there are always battles up on the river among the little class A schools that don't get too much pub but are intense rivalries...

Bellevue/Dayton

Ludlow/Bellevue

Dayton/Ludlow

and I would guess that some will say the battle for the bell over in Newport with Newport vs. NCC, though it seems it has been one sided...

:thumb: I agree on the smaller "A" schools not getting as much mention, The Raceland - Fairview rivalry is as intense as it gets in our area as you have plenty of small school rivalries in the NKY district.

Down in Southcentral KY, BGHS v Franklin-Simpson. In recent years, BGHS has dominated the series, but this rivalry has been known to be VERY intense, and it's one where the home team doesn't necessarily have the advantage (F-S has an all-time record at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field of 8-9!). Another one is BGHS/Warren Central. These kids grew up together and played on the same little league teams with each other. The all-time record is heavily slanted in BGHS's favor, but it doesn't make it any less intense! F-S/Russellville is the longest continuous rivalry here right now, as the series has not been interrupted since they started playing each other in 1944.:D

Question what is the biggest one in Lexington??

Based on history, it would have to be Henry Clay and Lafayette. They are the two oldest schools in the city and annually played the last game of the season, up until recently. Henry Clay, of course, used to be Lexington High School and enrolled all white Fayette countians until Lafayette opened in 1935(?). Bryan Station and Tates Creek didn't open until the late 1960s and Paul Laurence Dunbar didn't open until 1988. Don't confuse the new Dunbar with the old all-black Dunbar from the 1930s-60s.

Yup I believe that Flaget is the only school to have a winning record against X.

Flaget had a substantial bulge over X. X is 27-26 ahead of Male since 1959 (the first year of officially determined state championships) but alltime Male has a large margin over X. Dating from 1959, all other schools locally have losing records against X. Aside from Male, Trinity comes closest to a winning record against St. X. Since 1959 they trail 30-27-2, but actually are further back if you include pre-1959. Many Trinity fans assert gleefully that timing is critical, since they have 16 state titles in football titles to 11 for X since 1959.( As far as overall state sports titles since 1959, X has 3 or 4 times the amount of Trinity). Many X boosters retort with the old real estate mantra: location, location, location, asserting that Trinity often has a cakewalk to the title game, whereas X has to deal with the likes of Male, Manual, PRP and Butler in district play, and Henderson County, Warren Central, Christian County and other forminable foes in the western area of the state.
