Again, thank you all so much. There are days where it is so much harder than others...this one was one of them. You all were his family as well as mine. I love you all so much. Boy, we had been through thick and thin with you all...Your prayers were, and still are, so much appreciated....

Thank you. BGP has always been family to Mike and I. He really did love each and everyone of you as I do. It is still unreal to me that he is gone. When the phone rings it feels like it should be Mike on the other line....When I go somewhere I feel like I should tell him....Thank you all for Mike being excited about belonging to such a wonderful place....Thank you, guru, for dreaming up and bringing to life, such a wonderful place for people to discuss their passion of sports....However, that is not what BGP is all about. You see, it is a place where people become very close...so close that we have become family. No, not all of us have had the opportunity to have talked in person but, that does not matter....we are still close. You all have been here for Mike and I so many times. It all started with a leg amputation. That leg amputation is what made me become a member of this wonderful place. I could not believe that a place like this could have members that are so caring and supportive.... Purple88, that number 57 jersey can not be hung in the locker room....he was laid to rest in it...I thought that was perfect and appropriate article of clothing to have him dressed in....Also, as we would pull up to see BGHS play, Michael would always have Purple Haze by J. Hendrix BLARING on the van's CD....so, as Mike was being led out of the funeral home after the service, Purple Haze was playing...I loved him more than any of you could ever imagine... He was so excited because the BGHS football banquet was on his birthday this year...He did not get to go because he was in ICU. That really bothers me....That was going to be such a special birthday for him....He really fought....I have had 6 of his doctors tell me they have never seen someone who fought like he did...I have also been told by a couple of them that he lived so much longer than they would have ever thought possible, that he was the strongest person they have ever come across. He did love life...loved his family and loved his friends as his family. Thank you all so much again...Thank you for caring, praying, and accepting my dear, beautiful husband as you all did....I can never repay you all for that!

Coach Wallace and I talked...I am going to give it to him and he will keep it in the BG Football office. If someone wants to look at it or make copies, if I understood him correctly, he will be more than happy to let them. Boy, I am still going through all of Michael's things...he really did put a lot of effort into all of this. It is going to take me a while to get it to Coach for the simple reason this was not Mike's only passion....I can't tell you all how many model cars he has...not put together, how many club books, articles, etc for classic cars and trucks...old car brochures, model car literature....just amazing what collections he has. I wish I knew as much as he did about my hobbies...Thank you all so much for suggestions....I miss him so much.

If anyone knows someone who would carry on the historical view of Bowling Green High School Football, let me know. I have a ton of research that Michael "Bulldog" Drake worked so hard on for so many years....I don't want it all to go to waste. He was very dedicated and could answer any question anyone had. He did not even have to look the answers up, just remembered all of that information....He knew a lot about other schools as well from his research. I don't want the info going to someone who just thinks they want to do this....I want someone dedicated....thank you so much.....you can reach me at 270-202-4211 thanks....

It wouldn't surprise me to see Highlands, Pulaski Co, BGHS, Owensboro, and CovCath (in no particular order) be in the top five or six on a consistent basis for a while! :thumb:

Hey Pride! As a grad of Alma Mater, you remember Vito Tisdale, right? Well, Vito Jr will be a freshman next season, and he's supposed to be a bowling ball rolling downhill! In fact, they might not be a factor in the coming season, but the next two classes are supposed to be on a par of the three that won consecutive championships. It's going to get real interesting in 5A very soon, especially with Owensboro moving up too! :thumb:

You might not want to use my name in that manner when you find out that I'm an Air Force veteran with a lot of brothers and sisters who are at Ft Knox. It is for this reason why John Hardin fans are among my very favorite fans. We definitely respect each other when the final whistle blows! I loaded weapons on A-10s, and the soldiers treat us like rock stars...they're great!! Kudos to the 'Dogs for catching fire when they have! I never would have expected it with their start, but they have done a marvelous job of getting this far. Actually the west bracket final would not be the same without BGHS and JHardin playing in it! The old WKC series started in 1927. The Purples still trail in the series 28-33-4 all time. They're chipping away slowly, but doesn't look like there will be any games between the two old rivals for the next four years as Hoptown drops to Class 4A for the next four years. This was the first time either team scored 50 points in one half. It was also one point short of the record for points scored in one game (BGHS won 51-0 in 1950). Why do the threads on BGHS Purples always have to be thread jacked? For years certain teams in the past used to do this.....Blackman is now doing it! I guess that is what you get when you are good.....However, I am getting this tread back on track by saying great job Purples! To all of the McCallie fans, staff, and team: Way to go...GREAT statement! After our great game last week, you go out and show your mettle against mighty Ensworth. I'm very proud of all of you! We were sad to see our streak go by the wayside, but you all came through just in time when it counted. I am sure that the rest of Purple Nation feels the same way I do. I can't wait until they find out! May we both go on to claim state championships this season! The Purples roar back from their first loss since the 2010 playoffs and enter the district race this year successfully with a 63-0 whitewash of the Barren County Trojans. Junior RB Jamele Carothers is the only player to score more than once on a TD tonight (one rushing, one receiving). Three different passers threw at least one TD pass (QBs Campbell Gott and Clark Payne, and RB Jacob Yates). Senior TE Dane Drobocky, junior DB Tre Boards, and junior RB Danzell White score their first TDs of the season! BGHS perfect on all PATs tonight. BGHS is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in district play. Next week, the Purples host district rival Logan County at the Hallowed Ground Thursday before Fall Break. Sic 'em, Purple!!!:thumb:

