Everyone knows, whether you like it or not, this is the week of one of the greatest high school football rivalries in the country St. X vs. Trinity.

 

What are other great rivalries that are worthy of mention in Kentucky? I personally use to enjoy the old Bishop David and Desales rivalry, the Moore and Southern rivalry, and the Male and Manual rivalry which has picked up steam again in recent years. What is your current favorite rivalry or one you feel needs mentioning?

Johnson Central vs. Paintsville In the annual apple bowl.

Danville vs. Boyle Co.

Highlands vs. Covington Catholic

Mayfield - P Tilghman

Belfry Pirates vs. Pikeville Panthers

I used to say Ashland vs Boyd Co.

 

But it has shifted for me anyway to Ashland vs Russell 3 OTS. Great game!

Scott Co. Vs. Henry Clay might turn into quite a good one if all the games are like this years

Southern/Fairdale used to be a nasty rivalry.

 

Both head coaches had been assistants together at Southern, one got the head coaching job when it opened the otehr thought he should have. He then got the HC job at Fairdale and it was a fairly bitter rivalry.

It didn't last long but Trinity/Male from 2000 to 2002 was a dog fight (no pun intended). It was like Ali/Frazier I, II and III.

Mayfield and Tilghman is a very good rivalry that has stood the test of time

The Flaget-St. X rivalry was the precursor to the St. X-Trinity rivalry. For a few years in the 60's it was the show in Louisville.
