mcpapa
The 10th Region tournament, to coin a phrase, came in like a lamb and went out like a lion. The quarters were pedestrian and all chalk, the semis were exciting and the final was one for the ages. Quarterfinals Campbell County 55 Clark County 45. Campbell trailed by 5 at the half, but rallied behind their defense and Garren Bertsch's 14 second-half (19 total) points to get the double-digit win. Cole Hegyi chipped in 15 for the Camels, while Will Philpot led the Cardinals with 20, Jordan Graham had 11 and Ryan Cooper 10. Bracken County 52 Harrison County 40. Harrison County was missing their leading scorer (Spencer Free) and went a frigid 15-55 from the field; while Bracken hit a solid 20-40. As expected, Austin Crawford led the scoring parade for the Polar Bears with 21; Keishon Gilkey and Quenton Turley each had 10 for the Breds. Paris 68 Robertson County 42. Coach Kelsch's Black Devils kept things interesting for a half as Paris struggled to get into their rhythm, but broke things open in the third quarter and cruised to the win. Eric Johnson, Jekobi Wells, Jordan Davis and Ryan Davis all reached double figures for the Hounds, while Robertson was led by Mason Burden and Austin Dugan with 12 and 11. Scott 75 Mason County 57. This one was 55-50 at one point, then a couple of key foul calls, an injury and Scott's relentless pace did in the Royals. The Eagles connected on 8-16 from behind the arc and were led by Jake Ohmer (28), Vince Dumlao (a big 17) and Chad Ohmer (12); while the Royals were led by Tyrion Fox with 19, Leevi Dunaway with 15 and Jaylen Lofton with 11. Semifinals. Campbell County 64 Bracken County 59. The Camels bolted out to an early 14-2 lead, but the Bears kept chipping away. It looked like they might be a team of destiny when Crawford hit a 3 at the third-quarter buzzer, but missed opportunities - particularly at the line - were the difference. Bracken's Mr. Everything Austin Crawford poured in 30 in the loss, while Cole Hegyi, Garren Bertsch and Tanner Close reached double figures for the Camels. Joel Day helped keep the Camels in front late hitting a BUNCH of charity tosses. Scott 70 Paris 67. This one lived up to the hype. Paris had the early lead but found themselves behind by as many as 13 fairly late in the game. A couple of threes by Eric Johnson and a couple of Scott turnovers atually got the Hounds up 67-65 with just under a minute to play but couldn't seal the deal. Jake Ohmer with a monster game - 46 and 13 boards, while Paris was led by Johnson's 21 and 19 from Jekobi Wells. Final. Scott 78 Campbell County 77. The shot heard 'round the 10th. Jake Ohmer hits a contested 3 as time expires to send the Scott Eagles to Rupp Arena next week, while the Camels are victim to a buzzer-beater for the second straight 10th region tourney. Ohmer had 30 but got plenty of help as four other Eagles hit double figures. Campbell also had five in double figures; Cole Hegyi leading the way with 20. According to a trusted source, Ohmer's 104 points scored was second all-time in the history of the 10th region tournament. Fantastic finish to what started out as a ho-hum tourney. Final Team Rankings: 1. Scott 2. Campbell County 3. Paris 4. Clark County 5. Mason County 6. Bracken County 7. Pendleton County 8. Bourbon County 9. Bishop Brossart 10. Montgomery County 11. Harrison County 12. Nicholas County 13. Robertson County 14. Augusta 15. St. Patrick 16. Calvary Christian 17. Silver Grove First Team: Jake Ohmer, Scott - player of the year, and the regional tournament merely proved what most of us already thought. 27 points, 8 rebounds, 40% from distance, 85% from the line. Money. Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County - averaged an easy double-double (29 and 12) and made it look effortless most of the time. Austin Crawford, Bracken County - 25 points, 8 boards, and a member of the exclusive 3000-point/1000-rebound club. Cole Hegyi, Campbell County - leading scorer and rebounder - by just a bit - on what was the top team in the region until last night. Jekobi Wells, Paris - versatile swingman led the Hounds to the all-A championship and the regional semis. 6th man - Garren Bertsch, Campbell County Second Team Ryan Cooper, Clark County Leevi Dunaway, Mason County Eric Johnson, Paris Will Philpot, Clark County Titus Ransom, Bourbon County 6th man - Tanner Clos, Campbell County Third Team Ameryn Blackburn, Bourbon County Mason Burden, Robertson County Jaylen Lofton, Mason County Jordan Graham, Clark County Jared Shoemaker, Augusta 6th man - Ben Swolsky, St. Patrick Honorable mention - many worthy candidates. Let's hear them!:thumb: Edited March 8, 2017 by mcpapa

maysvilleky
I like adding the 6th man to each team. I do think Lofton should have gotten strong consideration for 3rd team. And at the end of the year Fox was playing about as well as any big man in the 10th.

And at the end of the year Fox was playing about as well as any big man in the 10th. I had mistakenly put the same guy on the 2nd and the 3rd team, Lofton now gets the nod. Fox was my "first guy out"; well deserving of honorable mention at the very least.

If you're talking to me, I am happily retired. As an aside, I did "semi-apply" to be a proofreader at the Ledger-Independent quite a while back. They still need one in the worst way. Just Jim
I don't follow the 10th region as close as the 9th, but keep up with it a bit. Scott only having 1 player in the top 18 while other teams had 3 or 4 says a lot about Scott playing great as a team (and how good Ohmer is). RoyalWildcat
Yes, because "right" and "write" are two totally different things (but not according to today's edition) In Evan's defense he did have under an hour to write 1000 word article, Maysville is very very lucky to have him. He does a great job.
