman center Earls who has not played any freshman ball this year. Any good team who has injuries to 2 of their top players could struggle against a good team. Boone was 9-0 before they lost Popp to the broken knee and Flannery/Gabbard to JV/varsity games. Since then, they have been 7-7. Without Flannery, Gabbard, and Popp, Boone lost by 32 to Dixie a couple of weeks ago. Nonetheless, if Boone would have pressed the first half, I think they still would have won the game.

I don't mean to be a jerk but you sound like a kid in high school with your poor grammar and tone. Your sour grapes are sounding so childish. Coaches make adjustments to good teams and good players. Yes, they watch for them, it is their job. I can almost get this mental image of you lying on the floor on your back stomping your feet and slamming your fist to the ground crying...Why...Why ... Why !!!! Its a Frosh game, its not the NBA finals....get over it and better luck next year. I predict your lifeline on BGP will be shortlived.