Junior RB Danzell White runs in from four yards out and the PAT is good to ice the cake. Purples 62-0! Stick a fork in this one...it's done!:thumb: The previous PAT was good and made it 56-0. The actual final is 63-0.

Purples deferred to second half and ran the ball back 80 yards for score by junior DB Tre Boards! PAT is no good, and the Purples lead 55-0 with 20 seconds gone in the second half!

According to the Glasgow FM radio station's numbers, BGHS rolled up 323 yards total offense in the first half with 16 first downs. Sophomore RB Jamale Carothers is the only Purple with more than one TD so far (two, one run and one reception). Senior TE Dane Drobocky scored his first TD of the season on a reception. How do you know it was Kevin Wallace? It could have been the athletic director or the principal or the superintendent.....as for the rest, you can't argue with fact....so, I will leave it at that!!!! I hope your boys do well.

Mat, I believe you stated that Kevin Wallace bought out the contract with Blackman....I think you also stated that Bowling Green High bought out the Blackman contract....I just looked under our newspaper archives and here are some quotes..... "no public school funds were used to negate the contract. " Coach, nor the school paid out the contract....you are wrong..... “It was a great football game, but it was unfortunately controlled by a bunch of officials I guess decided they wanted it to be more about the state of Kentucky, I guess, than it was about high school football and high school athletes.”.... This was from your coach....What a laugh!!! We are not used to punches and kicks being thrown!!! Simply put, this is football, not a boxing match!!!! He added that the Blaze had been called for four total unsportsmanlike conduct/personal foul penalties this season before Friday’s game, and that it could have been a great game if the officials had “been removed last night and just been normal human beings and let the kids play.” Actually, from what I saw, Blackman should have been called for much more personal fouls than this....I was sitting on the track around the ten yard line...one of your players reached into the face mask of one of our players and gave him a good punch....our player came out with a bloody nose and this was not called....it happened right in front of me! “We’re blessed to have a great school – lot of great coaches at our school in many sports and a lot of great kids at our school, so all the comments about how classless Blackman is and all those things that those idiots in Bowling Green said (Friday) night is a joke,” Shadowens said. “Anybody that knows us knows we’re competitive as heck. If you do have a lot of great kids at that school it is not because of the role models of the coaching team.. Your boys were mouthing and cussing at our players....your boys were trying to throw punches at our players.....I, for one, think it is a blessing that our young men do not have to play with your team anymore....further, I would hope that if this happens in any other games in the future, the contract would be bought out again......THIS IS A GAME FOR YOUNG MEN. THEY DO NOT GET PAID, NOT DOING IT FOR FAME....THEY ARE DOING IT ONLY FOR THE LOVE OF FOOTBALL AND TO BUILD MEMORIES...GOOD MEMORIES....I am not guilty of thread jacking and that is one thing that I do hate.....so, sorry for my part in this! “It did affect the game,” Wallace said after the win. “I’m just glad our guys kept their composure. Tell you what, Mat, I got that information straight out of the Bowling Green Daily News. It was either in late July or early August, I can't remember which. But you can find out what you want on your time. I'm not going to research it or make it easy for you. Not my job. I am a handicapped veteran, and BGHS Football is one of my true joys. You want the info? You find it! In my day (1974-76), I was a 5-7, 160 lb center. I wasn't intimidated by anybody then, and I'm less intimidated now because I did my part for the Air Force AND I'm a 31 year cancer survivor. I also don't have legs because they have been amputated above the knees. I also have a colostomy, a catheter, and severe radiation damage from too much radiation in my therapy to get rid of my cancer. I don't have time for people like you, and I won't put up with you. Life is hard enough, and my time won't be wasted. You don't have that right.:walk:

You are mistaken. My friend, the one that you, in a bush league maneuver, called a "donkey", did not cancel the game, nor did he buy out the contract. You must be blind if you think that our reputation is diminished with all of the positive posts on here, and not just from our fans. He had a beef with the officials as well, but he didn't air them out in the newspaper. And our school is one of the top high schools in the United States, public or private, and has been for several years. 17 year old kids aren't the only ones who make mistakes. You're making your share just on this one post.
